<quinox>
I believe the path of lts.conf is automatically determined by the booting client
04:45
from my own documentation: (default LTSP behaviour, some script inside the image: location of pxelinux minus pxelinux.0 plus lts.conf)
04:47
for me it's /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/amd64/lts.conf
04:47
my clients get /ltsp/amd64/pxelinux as boot location
04:49
<alkisg>
Sleaker: the client fetches lts.conf from the server using tftp, and puts it in the /etc/lts.conf path on the client
04:49
On the server, you configure where your tftp dir is from /etc/default/tftpd-hpa, or /etc/dnsmasq.d/ltsp-server-dnsmasq.conf, depending on which of those two you use
04:50
You can enable syslog messages for both of those tools, to see which server path you use for tftp
04:50
Common settings are /var/lib/tftpboot or /srv/tftp
04:50
Now, if ltsp-update-kernels sees both paths there, it doesn't know which of the two you're using, so it updates both, sometimes confusing people

This page has a command to pull files via tftp; you can easily do a small test and discover the correct path

<Sleaker>
alkisg: sure, it's just not well documented how the client searches for the lts.conf
17:20
<alkisg>
Sleaker: documentation gladly accepted, if you want to offer :)
17:23
<Sleaker>
haha
17:23
I'd need to know what it was actually doing first :P
17:23
got my client past where it was trying to connect to the ldm-server that I forgot to install cause ldm-server wasn't on older versions
17:23
<alkisg>
Now that you know, can you document it? :)
17:24
<Sleaker>
but I don't know!
17:24
<alkisg>
I once offered in the mailing list, 'one tip for one page of documentation'
17:24
<Sleaker>
lol
17:24
<alkisg>
only one said "good idea" :)
17:24
So just accept, "no documentation for ltsp" :D
17:25
<Sleaker>
yah. I have some internal readme's but they're outdated
17:25
and they don't cover the changes in the ltsp setup since I last built.
17:26
<vagrantc>
there are countless random posts on the internet by people with variously advisable information
17:26
if we could get them to propose patches, we could accept the good bits, and toss out the not-so-good bits in a cohesive document...
17:27
<Sleaker>
getting a monitor/videocard does not support ddc1 transfers atm
17:28
time to go digging into what I need to change for that.
17:32
ahh that's just dumping cause we call a get-edid in the screen session startup and the screen isn't starting up properly
17:32
heh

also hi vagrantc. - you've helped us update this stuff in the past iirc.
17:41
<vagrantc>
certainly possible :)
17:42

hehe contract stuff couple years ago

<Sleaker>
ah cool thanks
20:42
<alkisg>
Programming though, not playing :D
20:42
<Sleaker>
haha
20:43
yah I'm doing all of this on stretch, so we'll see how far it gets. goign to work on getting the amd64 xserv stuff working
20:43
atm it's just booting and not properly launching the xserv client
20:43
trying to update from an older trusty installation
20:43
<alkisg>
From trusty to stretch?
20:44
>:o
20:46
<Sleaker>
yah
20:46
dumping ubuntu
20:46
lol
20:46
<alkisg>
Sure, but... so different packages and dependencies... why not a clean install
20:46
<Sleaker>
oh no. I use 'upgrade' loosely
20:46
it's a full new install
20:46
<alkisg>
Phiew
20:46
<Sleaker>
hahahaha
20:46
<alkisg>
OK, I feel better now
20:47
<Sleaker>
update in the sense that we had ltsp5-images built on trusty but using xenial
20:47
and I'm trying to get everything working using all stretch
20:47
<alkisg>
OK, that's a lot more sensible, shouldn't be hard
20:47
<Sleaker>
probably just convert it all to buster in a couple months too
20:47
yah.
20:47
vagrant helped us do it all a couple years ago.
20:48
mostly cause I was gone on vacation that week.
20:48
<alkisg>
Vagrant helped with trusty? The traitor...
20:48
<Sleaker>
hahahaha
20:49

it's at the bottom of the raspberryPi page that you linked
20:50
<alkisg>
Yeah all those pages are pretty much to be deprecated
20:51
<Sleaker>
mhmm
20:51
<alkisg>
I currently only maintain the !install page; and from september I'll only be maintaining a couple of pages at github
20:51
I do maintain extensive documentation in greek, but noone wants to spend some time and mirror it in english
20:52
<Sleaker>
lol
20:52
<alkisg>
Whoops someone added notes about http_proxy there. Oh well.
