Hello again, quick question. LTSP instructions says to set internal NIC to static IP to act as DHCP server. Is that the NIC which is connected to the internet, or the one connected to switches?

<alkisg>
The one facing the ltsp clients, to the switches
12:11
Note that usually a single-NIC setup is easier
12:12
But if you do need a dual-NIC setup, sure, just set 192.168.67.1 to the ltsp-clients-facing NIC from network-manager
12:15
<Johnn>
Ok thank you.

<Monkberry>
alkisg are you there?
15:52* alkisg waves to Monkberry
15:53
<Monkberry>
I could use your help again, I have another LTSP client with the same sound issue and I forgot how you fixed it. Something with linger and systemd affecting pulse I believe.
15:54
<alkisg>
Hmm, I thought we fixed that one in a centralized way... let's see, can you vnc to me?

x11vnc -connect alkisg.ltsp.org
15:54
x11vnc -connect alkisg.ltsp.org
15:54
<Monkberry11>
ok, 1 second. I got bumped out of here for some reason
15:55
<alkisg>
Which one has the issue?
15:56
Or do you mean this is a different ltsp server?
15:56
(and all clients are affected)
15:56
<Monkberry11>
it's a different ltsp server altogether
15:56
I believe I see you logged in
15:56
<alkisg>
Ah so we can't see how we fixed it :D
15:56
Yes I'm in
15:56
<Monkberry11>
I could get you on the one that we did fix if you'd like that instead
15:57
<alkisg>
Let me check the matrix history for our last chat, I think I'll remember once I read it
15:57
<Monkberry11>
ok
15:58
it was something to do with linger, systemd and others showing using pulseaudio that had not logged in
15:58Monkberry has left IRC (Monkberry!~Monkberry@static-108-34-16-131.bflony.fios.verizon.net, Ping timeout: 260 seconds)
15:59
<Monkberry11>
I'm still here btw
15:59
I see you typing. If I could show you something it might help to expedite things
16:00
<alkisg>
POST_INIT_RM_LINGER="rm -f /var/lib/systemd/linger/*"
16:00
<Monkberry11>
does that happen when the image is built?
16:01
I put the sudo password in for you
16:01
<alkisg>
That happens when the clients boot
16:01
So lingering is enabled inside the image, but it gets deleted when the clients boot, so it's OK
16:01
<Monkberry11>
hmmm
16:01
<alkisg>
We could use an IMAGE_EXCLUDES instead, to avoid putting these files in the image, but they're small so no harm done
16:02
<Monkberry11>
lemme show you what I saw when the client compalined he had no sound
16:03
<alkisg>
watching
16:03
<Monkberry11>
ok
16:04
now it only shows the one user when before it showed me too and I was not logged in to that
16:05
<alkisg>
you have a broken socat version, updating it...
16:06
<Monkberry11>
I saw that
16:06
<alkisg>
So that empty "peter" file means it'll run processes from peter, like pulseaudio, even before login
16:06
<Monkberry11>
you added a repo and installed it
16:06
hmmmm
16:06
<alkisg>
Yes, the greek schools ppa, it's always good to have that one in ltsp installations
16:06
<Monkberry11>
ah
16:06
<alkisg>
And the new ltsp.conf now prevents the lingering of processes, avoiding the pulseaudio issues
16:06
<Monkberry11>
is that a conflct?
16:07
ah ok
16:07
<alkisg>
So I think we're finished, things should be OK after client reboot
16:07
No conflicts at all, everything should be fine now
16:07
<Monkberry11>
perfect
16:07
Thank you!
16:07
<alkisg>
Cheers! :)
16:07
<Monkberry11>
so it was that one line in ltsp.conf?
16:07
<alkisg>
Yes
16:08
<Monkberry11>
POST_INIT_RM_LINGER="rm -f /var/lib/systemd/linger/*"
16:08
and then running ltsp initrd afterwards?
16:08
<alkisg>
Exactly
16:08
Actually
16:08
<Monkberry11>
ok perfect
16:08
<alkisg>
Let's file an ltsp bug about it
16:09
<Monkberry11>
I've probably got others affected like this so yes
16:09
<alkisg>
So that we add that to the default ltsp image excludes
16:09
So that it doesn't affect others that somehow bump into that issue
16:09
<Monkberry11>
I don't know how to file a bug report
16:09
<alkisg>
We're not using mint here, but I imagine some of the people that do, would be affected
16:10
<Monkberry11>
is it a mint only thing?
16:10
<alkisg>
No worries I'll do it
16:10
I believe so, yes
16:10
<Monkberry11>
ok great, thank you !
16:10
<alkisg>
If you want to file it, you may do so at https://github.com/ltsp/ltsp/issues
16:10
...where you just write a line about the issue
16:13
<Monkberry11>
ok
16:14
Would you like me to do it? I don't see it posted yer
16:14
yet
16:14
<alkisg>
Whatever you prefer
16:14
If you don't do it in half an hour, I'll do it; your choice :)
16:15
<Monkberry11>
I'll just watch for it
16:15
Thanks again!
16:15
<alkisg>
