<huafu>
hi, but too late lol
00:59
once I created an custom image in /opt/ltsp/images, it'll create a nbd config, but I can't figure out how I can mount it on the client
01:00
can anyone point me to the right location where this is/should be defined?
01:00
I guess somewhere in lts.conf :/

aloa
05:19
is there a way to tell ltsp to NOT sshfs mount the /home/$USER on the client?
05:36
<cyberorg>
huafu, use FSTAB_n in lts.conf to mount /home/$USER whatever way you prefer, then sshfs is ignored
05:36
<huafu>
cyberorg, ah cool, but what if I mount /home instead of /home/$USER ?
05:37
<cyberorg>
huafu, should work as well, test it out
05:37
<huafu>
ok thanks!
05:41
also I keep having this in the ldm log

06:42
<huafu>
is there a reason why I can log to my remote rsyslog using telnet, i can do it also from the server using logger -n server.ip.address..., but when I run that last one logger from a fat client as root (using epoptes -> execute -> terminal -> local root) it silently....does nothing
06:42
<alkisg>
...log to rsyslog?
06:42
!rsyslog
06:42
<ltsp`>
rsyslog: To enable remote client logging in Ubuntu (it possibly also works on Debian), see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ltsp/+bug/697387/comments/9
06:42
<alkisg>
That's about all I know
06:43
<huafu>
alkisg, yeah I did that, also from the client I DO can log to the server using bare commands in a telnet session
06:44
but when I use `logger` it does not do anything
06:44
tho the same logger command from the server does work
06:45
<alkisg>
Did you set the lts.conf variable for rsyslog?
06:46
<huafu>
alkisg, yes
06:46
<alkisg>
When the client boots, do you see all the boot messages on the server?
06:47
Dec 15 09:25:19 ltsp33 systemd[1]: Stopping LSB: Epoptes client LTSP helper...
06:47
E.g. things like that
06:47
<huafu>
alkisg, but why would that lts.conf variable matter when using `logger` from the command line?
06:47
<alkisg>
Because it configures the client-side logging system
06:48
<huafu>
even if i use logger -n 192.168.42.254 -t myapp -p user.notice "FOO BAR"
06:48
?
06:48
<alkisg>
(08:46:32 πμ) alkisg: When the client boots, do you see all the boot messages on the server?
06:48
<huafu>
alkisg, for that does it needs to be UDP or can it be TCP?
06:49
<alkisg>
The instructions that I tested/posted were for udp
06:49
I haven't tested all variations
06:50
<huafu>
ok, how to restart rsyslog so that it would take into account the chagne from tscp to udp? I tried restart, reload, force-reload, I still can't see udp in netstat and still see TCP
06:50
apart from reboot of course :D
06:50
<alkisg>
You only need to follow the instructions of the post
06:52
<huafu>
alkisg, I understand, just I set to tcp for now, and I needed to restart the server so that the config would be taken into account. Now I need to change to udp so that it would be like the post, and I was asking if I could make rsyslog take it into account without a reboot
06:52
<alkisg>
The instructions mention:
06:52
2) Restart rsyslog:
06:52
sudo service rsyslog restart
06:52
<huafu>
trying to restart the service does nothing, not even an error, I still see TCP instead of UDP in netstat outout
06:52
<alkisg>
...I don't have anything to add to that
06:53
The client part sends udp
06:53
<huafu>
I do restart it but it does not give a shit about my changes looooool
06:53
<alkisg>
Not the server
06:53
<huafu>
ok I'll reboot then

06:58
<huafu>
ok alkisg now it is listening on udp
06:58
and logging
06:58
will try the CLI
07:01
btw, I created /etc/ltsp/user, bind mounted it on /home/user on the server, then in lts.conf FSTAB1=LABEL=HOME /home rw 0 0, finally the LDM_XSESSION is responsible thanks to a rsync command to reset the content of /home/user thanks to /etc/ltsp/user ;-)
07:02
<alkisg>
...why /etc/ltsp/user instead of plain /home/user?
07:02
<huafu>
because /home/* is excluded ;-) and it's good that it's excluded from i386.img
07:03
<alkisg>
Why don't you rsync over ssh, so that you don't need to update the image every time you update the /home/user?
07:04
<huafu>
yeah well I tried milion things and without you around I was kinda stuck all the time with either something not working or something I couldnt find out how to do
07:04
<alkisg>
OK
07:04
Whatever works for you :)
07:04
<huafu>
so how would I rsync from the server? I meant, where is the ssh key to use, etc..?
07:04
or where can I find some example?
07:05
<alkisg>
all ldm code ssh's to the server, search the code for LDM_SOCKET
07:05
<huafu>
in the ldm sources?
07:05
<alkisg>
Yes, in /usr/share/ldm in your server
07:05
<huafu>
wtf, the sources are there??? hahahah
07:05
this is the best info I could have lol
07:06* gehidore is the sources
07:06
<huafu>
omg, and the rc.d you talked to me about are there too! couldnt find them even with a find
07:07
...with -name X01-localapps
07:07
<gehidore>
you failed at find?
07:07
someone needed wildcards
07:07
<huafu>
I tried '*localapps*' too
07:08
<gehidore>
and what's the actual file you found called?
07:08
cause that's some wicked find fail
07:09
<huafu>
ah no, I think I '*X10-localapps*' and there is no such file, anyway, was last night around 4am lol
07:09
<alkisg>
X01
07:09
not 10
07:09
<huafu>
yup saw that now :p
07:10
OMG all is so better now with that folder
07:10
omg thanks thanks thanks
07:10
hahah th rc.d
07:10
ok I will have way less questions for sure, maybe no more haha
07:11
there should be a big heading on the ltsp page saying that the sources are there, so self explained!
07:12
<alkisg>
Hahaha
07:12
OK here's a new one:
07:13
dpkg -L ltsp-server
07:13
shows the contents of a package
07:13
dpkg -L ldm, etc etc
07:15
<huafu>
right I should have done that, but I actually thought all was some binary
07:17
<alkisg>
Most of the ltsp code is bash, a little is python and .c, only .c is compiled
07:17
There are also scripts at /usr/share/ltsp and at /usr/sbin...
07:17
dpkg -L will tell you where exactly they are
07:24
<huafu>
alkisg, yup, in my mind it was 90% c so I was far from thinking about changing anything. now that I know it's bash and python, that auto-update of i386.img on the local hard drive of the clients with resume is way more something I can implement ;-)
07:24
I need to go, brb in 2 hours or so
07:24
