10:38
<ltspuser_17>
I need to know if it's possible to have a different filesystems and tftpboots?
10:39
I have different thin clients and they need different kernels...
10:39
so I need to have a different filesystem and tftpboot for each one...
10:39
I'm using ubuntu 12.04
10:40
and with this scenario if I use the command ltsp-update-image which image would be updated?
10:46
<alkisg>
Yes, it's possible. What kernels do you need?
10:47
<ltspuser_17>
I have the kernels...
10:47
I only need to know where should I put all the files in ubuntu..
10:47
which path, and how I can specify the image to update... etc
10:48
<alkisg>
Is the filesystem compatible with the client you want to boot?
10:49
E.g. if you have a client that doesn't support "cmov", and you have a kernel without "cmov", the client still don't be able to boot, since the programs will need support for "cmov".
10:49
<ltspuser_17>
yes I think so...
10:49
The machine doesn't boot.... stays on the step etho; link up....
10:49
<alkisg>
So I think you should say more about what kernels do you need and where did you get them
10:49
<ltspuser_17>
and this message appears over and over...
10:50
I compile the kernel that I needed...
10:50
is for a terminal with geode....
10:50
<alkisg>
OK, if you think that's your only problem, just put it in /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/vmlinuz, overwriting the one there, and see if the client boots
10:50
<ltspuser_17>
yes...
10:50
I have checked that
10:51
and is not booting
10:51
<alkisg>
So I was correct in saying that's not your only problem :)
10:51
<ltspuser_17>
but with the other terminal is booting with the olde image
10:51
so I don't want to change that filesystem
10:51
and I need to have 2 at the same time
10:51
<alkisg>
Oh, you're the guy with the "filesystems" :)
10:51
<ltspuser_17>
how can I do that?
10:52
yes :D
10:52
<alkisg>
I agree with Hyperbyte, you're making it too complicated
10:52
<ltspuser_17>
but I have change all the scenario
10:52
now is ubuntu's the tftpboot server...
10:52
<alkisg>
Install one OS and try to troubleshoot any problems, don't use 10 filesystems and 3 kernels to solve your problem :)
10:53
<ltspuser_17>
I have installed 1 filesystem and 1 kernel
10:53
the original from ubutnu
10:53
ubuntu
10:53
and the terminal is not working...
10:53
how can I change the kernel if these terminal need a specific processor?
10:54
<alkisg>
First thing is to find a distro that supports your terminal
10:54
Did you google about it?
10:54
E.g. they might be supported in 10.04 but not in 12.04
10:54
<ltspuser_17>
It's a Lucida terminal...
10:55
<alkisg>
I don't know it
10:55
<ltspuser_17>
did you know them?
10:55
<alkisg>
Try with google or with a usb stick
10:55
Until you find one distro that supports them
10:55
Then use that distro, done :)
10:56
<ltspuser_17>
but I need to have a virtual machine with that distro too right??
10:57
this ubuntu 12.04 can't provide another filesystem with another distro?
10:57
<alkisg>
It depends, find the distro/kernel/version which boots your terminal first and then you can see if you can use a different server or not
10:57
When you say "filesystem", we don't understand what you mean
10:57
<ltspuser_17>
ok
10:57
but only one last question
10:57
<alkisg>
Do you mean "chroot"? The network disk that is sent to the terminals?
10:58
<ltspuser_17>
I don't want to change this filesystem that I am using on the other terminal
10:58
how can I put some terminals running one filesystem and the others running a different filesystem...
10:58
<alkisg>
Why?
10:59
E.g. if a 10.04 or a debian wheezy chroot boots all your terminals, why do you want 2?
10:59
<ltspuser_17>
but some kernels could give me support to some specific drivers
10:59
like geode
11:00
<alkisg>
And that kernel would also support your other terminals
11:00
So you could use that for all
11:00
<ltspuser_17>
no
11:00
because I put a specific processor...
11:00
<alkisg>
In any case, you control the kernel from pxelinux.cfg
11:00
<ltspuser_17>
yes...
11:01
<alkisg>
You can have 10 kernels and 10 clients, and each client boot a different kernel
11:01
Check the syslinux wiki for details
11:01
<ltspuser_17>
but inside /opt/ltsp i can have like i386 and teste
11:01
<alkisg>
Yes
11:01
<ltspuser_17>
and this teste is the other one...
11:01
<alkisg>
You can also have 10 chroots if you want
11:01
First, make the geode client boot. Then come again here to find out the LTSP-specific bits.
11:01
<ltspuser_17>
but when I do ltsp-update-image? how can I provide the path?
11:02
<alkisg>
ltsp-update-image teste
11:02
<ltspuser_17>
ok
11:02
let me find the kernel and distro for that terminal
11:02
thank you very much ;)
11:02
<alkisg>
Right, google is your friend there
11:03
You could also ask in #ubuntu, in case someone knows those terminals
11:03
You're welcome

<ltspuser_17>
I tried to ltsp-update-image and he creates an image with the two folder insisde /opt/ltsp
11:12
and only one nbd image is created...
11:13
where do I specify thar this terminal boots using i386 and the other boots using teste?

<alkisg>
ltspuser_17: move away your existing image so that it's easier for you
11:34
sudo mv /opt/ltsp /opt/ltsp-for-working-clients
11:34
And put your geode image in /opt/ltsp/i386
11:34
Once you find an image that works, then ask for the ltsp bits
11:36bobby_C has joined IRC (bobby_C!~bobby@85-124-22-227.teleworker.xdsl-line.inode.at)
11:38
<ltspuser_17>
ok
11:38
but only to know
11:38
it's possible to have different paths inside /opt/ltsp/i386?
11:38
and create different images for each terminal??
11:39
I think I know how to do it
11:39
you can create on the path /opt/ltsp/i386 and then cp the image to a different name
11:40
and then you only need to change in pxelinux.cfg/default the nbd image and in /etc/nbd-server
11:40
right?
11:49
<Hyperbyte>
ltspuser_17, you would create a new folder in /opt/ltsp/, not in /opt/ltsp/i386/
11:49
Have a look in /opt/ltsp/. You'll see a folder "i386" and "images". Inside "images" there is i386.img
11:49
The i386.img is created with ltsp-update-image --arch=i386
11:50
If you make a new image chroot folder in /opt/ltsp/test/ for example, and run ltsp-update-image --arch=test this should take care of creating the .img file, as well as updating the nbd-server config I think.
11:51
But - like alkisg said - I'd start with getting a working image first, in /opt/ltsp/i386/ and -then- sort out the LTSP bits.
