<alkisg>
stgraber, ogra_, highvolt1ge, sbalneav, I want to apply to become a Debian Maintainer and I need one more person to sign my gpg key. It doesn't matter if he's not a DM/DD, as long as he's "reasonably well connected in the web of trust". Since you're the only ones here that I met in person, would you be willing to sign my key?
10:06
<ogra_>
alkisg, i only have a 2048 bit key, not sure debian still considers that valid
10:06
<alkisg>
ogra_, it is

Could you? :)

<Floppydisc>
Hello World...!
21:04* vagrantc waves
21:04
<Floppydisc>
I've got a running LTSP environment. Now I've got my hands on some really old (but never used) computers, that doesn't boot network.
21:05
<||cw>
gpxe
21:05
<Floppydisc>
What do I install on the 20 gig HD to force a network boot.
21:05
<||cw>
^
21:05
<vagrantc>
Floppydisc: how old are we talking?
21:06
20 GB hard disk sounds like it might actually be too old.
21:06
even debian recently (maybe accidentally) dropped support for 586.
21:07
<Floppydisc>
Celeron 1GHz, 128 MB ram
21:07
<||cw>
that's fixable with some effort
21:07
so a P3 era?
21:07
<vagrantc>
oh, those should be fine, if a little short on ram
21:08
<Floppydisc>
They are capable of 256 MB.
21:08
<vagrantc>
if you could steal the ram from two machines to make one with 256, that might be more viable
21:08
<||cw>
odd they don't have pxe, unless it's a cheapy NIC
21:08
<Floppydisc>
...one slot...:(
21:09
They are extra-extra-small-micro-form-factor.
21:09
<vagrantc>
Floppydisc: you've scoured the bios for network booting options? sometimes you need to enable something, reboot, go back into bios, and enable it in a different menu too.
21:10
<Floppydisc>
vagrantc> Pretty sure.
21:10
<vagrantc>
Floppydisc: it's definitely technically possible with only 128MB of ram, but it will be prone to network swapping a lot ... you can do some things to trim the memory requirements down a bit
21:10
alkisg_away is a master of the art.
21:11
<Floppydisc>
But I'll give that gpxe a go...
21:11
<vagrantc>
!gpxe
21:11
<ltsp>
gpxe: the successor to etherboot (http://etherboot.org). To download bootable floppy, cd, usb, kernel etc images, visit http://rom-o-matic.net/
21:11
<vagrantc>
!ipxe
21:11
<ltsp>
ipxe: iPXE is the successor to the etherboot/gPXE project, and can be used to netboot clients that don't have a NIC ROM with a PXE stack. To add it to grub, see !grub-ipxe. To add it to the Windows boot loader, see !win32-loader. To download floppy, CD or USB images, visit http://ipxe.org or install the ipxe package.
21:11
<vagrantc>
i guess gpxe is technically dead, try ipxe :)
21:15
<||cw>
website does seem old, but doesn't say its dead
21:16
<vagrantc>
well, i don't think it's seen any activity since the primary author forked and started ipxe
21:27
<Floppydisc>
Seems to be booting gpxe just fine, but I won't really know for sure until I fire up the server. That however must wait until tomorrow. Now it's 23:30 and another workday tomorrow.
