alkisg: an ldm-ubuntu-mate-theme theme should be quick to do. I think vivid is far post ui freeze right now though so perhaps for +1 or in a ppa?

Hmm for some reason, my ubuntu-mate 14.04 ltsp installation defaulted to NFS and it needed an extra update-kernels to be fixed... It was like /etc/ltsp/update-kernels.conf wasn't there the first time, but I can't reproduce it

Whoops mate does the right thing when remote users try to poweroff the server; it prompts them. Gnome-flashback doesn't prompt, it ignores them.
08:13
...but that's bad for ltsp, because then a teacher on a thin client might power off the server instead...

Hi all,
09:38
small problem with a 14.04 ubuntu server + LTSP install. We have successfully installed a 12.04 server and client (thin and thick), no problem. But on the same server, a 14.04 stop at "starting to serve" and "size of exported file...etc..." when the client connects, and never reach the GUI. Any idea, please ?

vagrantc: I want to have an LDM_GUESTLOGIN=auto option, which is true when LDM_USERNAME is set, and false otherwise, does that make sense? And maybe that would be also true for LDM_AUTOLOGIN
14:40
Of course, the use case where LDM_GUESTLOGIN=True and LDM_USERNAME is unset, and the hostname is used, still applies...
14:43
The problem currently is that sysadmins set LDM_GUESTLOGIN=True (or LDM_AUTOLOGIN=True), then they get a new client or change a NIC, and they complain because login doesn't work for that one client... they think that Xorg restarts etc

ok, so the problem is that LDM_GUESTLOGIN/LDM_AUTOLOGIN default to a username which may not be present on the server, and logs in with an invalid user, and doesn't provide good feedback?
15:07
<alkisg>
Yes, they just see xorg restarts
15:07
And it tries to autologin with hostname, whatever that may happen to be

so it wouldn't change LDM_GUESTLOGIN/LDM_AUTOLOGIN=true?

<championofcyrodi>
this could break current set up though right? i guess i should test upgrading from working ltsp-server from the ubuntu repo to ppa on another system first?
16:03
<alkisg>
I don't think ltsp-trunk is much different than 14.04, so I don't expect it to break anything
16:03
<championofcyrodi>
okay

<championofcyrodi>
okay, so i've added this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~ltsp-upstream/+archive/ubuntu/daily and apt-get update worked since i also added the signing key.
16:10
the 'deb'
16:10
not src..
16:12
apt search shows: ltsp-server/trusty,now 5.5.1-1ubuntu2 all [installed]
16:12
basic LTSP server environment
16:14
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ltsp/5.5.1-1ubuntu2: so yea, this version doesnt have the ldm fix since its from 04-14-2014
16:14
*ldm password hashing
16:16
looks like even the daily ltsp-upstream ppa has an older version of ltsp... so I guess I need to update just 'ldm' ?
16:17
ah i see... the ldm package is actually inside the chroot..
16:21
so do i just ltsp-chroot and add the PPA there, update the package and rebuild the image?
16:21
http://paste.ubuntu.com/10713024/
16:22
^those are the packages inside the chroot.

alkisg: when you say i need a newer ltsp and ldm, do you mean that i need to upgrade the packages for both the server and the fat client image?
16:55
<alkisg>
championofcyrodi: ...do you really want me to check which of them are needed client side, which server side, and which both? Why not update all of them?
16:57
<championofcyrodi>
no. I was asking because I wasnt sure if the PPA was intended to be used for the client side. since the ltsp package on the PPA is further behind than the ubuntu repo.
16:57
<alkisg>
If the daily builds fail, and there are no newer ltsp versions there, we need to fix that
16:57
<championofcyrodi>
i'm looking here: https://launchpad.net/~ltsp-upstream/+archive/ubuntu/daily
16:57
and the newest ltsp package has a timestamp of 2013
16:58
with a link that says a newer version is available in the ubuntu ppa
16:58
<alkisg>
https://code.launchpad.net/~ltsp-upstream/+recipe/ltsp-trunk-daily
16:58
build logs there will show the error, probably something changed in the packaging...

work_alkisg: in theory i keep it in another random branch
19:13
work_alkisg: so right now experimental would be from a version since before wheezy, since that was the last experimental upload :P
19:13
work_alkisg: well, i only introduce branches when i need to diverge.
19:14
work_alkisg: in debian, most development happens in unstable, loosely targeted at testing
19:14
work_alkisg: but i guess i could name them after each release target ... i.e. ltsp-debian-wheezy-packaging, ltsp-debian-jessie-packaging, etc.
19:14
work_alkisg: still wouldn't get you your daily stuff, since i don't build dailies

<championofcyrodi>
well, i'm not really sure how to implement the upstream packages from ltsp daily. I naively used the ubuntu community ltsp impl (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP) and didn't realize it was not updated as frequently as i need.
20:56
it sounds like i want to do something like this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/UseStgraberPPA
20:56
but that doc is outdated.
20:57
where ppa:stgraber/ppa ~ ppa:ltsp-upstream/daily
21:00
also this link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/UpdatingChroot only explains how to move your existing chroot to the side and build a new one. However, I would like to keep my existing chroot configuration and just update the ldm/ltsp/ltspfs packages.
