hello
17:23
i am running edubuntu/gutsy ltsp5 and it workes well. 8 clients but only the first client logged in could mount local devices. don't know why.
17:24
is that a known problem?
17:25
to be more precise: I had a look at https://wiki.edubuntu.org/DebugLocalDev and everything seems fine
17:26
but I do not get an icon on the desktop automaticaly
17:26
only for the first client/user logged in everything works fine
17:37
<johnny_>
yes it is
17:37
it's a reigstered bug
17:37
on launchpad
17:44
<yokoy>
johnny_: thank you. is there a bugfix?
17:44
<johnny_>
yes
17:44
in the bug
17:45
<yokoy>
?
17:45
<johnny_>
the fix is in there
17:48
<yokoy>
johnny_: do you have a bug number?
17:48
<iMacGyver>
anyone know how to add more monitors to the detection routine on edubuntu?
17:57
<yokoy>
thank you for help and have a nice day

18:18* johnny_ needs to find a reason to come to portland
18:18
<vagrantc>
dberkholz: i'll keep an eye out for you and/or leave a note
18:18
<johnny_>
a way to afford to come to portland
18:18
more likely
18:18
<dberkholz>
vagrantc: k, sounds good
18:22
<iMacGyver>
anyone know a good document describing how the xorg.conf in ltsp5 is generated? is X itself generating it, or some script?
18:23
<vagrantc>
iMacGyver: basically, it is Xorg -configure, taking the file generated, and then modifying any values set from lts.conf
18:23
iMacGyver: see /opt/ltsp/*/usr/lib/ltsp/configure-x*
18:24
<iMacGyver>
gah i was looking over there...but ubuntu's 'smart tab complete' fooled me
18:30
hmm, would be nice if i could easily somwhere specify for model X monitor, the syncs are always blah

<iMacGyver>
hehe, *jus* found that, thanks though :)
19:57

<AzMoo>
Hey, I've got an ltsp setup in my office here that's working great, but when I take the client off-site to another one of our branches it wont finish booting. It gets the IP and the boot image, shows the Ubuntu loading splash, and then drops to a blank screen (completely blank, like the monitor's turned off). If I ctrl+alt+f1 then I can see a linux console so it's obviously booted and stopped. Does anybody know where I should be looking?

22:54
<johnny>
the client?
22:54
or the server?
22:55
if it's the client, the problem must be on your server
22:59
<AzMoo>
Yeah, when I take the client off-site it's not able to boot anymore. I just checked it and it stops where it says, "IP-Config: eth0 hardware address 00:1c:c4:8c:e3:51 mtu 1500 DHCP RARP", then there's nothing else after it.
23:00
<johnny>
so is the server there correct?
23:00
do other clients boot there?
23:01
<AzMoo>
It's the same server, just a different site. We have a Private IP network between sites.
23:01
We have no other clients at that site. We're using it for internet kiosk's in the lunch rooms.
23:01
<johnny>
so you sure it's actually finding your server?
23:01
it sounds like a networking problem
23:01
<AzMoo>
johnny: Well it boots the windows.
23:01
windows? wtf am I saying
23:01
boots ubuntu
23:02
Or at least shows the splash screen.
23:02
<johnny>
it's prolly not the client specifically tho
23:02
do you have a laptop?
23:02
<vagrantc>
does the server have gigabit and the client have 10/100mb network cards?
23:02
<AzMoo>
johnny: yep
23:03
<johnny>
try booting from net on the laptop
23:03
<AzMoo>
I agree, I don't think it's the client.
23:03
<johnny>
then you'll be sure
23:05
<AzMoo>
vagrantc: Yes.
23:08
<vagrantc>
sometimes that causes problems like that ... not sure how to fix it
23:11
<AzMoo>
:\
23:12
<MacIver>
maybe your router isn't passing everything
23:12
<AzMoo>
I'm wondering if it's a dhcp relay issue.
23:13
but no, that makes no sense because it gets the boot image
23:14
<vagrantc>
yes, but the networking in linux is different from the networking in your bootloader
23:14
<MacIver>
can you log into the client once it booted the image and see if it can get nfs/ping the ltsp server, etc
23:15
(i.e. ctrl-alt-f1, and then log into the local machine)
23:24
<AzMoo>
MacIver: When I Ctrl+Alt+F1 it's hung at the line after "Loading, please wait..." I don't get the login prompt like I do when it's up here.
23:41
<MacIver>
so maybe nfs is choking?
23:42
have you tried nfs over your wan?
23:43
might also be the swap nbd thingy
23:44
do you get any errors on any of the vts?
23:49
<AzMoo>
Nope, no errors at all. I will give nfs a go over the wan as well as johnny's suggestion of checking a different client.
