I have trouble making gnome-session-flashback or fallback work with ubuntu ltsp 14.04
10:57
Anyone have successfully implemented this?
10:58

Yes.. there's a known problem with 3d acceleration checks if you're talking about that

Hi, I just got my hands on a mysterious looking thin client, (which was being used for a windows setup), and trying to set it up for LTSP. But it doesn't seem to support the normal PXE-boot-from-LAN setup..
14:39
the 'setup' says UTMA info - version 5.4 (if that means anything) ... would love to know which direction to look in further.. the manufacturer/reseller's website doesn't have much details on this
14:40
I have a functioning and tested ubuntu ltsp server supporting other thin clients which work out of the box. would love to find a way to run these as well.. i can take photos of screenshots and share
14:40
(if that'll help)
14:40
<work_alkisg>
What's the manufacturer's link for this product?
14:41
If it's a zero client, it can't boot linux
14:42
<m_anish>
one sec
14:43
http://enjayworld.com/
14:43
http://www.tradeindia.com/fp847283/ENJAY-ULTRA-MINI-PC-BLX.html
14:44
work_alkisg, the 2nd one is probably the product I have
14:44
the 1st one is the mfg website
14:44
<work_alkisg>
"it is the first computer terminal without CPU"
14:44
=> no cpu => no linux
14:44
You can only use that via some special protocol and with the specific host they provide
14:45
It's similar to zero clients...
14:45
<m_anish>
or that could be marketing fud ? :/
14:45
ok
14:45
ok
14:45
thx
14:45
<work_alkisg>
zero clients have only a special chipset that allows them to communicate with the server and display things on the monitor
14:45
They don't run an os
14:45
<m_anish>
okay
14:46
so i guess these machines are probably locked to windoze-land then :/
14:46
<work_alkisg>
userful multiseat uses those with linux
14:46
(linuxon the server only)
14:47
I don't know if they support any zero client or only their own
14:47
And of course after you boot one os like windows, nothing prevents you to do a remote desktop connection to another os
14:47
e.g. via x2go
14:48
<m_anish>
work_alkisg, yes, but that first host os would need a server (probably running windows and the mfg's software)
14:48
<manukai>
ltsp-update-image ends up in stat...could not.../tmp/tmpXXX.. is that bad?
14:51
<m_anish>
work_alkisg, thx, you saved me a few hours atleast of effort bouncing about on the internet
14:53
<work_alkisg>
m_anish, you're welcome, but do google a bit to verify it
14:53
manukai: is that the second time you run ltsp-update-image? could it be there's something already mounted?
14:53
<m_anish>
work_alkisg, yes, I'll also contact the manufacturer tomorrow, to figure out if something could be worked out.

as a success story from my side, we now successfully run LTSP on gentoo using ZFS exclusively in our production environment, and apart from usbip not working with some devices, everything is going smoothly. the road was rocky and a pita though ;)
15:13
<m_anish>
work_alkisg, "Enjay Thin client can connect to any server supporting RDP protocol. To create Windows RDP session in Tornado, To edit ..." dumb question: could it simply be a matter of creating an rdp session?
15:14
<fiesh>
oh and alas opengl lags too much for quake3 too run well, it does run well, just the graphics lag behind by a considerable amount of time, like .2s or so

Hello, I'm trying to run ltsp on low ram machine (128MiB) with just chromium running in it, but it's totaly unusable. I turned on NBD swap but with no difference. can there be something done with it or I have no chance of getting better performance with chromium? With 192MiB of RAM it's much better
20:11
I meant I'm trying to run thin client for LTSP on low ram system, not the server itself of course.
20:19
<vagrantc>
jammcq: might work
20:20
jammcq: also trying to rally some LTSP folks for debconf in germany this year, last august

fwiw, the debian conference is pretty welcoming to folks from other distros, too, and values cross-distro collaboration

Germany? that'd be a blast. I'll bet you'll get Ogra
