Ehy! Hello! :)
14:33
Another question :D
14:33
Here: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/precise/en/man5/lts.conf.5.html
14:33
It's written that LDM_THEME can be specified.
14:34
So i tried to specify LDM_THEME = xubuntu (because i have noticed that exists: /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/ldm/themes/xubuntu)
14:34
And it works fine.
14:34
But i tried:
14:34
cp -a /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/ldm/themes/xubuntu /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/ldm/themes/miaomiao
14:35
(Then with Gimp changed the miaomiao/bg.png and verifing permissions)
14:35
And when i set LDM_THEME = miaomiao it show me the theme "ltsp".

Hi guys, a quick question: It is possible to use x11vnc in a thinclient with LTSP?
15:19
<valeriobozzolan>
Probably you want to use the software Epoptes to manage the screens ov every thin client
15:20
Just install "epoptes" pakage on the LTSP server :)
15:20
<vagrantc>
[GuS]: should be possible, and epoptes may do what you need to.
15:21
<[GuS]>
vagrantc: right, i hear about it. But installing it in the LTSP server right?
15:21
<valeriobozzolan>
yes :)
15:21
<[GuS]>
btw, is supposed to use it as remote, not locally
15:22
<vagrantc>
[GuS]: you need both server and client components for epoptes
15:22
<[GuS]>
vagrantc: ok, i will have a look at it. Thanks Guys
15:22
<vagrantc>
[GuS]: what exactly are you trying to do?
15:22
<[GuS]>
the thing is:
15:22
<valeriobozzolan>
See this LTSP section: http://www.epoptes.org/installation
15:22
<[GuS]>
My boss wants to control, like VNC, a particular thin client remotely
15:23
<vagrantc>
epoptes is perfect for that sort of thing.
15:23
there's definitely some creepy potential there...
15:23
<[GuS]>
In the past, i used to try with x11vnc but I didnt make it...
15:23
vagrantc: Ok, then thanks again :)
15:24
<valeriobozzolan>
Epoptes is great! It allow to see every client connected and it allow you to enter in one to control it remotely, and another great thing is that Epoptes allow you to broadcast your monitor to every thin client.
15:25
"remotely"...
15:26
<[GuS]>
valeriobozzolan: yes, remote, not local
15:27
Sorry, I'm not pure English speaker :D
15:27
<vagrantc>
remote is a bit complicated in the sense of LTSP...
15:27
<valeriobozzolan>
:D
15:28
<vagrantc>
as the client is running things remotely on the server, and the server is running things remotely on the client...
15:31
<[GuS]>
well, i can tell my boss then to open epoptes with ssh -Y :P

if you really wanted, you could configure epoptes to connect to your boss's machine instead of the LTSP server.

Yeah. Just that in this case, He wants to "control" a Thin client of a Employee.

hi there ! LTSP is great. I love it and I use it for home made thin client. Sometimes traditional PCs with local OS (Micro$oft) is needed. So i've build an os deployment project based on LTSP.
16:31
<championofcyrodi>
nice
16:32
<raphr>
I must admit this is not in LTSP spirit. But LTSP can boot on any hardware where others projects failed (clonezilla, fog). That's why the project was born.
16:33
<highvoltage>
raphr: not entirely against the ltsp spirit, ltsp has a plugin infrastructure that can be used to integrate something like that tightly into ltsp
16:34
<raphr>
yeah! plugin in LTSP is another great idea
16:36
there's a git repository here : https://github.com/leschartreux/ltsp-osdeploy with a wiki.

raphr: nice

17:03

yes at it uses pxelinux.cfg feature. It's quite easy to modify the default one (copied from client to server).
17:05
But it still should be Local boot by default with timeout for things work correctly handless

<valeriobozzolan>
A question: Why I can't login to new "fresh" users from the thin client? I have to login the first time almways from the LTSP server, and only after that that account can be used on the thin clients.
17:11
<championofcyrodi>
maybe because the home folder needs to be created on the ltsp server?
17:12
<||cw>
valeriobozzolan: how are you adding users?
17:12
<championofcyrodi>
like, there is no home folder for gnome to put all the X settings in
17:12
I use sssd to authenticate against a ldap directory server.
17:12
<||cw>
hm, wouldn't pam do that?
17:12
<valeriobozzolan>
Even from GUi than fron `adduser`
17:12
<championofcyrodi>
then i enabled pam_mkhomedir in /etc/pam.d/common-session
17:12
<||cw>
ah, right, not by default
17:12
<championofcyrodi>
pam isnt doing that by default
17:12
<||cw>
so then why's local do it?
17:13
<championofcyrodi>
I'm not sure
17:13
maybe the useradd uses the -m flag by default?
17:13
<valeriobozzolan>
(When i create the user I'm 100% sure that the home is created) :)
17:14
Nono, I akways check if the home exists :)
17:14
<||cw>
can you ssh as the user before logging in local?
17:14
<raphr>
maybe you should lokk ssh and pam side
17:14
<valeriobozzolan>
I try now.
17:15
<championofcyrodi>
valeriobozzolan: ||cw is right, make sure you can ssh into the server first. It should give you feedback. maybe ssh -v <host> to get verbose information
17:16
also pam_mkhomedir uses /etc/skel as the users home directory when they first log in, defaulting them to bash and some other env vars. That is where I do most of the client configuration for users default settings.
17:17
<raphr>
good idea
17:17
have to go now. See ya.
17:21
<valeriobozzolan>
From SSH I can access :|
17:23
After logged as SSH successfully, from thin it almways does not work.
17:23
I have to login fron the server once to get it work :|
17:24
Bit strange.
17:25
Bit strange because I can see that the new home folder of the new user is full of .Xautority .Xdefaults, .profile, .bashrc, etc etc etc.
17:27
And it does not want to login while I haven't already logged this user from the server once.
17:30
<championofcyrodi>
i had the same problem
17:30
before switching to sssd and directory authentication
17:30
i thought it was a feature ;)
17:31
<vagrantc>
i've pam_mkhomedir working with LTSP on debian squeeze, wheezy, ubuntu lucid and precise... haven't tried with newer versions.
17:31

17:32

Hello all, I am trying to strip the realm portion from a login on ltsp thin clients. I'd like it to work in the following way user@somerealm.com would be passed to pam as user. Is there any way to do this through LDM?

<vagrantc>
valeriobozzolan: you do need to create the users in order for pam_mkhomedir to work...
