<map7>
I'm using ltsp 20.1 and when I run 'ltsp ipxe' I get "Could not locate required iPXE binary: snponly.efi"
04:10
I'm running debian testing "bullseye"
04:14
<vagrantc>
it's optional
04:14
well, sort of optional ... you need it for EFI support
04:14* vagrantc thought iPXE included it
04:15
<vagrantc>
map7: what version of ipxe packages do you have installed?
04:17
should be fixed in ipxe 1.0.0+git-20190125.36a4c85-2 https://bugs.debian.org/944321
04:18
map7: should be in bullseye as of late 2019
04:18
bah, it's not in the current packages
04:20
<map7>
hold on, I forgot to install ipxe. thought ltsp would've installed it. Didn't realise it was optional.
04:20
<vagrantc>
oops, checking the wrong package
04:20
<map7>
I thought it was in the recommends
04:20
<vagrantc>
yup, it's in the new package
04:21
<map7>
in ltsp 20.3?
04:26
<vagrantc>
i checked the ipxe package to make sure snponly.efi was still in it ... but i accidentally checked the version before it was fixed :)
04:26
<map7>
vagrantc: It's booting now. Maybe when running 'ltsp pxe' without ipxe installed it should suggest to install the ipxe package.
04:27
<vagrantc>
map7: ipxe is only in Suggests as there are use-cases where it's not required
04:27* vagrantc would've put it in recommends
04:27
<vagrantc>
but alkisg insisted
04:28
that's why the https://ltsp.org/docs/installation/ lists a bunch of packages to install
04:29
notably, though, it lists "ltsp-binaries" rather than "ipxe" ... as that's what the PPA ships
04:29
which includes some additional binaries not available in Debian
04:31
<map7>
ah, I just did a clean install but didn't add the PPA and it couldn't find ltsp-binaries so I took it out.
04:31
not knowing it stored the ipxe package
04:32
make sense now

04:46
<vagrantc>
it falls back to trying the ipxe package ...
04:47
which is in the package description suggests ... but ... suggests are so well hidden as to almost not be useful
04:48
for a ~1MB package ... i'd just as soon add it to recommends

<alkisg>
Heya vagrantc and map7... these packages are in suggests and not in recommends, because ltsp is the client package, not the server package
05:57
There's no server package currently, to avoid migration issues, thus the long installation line
05:58
<map7>
ok cool
05:58
<alkisg>
And frankly there are so many different server package requirements, that I'm not sure it's worth it to create one... ltsp5 had "ltsp-server" and "ltsp-server-standalone" and we were thinking to create "ltsp-server-dnsmasq"... a bit chaotic
06:29
<vagrantc>
yeah...
