<mherweg>
i'm looking for a way to improve epoptes-client so that it can also work when the client boots before the epoptes server boots
00:59
...maybe the new feature "automatic reconnect" will do that?

<bennabiy>
alkisg: did you ever get that tvbox to work? It is a bear to work with
15:18
<alkisg>
bennabiy: no, I didn't buy it, what does "it's a bear" mean, that it's too wlo?
15:18
*slow
15:19
We prefer to buy i3's here
15:19
<bennabiy>
no, you would need to enable EFI netboot, and the bios is not the greatest to work with
15:19
I have yet to get one to boot with ltsp
15:19
<alkisg>
Doesn't it have a local disk?
15:19
<bennabiy>
I had to install a distro to the card on it to even get it into linux
15:19
yes
15:19
<alkisg>
You can easily put initrd+kernel there
15:19
!local-boot
15:19
<ltsp>
local-boot: If you want LTSP fat clients on a low-speed network, you can put i386.img on e.g. C:\Boot\LTSP\i386.img and use this command line in pxelinux.cfg: APPEND ro initrd=ltsp/i386/initrd.img init=/sbin/init-ltsp root=/dev/sda1 rootflags=ro loop=/Boot/LTSP/i386.img; IPAPPEND 3
15:19
<alkisg>
Hmm no, not that
15:19
!local
15:19
<ltsp>
I do not know about 'local', but I do know about these similar topics: 'install-localapp', 'localdev', 'localapps-print', 'RDP-localdev', 'localapps', 'LocaldevCommonGroupWorkaround', 'localxterm', 'local-disks', 'local-boot'
15:20
<alkisg>
!kernel
15:20
<ltsp>
I do not know about 'kernel', but I do know about these similar topics: 'ltsp-update-kernels'
15:20
<bennabiy>
!initrd
15:20
<ltsp>
Error: "initrd" is not a valid command.
15:20
<alkisg>
Meh, anyway, it's KERNEL_DEVICE in lts.conf
15:20
<bennabiy>
hmm
15:20
<alkisg>
It auto-updates a local kernel and initrd
15:20
<bennabiy>
if I can get one working I will let you know what I had to do
15:20
I have two of them
15:20
<alkisg>
It's just efi, isn't it?
15:20
I was able to boot all efi clients that I had...
15:20
<bennabiy>
yes, but a very dummied down interface
15:21
it is not well documented
15:21
<alkisg>
Sure, it doesn't need any firmware options, just a local kernel
15:21
<bennabiy>
it is designed for windows 10 or android
15:21
<alkisg>
I suppose it doesn't have CSM compatibility mode to make it easier for you, does it?
15:21
<bennabiy>
nope
15:21
<alkisg>
Can it boot an ubuntu uefi usb stick?
15:21
<bennabiy>
I do not remember
15:22
I will have to get it back out of the drawer
15:22
<alkisg>
Did you ever boot linux on it?
15:22
<bennabiy>
yes
15:22
I installed to the card
15:22
<alkisg>
Then it's a piece of cake :)
15:22
Was it fast enough?
15:23
<bennabiy>
I do not remember
15:23
I will have to get it out this week
15:23
I do not have time right now
15:23
<alkisg>
If it boots linux and it's fast enough, then it's fine for ltsp
15:23
<bennabiy>
If you remember more about how to get it working, I would appreciate it, and can try it out
15:24
<alkisg>
!uefi

uefi: To boot UEFI clients with LTSP, switch them to Legacy BIOS (CSM). If you can't, then use google translate on this one: http://alkisg.mysch.gr/steki/index.php?topic=6466.0
15:24
<bennabiy>
great
15:24
<alkisg>
That's just one of the many methods available
15:25
<bennabiy>
Now, is that your son, or you as a boy?
15:25
<alkisg>
Me, ~40 years ago... :D
15:26
<bennabiy>
thought so
15:26
great picture
15:26
<alkisg>
:)

<bennabiy>
alkisg: did I ever tell you I grew up with a family friend (was somewhat like my uncle) who had the same last name as you.

<truth_>
Hi, my LTSP-server has two NICs - one for the client network (client-net) and one to the rest of the office (office-net) including printer, gateway, ...
20:05
The LTSP-server is able to print to the office-printer (which is a network-printer and connected via TCP/IP).
20:05
Is it possible to share this printer to the LTSP-clients as well? - How?
20:19
<quinox>
One way would be to setup CUPS on the server that can talk to the printer, and then let the clients talk to that CUPS
20:20
<truth_>
Do you know an example link?
20:22
<quinox>
schematically it's like this: [client] <--> [CUPS on server] <--> [Printer]
20:22
I would start with configuring CUPS on the server, make it recognize the printer
20:22
CUPS has a very nice web interface for doing stuff
20:23
(the only nasty part is that it asks for the password of your root account IIRC)
20:23
if that works then you can hook up your client to the CUPS on the server
20:24
<truth_>
That is my problem. How can I hook up the clients to CUPS?
20:24
<quinox>
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CUPS/Printer_sharing#Manual_setup
20:24
I would try that first on a booted client - modifying that file should insta-work
20:24
if that works you can configure it in `lts.conf` for all clients
20:25
<truth_>
Manny thanks.
20:25
<quinox>
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/xenial/man5/lts.conf.5.html#contenttoc6
20:25
<truth_>
I will try this out ...
20:26
<quinox>
I used CUPS with a USB-printer to turn it into a network printer, worked great
20:29
apparently you can test it on a client by donig fe: CUPS_SERVER=server:port firefox http://www.cups.org
