tried that
08:58
didn't work but i the meantime i found the problem
08:58
i toke another monitor and now everything is working fine
08:58
weird
08:58
seems something with resolution or something
08:59
got another question in the mean time:
08:59
i installed firefox and flash plugin as local app with nat stuff in order
08:59
works faboulus
09:00
but should i install shockwave and java jre also as local app ?
09:00
or just on the server
09:01
<ftherese>
all of the port 80 requests seem to be going out over the ltsp server... so there is no way to block the client based on internet port... how to block a single user then?
09:03
is there some kind of packet mangleing or nat going on here?
09:04
how does the ltsp server handle the requests made by the client for internet resources?
09:04
does it communicate internet requests over a specific port for the client?
09:04
because it seems like the ports keep changing... If I block and reboot... it sets a different port
09:08
<Gadi>
yoshi__: if you run firefox as local app, you should install its plugins in the chroot as well
09:09
<bieb>
Gadi: how's it going?
09:09
<Gadi>
ftherese: applications running on the server make requests from the server, local apps make requests from the client
09:10
bieb: not bad - keeping the plates spinning
09:10
<bieb>
Gadi: I hear that... I am trying to finalize plans to make it to BTS
09:11
<Gadi>
nice. sadly, I will have to see your pretty face in the blogs...

09:23

09:23
<Lumiere>

09:23
<ogra>
they might add additional ltsp packages i.e. cluster stuff in the default install

09:25
i havent touched LTSP for a long time apart from adding ARM support
09:25
<bieb>
CAN-o-SPAM: sounds great.. I know the guys from Rutgers pretty well and they are big Linux guys.. I may talk to him and see if he can set me up a quick lab.. or some way I can do a live install while I am talking and then login to show how easily it works

hey all, im cross posting this in #ubuntu as well, but i have an interesting problem... it seems that my either my NFS or NBD daemon on my ltsp server crashes almost every thursday/friday. once it crashes the ltsp clients can no longer connect and the whole server starts becoming unresponsive (down to the point where I can't even login at the console, it hangs right after the motd). does anyone have any clues as what
12:20
could be happening? are there cron scripts that run on thursday or friday that might be causing some havok?

Is there some common bug in jaunty alternate cd causing Build LTSP chroot fail?
15:07
I am trying to install a demo server on a laptop and that stage failed twice
15:11
<alkisg>
Do you get an error message?
15:11
E.g. "you only have 1 network card..." etc?
15:11
<elias_a>
Not that kind of error message.
15:12
I only get a red screen saying "Build LTSP chroot failed"
15:12
I have never seen this before.
15:12
<alkisg>
I think at that point you can press alt+ctrl+f2 and see the logs
15:13
...but even if it fails, you can still run ltsp-build-client later on
15:13
<elias_a>
That's what I thought, too.
15:13
<alkisg>
I've seen that error too, but only on beta releases, not with the final
15:14
<elias_a>
I will first upgrade the installation with aptitude and tryi building LTSP again.

you installed the ltsp by chosing in the start the F4 option

or did you install ltsp with apt-get install ltsp-stand...

I see this line: option root-path "/opt/ltsp/i386";

Would I just change my config so that everywhere it reads /opt/ltsp it would then read /opt/ltsp_w_localapps ?
15:48
I've been following the docs for localappsjaunty, and it doesn't specify *what* the changes to dhcpd.conf are. They are fairly obvious, but I just want be sure to get it right

You'd better just make a backup of your /opt/ltsp/i386, and go ahead and install localapps in the existing one

<lfaraone>
does LTSP need password-based auth to be enabled in the host's SSH settings?
22:09
nubae_: see above
22:12
<Ryan52>
lfaraone: ya
22:12
it connects via ssh
22:12
<lfaraone>
Ryan52: hm. all of my users have weak passwords.
22:13
<Ryan52>
so use cracklib and expire all of their passwords?
22:13
I know that password expiry should work with LTSP, not sure about cracklib (I've never used it with PAM and SSH before)
22:14
<lfaraone>
Ryan52: how can I prompt my users for new passwords on their next login?
22:14
<sbalneav>
Ryan52: It does, I added it because I need it where I am.
22:15
lfaraone: If you simply expire their passwords, ldm will prompt them for new passwords next login.
22:15
<Ryan52>
sbalneav: I know it's supposed to, but I also know that we've broken it before.
22:15
just use normal password expiry stuff (sorry, I dunno how to do that, vagrantc handles it at my LTSP install :P)
22:15
lfaraone: "man chage" might help.
22:15
or might just cause you to screw up and lock everybody out..
22:15
<sbalneav>
man shadow as well
22:15
<Ryan52>
good luck :)

<lfaraone>
see, I have to create accounts for 100 new students. and I don't want to collect passwords from all of them, so I just set their password to something like "1984compsci!" (not really like that, but about the same level of security)

lfaraone: usermod and passwd -e should help you here
