alkisg: hi, I've tested latest epoptes on 16.04 (Kubuntu) and I can confirm that broadcasting teacher video is broken (starts then crashes client with "unable to connect to host, Connection refused (111)"
12:25
googling someone suggest to add "-localhost no" on vnc server... if you can tell me in what script add that option I could try to patch epoptes

<alkisg>
markit: where did you find the latest epoptes in 16.04?
14:11
Do you mean the old 0.5.10 epoptes? or 1.0?
14:21
<markit>
alkisg: ops, old 0.5.10 from greek repos
14:21
<alkisg>
markit: yup, that is using ifupdown, so you'd need to install it to make it run on boot
14:22
<markit>
I thought that ifupdown was standard in 16.04
14:22
<alkisg>
dpkg -l ifupdown
14:22
Is it?
14:23
E.g. lubuntu doesn't have it, afaik, it's using network manager
14:23
<markit>
I'm not at school, I will check... so epoptes 0.5.10 + ifupdown (in chroot) will work, correct?
14:24
<alkisg>
It should; otherwise it's a bug that I don't know about,
14:24
although, I don't really care about old version bugs; I'd only care for 1.0 bugs
14:24
<markit>
ok, I will let you know, or test here in a VM but I will jump to 18.04
14:25
but at least 18.04 kubuntu was a mess with systemd resolver and netplan, AFAIR. You told me that systemdresolver is taken care by your config script, so I just have to get rid of netplan I guess. Network manager in Kubuntu is unable to manage Bond interfaces, so is not an option (and in any case I want to avoid teachers mess with connectivity)
14:27
<alkisg>
markit: You told me that systemdresolver is taken care by your config script, so I just have to get rid of netplan I guess. ==> I said "ltsp doesn't configure anything"
14:27
So since ubuntu works, ltsp will work too
14:27
Now if you want to use dnsmasq for DNS, then you'd run ltsp-config dnsmasq --enable-dns, and that would disable systemd-resolved, and enable dnsmasq
14:28
Network manager in Kubuntu is unable to manage Bond interfaces, so is not an option => I'm sure that even if the GUI doesn't have the option, network manager still supports it with the correct configuration file
14:29
jeblesh: `getent group melavim` should only return the melavim user, not many users; you configured that wrong; but in any case, it's the group that is not deleted, not the user
14:30
<markit>
alkisg: probably, but in the gui you still see the 2 interfaces and someone could try to configure / they show as unconfigured with warning message I don't recall
14:30
<alkisg>
markit: that's just plain networking in ubuntu; not related to ltsp; whatever works for you
14:30
I told you how teachers here prefer it; if you have a different situation there, go for that one
14:31
Me, I want to know when they unplugged the network cable when they phone me "I don't have network"
14:31
I don't even use policykit to prevent them from editing network connections
14:32
<markit>
alkisg: was just a rant about the "good old days" where everything was simple and in 2 files (interfaces and resolv.conf), now is a mess OMHO
14:32
<alkisg>
Nah, for me it's much better now that they do have an icon that shows when they're connected and when not
14:32
And they can configure everything without text files, by a simple gui
14:33
But whatever works for you... you could also try to rant in #ubuntu, I guess, if you want to get it out of your system :)
14:36
<markit>
well, in a server I was used to check interfaces/resolv.conf, now just to figure out where is the right config is not so trivial, but maybe I'm getting too old for this stuff :(
14:38
<alkisg>
Right click > properties
14:38
It shows ip, dns, everything
