I'm using edubuntu with a test network of 1 thin client and a server with 512MB Ram...when I run YouTube videos in flash player there's no sound and the video freezes after about 5s of play time. Is this normal behavior?

I am looking for a LTSP guru that can consult a bit in the North West US. It might just be a phone consultation I am not sure yet. Anyone know where I can locate someone like that
18:23
?
18:29
<jroberts>
Looks like it's possible, since there is wacom support.
18:30
I'm going to dive in and try it. I may be back for help.

19:57
<jroberts>
yeah?
19:57
<vagrantc>
see that URL ?
19:58
<jroberts>
I dl'd the Ubuntu tar ball and put it in /opt
19:58
<vagrantc>
did you see the link that says "LTSP-5 Tarball Installation Instructions
19:58
<jroberts>
that's as far as the documentation got me.
19:58
<vagrantc>
" ?
19:59
<jroberts>
No. I don't
19:59
do you?
20:00
<vagrantc>
yes
20:00
it's right below the utility scripts
20:00
which is right below the tarball images
20:01
ok, ok. so it's a little hard to find.
20:01
<jroberts>
Yeah. To say the least.

Thanks.
20:02
<vagrantc>
when fedora actually integrates LTSP, it'll be a lot easier.
20:03
<jroberts>
ok
20:03
<vagrantc>
well, hopefully :)
20:03
it's pretty easy on ubuntu and debian

<mistik1>
vagrantc: Are there any required patches for the ltsp client kernel in use for v5.x
22:18
<vagrantc>
nope
22:18
that's the idea, anyways.
22:18
standard distro kernel
22:19
<mistik1>
No such thing exist in my distro, this is why I'm asking
22:20
<vagrantc>
there's no way to build a default kernel ?
22:20
<mistik1>
I assume there are simply things that need to be turned on for working with swap and such
22:20
<vagrantc>
it requires you to customize it ?
22:20
<jammcq>
vagrantc: you have to compile the whole thing, might as well customize it too :)
22:21
<mistik1>
There is a kernel patch set that is refered to as the gentoo kernels, however on install you compile it just like vanilla
22:21
<vagrantc>
to me, that's a standard kernel
22:21
jammcq: only if maintaining those customizations gains you something ...
22:22
<jammcq>
vagrantc: heh, you ever talk to a gentoo guy?
22:22
it's ALL about eeking out a couple of extra cpu cycles by tweaking every last thing you can
22:22
<vagrantc>
jammcq: well, sure. i understand there's a fundamental difference in philosophy here ...
22:22
<mistik1>
Agreed
22:23* jammcq enjoys giving the gentoo folks a hard time :)
22:23
<vagrantc>
but i think there's also probably a "standard" build that just happens if you don't hit any buttons.
22:23
many of the gentoo folks i know do actually just go with the gentoo defaults for the most part.
22:24
jammcq: so, about those updated tarballs... :)
22:24
<mistik1>
Those are prolly the people who use genkernel
22:24
genkernel is a set of scripts that will compile and install a very modularized kernel sorta like that other distros
22:25
<vagrantc>
i would think for a gentoo LTSP environment, you'd want as generic a kernel as possible, since it may be booting on varied hardware
22:25
<mistik1>
It accepts some arguments to change support for certain things
22:25
<vagrantc>
the main things you'll need are NFS support, NBD support ... and ... i think that's about it.
22:26
beyond "normal" things like TCP and such.
22:26
<mistik1>
FUSE maybe?
22:26
<vagrantc>
ah, yes.
22:26jroberts has joined #ltsp
22:26* vagrantc is hopeful to see another LTSP5 implementation
22:27
<mistik1>
I'm working on it ;-)
22:27* vagrantc is glad to hear it
22:27
<mistik1>
I'll tell you one thing though, I am still completely against ltsp-build-client

<jammcq>
mistik1: have you got a better way?
22:28
<mistik1>
I agree that ltsp5 should make it easy for any distro to implement LTSP, I do not agree that it need be the same
22:29
<jammcq>
huh?
22:29
<mistik1>
Personally I think its pretty useless to gentoo
22:29
<vagrantc>
that's what everyone says at first, and then they disappear off the face of the earth
22:30
:(
22:30
<mistik1>
sadly
22:30
<vagrantc>
ltsp-build-client is mostly a skeleton
22:30
there's not much to it you *have* to implement
22:31
you can make it as simple or as complicated as you want.
22:33
<mistik1>
I just wish I had some more hours in the day
