I followed https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/FatClients. I used to run thin clients. I built the fat client in /opt/ltsp/fat386 and modified /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf to use "/ltsp/fat386" instead of "/ltsp/i386". Now the fat clients show login screen but auth fails. In a flicker, the login screen reappears. how do I debug?

is there a limit to nbd image file size? I built a fat client. The image is ~774MB. I see a message in syslog "size of export file/device is 809943040" followed by a "Disconnect request received".
11:02
<alkisg>
No, no limit
11:05
That message is normal, it's checking for newer versions of the image
11:05
<sunson>
alkisg: oh, but auth fails.
11:05
<alkisg>
Check ssh keys and available/selected sessions, e.g. unity 3d might not work
11:05
If auth fails, check the password :)
11:06
<sunson>
alkisg: i know the password is right :)
11:06
alkisg: also the log (auth.log) shows that auth succeeded :)
11:06

alkisg: but i get login screen again. something flashes (too fast to read) and then it doesn't work anymore.

E.g. from the ldm preferences button, select unity 2d or so
11:07

its back to log screen
11:07
<alkisg>
That means that xorg crashes
11:07

<sunson>
weird. this happens only from my VM. the real clients login to desktop fine.
11:08
<alkisg>
VMs don't support unity3d
11:09
<sunson>
alkisg: i tried with other sessions also (including failsafe). how do I see X log on the fat client?
11:11
i have some basic doubts about whether my client is booting into thin or fat. how do I differentiate?

don't know what I did... (did too many things :( ) but it works for only one user - "me". All other users ldm fails to start X session (as seen in client's ldm.log)
11:32
the coincidence in /etc/passwd is that a 'test' account I created, happens to have the same uid as what "me" user has on server.
11:35
btw, http://www.epoptes.org/installation is throwing a 404.

vagrantc: for r2396, this would also do it: printf "$replace\n" >> "$file"
18:10* vagrantc wonders what the need for all the substitutions is
18:11
<vagrantc>
alkisg: is there any reason not to always include the variable directly, rather than through %s or %b?
18:11
<alkisg>
Multiple subnets == multiple lines == \n in the $replace string
18:11
Yes
18:11
For example:
18:12
If one wants to replace: This line contains %b which should not be interpreted, and \n which should be
18:12
...then that "%b" in the $replace line will be processed by printf in this case: printf "$replace"
18:12
...while it won't, in this case: printf "%b" "$replace"
18:13
But for the limited dnsmasq/ranges case, we don't mind, we shouldn't have any %b or other format specifiers there anyway
18:15
<vagrantc>
so that covers server/ltsp-config, what about client/share/ltsp/screen-x-common?
18:16
<alkisg>
I think r2398 is fine for that, we don't expect any escape sequences in $1 there, do we?
18:16
So there's no need for %b there

<mikec>
is there a way to completely clean out an ltsp-cluster-lbagent installation? For some reason my cluster doesn't want to see this machine I've reinstalled. On ubuntu 12.04 LTS, apt-get remove ltsp-clusterlbagent doesnt seem to be do the trick
19:51
when i re-install the package, there are config files in /etc/ltsp
19:51
namely lbaconfig.xml or accountmanager.conf
19:52
