hello does anyone know how I can set up a backup LTSP server to come online and resume hosting of my clients, I am familiar with the linux-ha project and heartbeat but im not sure exactly how to do it
13:24
<cliebow>
dt rask uses dhcp failover of sorts..will that do?
13:25
<FernandoMM>
Walla89: i have made one with heartbeat. What is exactly your question?
13:26
<Walla89>
i could use heartbeat to failover the DHCP service, however if the main server fails clients can log back in but they wont have access to their files which are stored on the main server
13:27
is there a way i can sync the clients files between the 2 servers?
13:27
<FernandoMM>
Walla89: yes, you have a lot of options. I'm using unison.
13:28
just a moment, i'll grab a link here
13:28
here it is:
13:28
http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~bcpierce/unison/
13:28
<Walla89>
k
13:29
<sep>
Walla89, i use NFS for homedirs so all servers have all the files at all the time without syncing with unison or rsync
13:29arc_ has quit IRC
13:30
<FernandoMM>
Walla89: here is a howto http://howtoforge.org/linux_unison
13:30
i usually run unison every minute
13:31
since it only get what was changed the network traffic is really low
13:31
<sep>
FernandoMM, i assume you have some way or avoiding running more then one unison at a given time.
13:32
<FernandoMM>
sep: actually no, but i have been running this for 7 months and never had this problem
13:33
ah yes, just remembered. Unison doesn't allow itself to run more than one time at the same location.
13:41
<Walla89>
thanks this seems much simpler than I thought
13:41
<joebaker>
I've got Ubuntu Edgy LTSP installed... The keyboard isn't working. I've tried adding xkblayout=en. I've set SCREEN_01=shell and SCREEN_02=shell. At this point the keyboard seems to work. Although screen 1 doesn't seem to display the carriage return.
13:42
I've also tried XKMODEL=105.
13:43
I'm using a LiteON Natural keyboard (US English style)
13:44daniQ has quit IRC
13:46
<joebaker>
screen_01 override for a host configuration doesn't seem to override the system wide configuration.
13:47
I'll try removing the default directives and see if it honors the per machine settings.
13:50
I'm re-trying without any SCREEN_01 directives.
13:53
I got a different XCMCP session (ldm I think) Now my keyboard works!!! Weee. I heard sound durring the login as well. Oooo and with LDM I'm all encrypted too righa?

Hi, I was told that the ltsp project does have a PXE boot disk for a laptop with a PCMCIA nic and that it should be available at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=17723
15:51
I can't find it.
15:51
Is my information incorrect?
15:54
<jammcq>
that's not correct
15:54
we don't have pxe boot disks, that's more like something Etherboot would have, and i'm not sure even they have it
15:55
<Laibsch>
OK, I am not too much into the terminology
15:55
I want to boot a computer over the network that has no floppy and no cd-rom
15:55
The nic is PCMCIA.
15:56
<jammcq>
a long time ago, we had a floppy that contained a kernel, that could support a few network cards, but that doesn't work with any of the latest versions of LTSP

the kernels have gotten too big to fit on a floppy, so we haven't maintained it in about 3 yrs
