<Leolo_2>
ok, so now I need to match sections in lts.conf based on OUI
02:21
and lts.conf only does full MAC
02:22
do I either spit out all possible MACs... or is there a way of specifiying lts.conf to use via dhcp or the cmdline?
02:23
I see $filename is used in 05-getltsconffile but I've always wondered how to set that...
02:23
because it's always empty
02:25
or I could patch getltscfg to match on OUI
02:26
specifically, I need to specify XSERVER=fbdev for some thin clients
02:35
ltsp.xserver=fbdev doesn't work

02:37
<Leolo_2>
# $filename comes from net-eth0.conf and is usually "/<path>/pxelinux.0".
02:43
I do have /var/run/ltsp/net.eth0.dhcpopts though ...
02:46
or I could just right my own script for init-ltsp.d
02:56

vagrantc: I put "X-Ubuntu-Depends: ldm-ubuntu-theme | ldm-themes" for Package: ltsp-client, so that apt install ltsp-client also pulls the theme
06:05
Should I also put "X-Debian_Depends: ldm-themes" ?

06:07
<bcg>
Leolo_2: interesting. can I see your patches?
06:31
<vagrantc>
alkisg: isn't it already a recommends from ldm ?
06:31
<alkisg>
vagrantc: not here in Ubuntu, let me check debian/control...
06:32
Ah there it is, X-Debian-Recommends: ldm-themes (>= 12.07.1)

how can I view if my ltsp configuration is OK ? (ubuntu-18.04)
15:34
<||cw>
is it working?
15:34
<sacarde>
I try by a arch system or qemu via PXE , dont works

in arch I run: tsclient

<sacarde>
which ports I have to view open in ltsp server?
15:36
<alkisg>
sacarde: tftp, dhcp, nbd, ssh, and xorg for thin clients
15:36
And if you're using epoptes, a few more
15:37
In general if you want to use firewall on the side that's facing the clients, maybe you should go for an internal network instead
15:37
I.e. 2 nic setup
15:40
<sacarde>
I view this: http://sacarde.altervista.org/np/porte1.txt

sacarde: yes, and? do you mean you don't know which ports are tftp, dhcp etc?
15:56
15:34<sacarde> I try by a arch system or qemu via PXE , dont works 15:35 in arch I run: tsclient
15:56
sacarde, tsclient is remote desktop
15:56
ltsp is remote booting
15:56
They are not related
15:57
If this is your first time installing ltsp, do it the easy way first
15:57
!install
15:57
<ltsp>
install: http://wiki.ltsp.org/wiki/Installation/Ubuntu for Ubuntu, or http://wiki.ltsp.org/wiki/Installation for other distributions
15:57
<alkisg>
Follow that page, then boot a real client
15:57
Once you have that working, then ask for more...
16:00
<||cw>
and if you do want remote desktops and not thin clients, look into x2go. tsclient is old and no longer supported, and rdp server on linux is just kinda weird.
16:02
<sacarde>
ah, tsclient is not terminalserverclient
16:02
<alkisg>
The clients of a terminal server are diskless
16:02
So they don't need a disk, they don't need an OS, they don't need programs
16:03
<sacarde>
but netboot
16:03
<alkisg>
They just get the OS via pxe
16:03
<sacarde>
ok
16:03
<alkisg>
Right, so you're not looking for a program to install on a client
16:03
It's remote booting, not remote desktop
16:05
sacarde: what are you trying to do, what is your use case, what do you want ltsp for?

<alkisg>
So that we tell you if it fits your needs or not
16:08
<sacarde>
then, for edutational purpose, I would like to try LTSP (virtualized in qemu)
16:08
<alkisg>
OK, to educate yourself faster, I would advice to run LTSP normally first, and then go for virtualized
16:08
Have you ever ran ltsp?
16:08
<||cw>
sacarde: a terminal server is a concept, not a specific thing. there are many forms. tsclient is a RDP and VNC protocol version. ltsp's ts side is remote X11, but it's also far more than just the desktop protocol
16:08
<sacarde>
ok, I read your link

Hello, I am having trouble running LibreOffice from the client on a fresh LTSP install. It won't load, and if I try and run from the cli I get "Warning: failed to read path from javaldx" Any ideas what I'm missing?
18:16
<Leolo_2>
bcg - how do you want my patches?
18:31
<alkisg>
jimbo: distro/version?
18:31
And thin or fat client?
18:35
<jimbo>
alkisg: ubuntu 18.04 and thin client
18:35
<alkisg>
jimbo: does libreoffice run directly on the server?
18:35
Also, are you using the greek schools ppa?
18:36
<jimbo>
alkisg: libreoffice does run fine on the server itself, and I am using the greek schools ppa
18:37
<alkisg>
Libreoffice developers say that "Warning: failed to read path from javaldx" is not significant, does it say anything else?
18:38
<jimbo>
alkisg: here's the output
18:38
<alkisg>
One person reported that he had wrong permissions in some ~/.config/ subdirectory, and resetting the permissions fixed it,
18:38
and another said that installing libreoffice-base fixed the dependencies

javaldx: could not fine a java runtime environment!
18:39
I've installed default-jre
18:39
<alkisg>
If you run it from the cli on the server, doesn't it say the same thing?
18:39
Watch for *differences* from when you run it on the server vs the client
18:40
Btw, are you sure it's a thin chroot and not a fat chroot?
18:40
what's the output of ls -l /opt/ltsp/*/usr/share/xsessions ?
18:41
<jimbo>
There are no errors when I run it from cli on server
18:41
<alkisg>
When you open the cli on the client, do you see `user@server`, or `user@ltsp123` there?
18:41
<jimbo>
I believe it's a thin chroot
18:41
<alkisg>
Is the hostname the one of the server when you open a terminal on the client?
18:41
<jimbo>
user@ltsp79
18:41
<alkisg>
Then it's a fat chroot
18:42
<jimbo>
ah ok
18:42
<alkisg>
And you're missing java in the chroot
18:42
So on the server, run ltsp-chroot -m apt install libreoffice-base, and when it finishes, run ltsp-update-image
18:42
(libreoffice-base pulls all the needed dependencies)
18:42
<jimbo>
ok will do

ok, i'll be back later, cheers for now

note that some of that is really specific to what I'm doing. like bureau-ssh

<bcg>
thanks, got them.
19:37
<jimbo>
alkisg: I ran ltsp-chroot -m apt install libreoffice-base followed by ltsp-update-image
19:37
<Leolo_2>
the stuff you will be more interested in are init-ltsp.d/, halt and dracut
19:38
<jimbo>
alkisg: that got rid of some of the errors but it still crashes with : Fatal exception : Signal 11
19:40
<bcg>
I'll take a better look later, it's already quite late.
19:42
...but for example bureau-ldm should be already included.
19:42
<Leolo_2>
no worries
19:42
yeah, I probably only put logging in there to try and figure out why it was failing
19:42
you could prbably ignore all the stuff screen.d/
19:46
another question : why I boot the fitpc2, the initrd gets loaded nearly instantly
19:46
but booting other hardware (fitlet or the DX30) initrd takes a while to load. each . is about one second apart
19:47
is this just a problem with the PXE implementation or ...?
19:47
wait, that doesn't make sense. because pxelinux.0 is doing the loading

<quinox>
Leolo_2: we have had clients booting slowly due to, I think, the TCP size being too big
20:09
let me find our hack to fix that...
20:10
(which is hardware dependent)
20:12
https://sourceforge.net/p/clonezilla/bugs/282/
20:12
the hack is not hardware dependent, the slowness is
20:13
If I remember correctly it's a difference of 10MB/s vs. 100MB/s
20:17
we now boot our clonezilla instances using tftpopts=-b10000 in the DEFAULT option of pxelinux.cfg/default
20:17
this way all clients are fast, not just some
