09:00 | <lifeboy> I used a Debian Wheezy server I created in a VM over the weekend to build a chroot i386 for my Ubuntu server. As Alkisg explained, I copied /opt/ltsp/i386 from the Wheezy VM to /opt/ltsp/i386 on Ubuntu Precise. Then ran "ltsp-update-image -a i386". Now my Thin Client boots Wheezy, but drop to a command prompt, not connecting to LTSP server OS. Clearly my lack of experience is thwarting me here. What am I doing wrong?

11:52 | <James_Epp> So I have my ltsp to the point where I can take a client and boot over the network into it. However, if I add a user on the server, I cannot log into that user on the ltsp client. What am I missing? This was working perfectly yesterday....... (I have rebooted both the server and the client with no changes)
| |
12:00 | Even if I change the user to an administrator, I get no different result. As soon as I put in the credentials, it says "verifying password....." then goes back to main login screen with no error message.
| |
12:04 | Solution: When in the server, I switched users and logged in to make sure the user account worked. Now, the client can get into the user account just fine. I can only assume this means you have to log in locally before you can externally? Is there a work around for this?

| |
18:37 | (the install is screwy somehow anyway, because I'm not getting a complete login on either, but the newer model looks better, at least)

| |
18:40 | <komunista> please, are there some noteable changes for updating to the new stable?

19:09 | <unkmar> DJUnreal: that is pretty well empty.
| |
19:09 | and doesn't exist under the arch.
| |
19:12 | /var/log/auth.log isn't helping any either. :(
| |
19:13 | and I can't view it from the client side. Won't auth for any users.

| |
19:14 | <DJUnreal> well that's really odd
| |
19:14 | <elias_a> Really, indeed.
| |
19:14 | <DJUnreal> ahh
| |
19:14 | <unkmar> I managed to discover the client IP and it is still pingable.
| |
19:15 | <DJUnreal> the client side won't auth because there actually aren't any users on the clients
| |
19:15 | <elias_a> Uhh...
| |
19:15 | Oh - that explains. :D
| |
19:15 | <DJUnreal> but your client should be connecting back to the ltsp server and the ltsp server should log issues opening xsessions to it
| |
19:15 | you might find an xorg.log or something similar in /var/log on your server
| |
19:15 | which will give you a fighting chance at working out why your clients aren't doing too well
| |
19:16 | it's almost as if your screensaver is locking up X
| |
19:16 | <unkmar> still shows connected via sshd from 'ps aux'
| |
19:16 | <DJUnreal> yes, so you're opening the raw connection
| |
19:16 | presumably it doesn't fail to authenticate?
| |
19:16 | ie your client boots up, you log in at the LTSP screen, and /then/ it stops working?
| |
19:17 | <unkmar> I'm looking from the server point of view. :/
| |
19:17 | Other clients are still working.
| |
19:17 | <DJUnreal> wait... your SERVER is locking up when the screensaver kicks in?
| |
19:18 | <unkmar> The server appears to be working fine. The client can no longer log back in.
| |
19:18 | <DJUnreal> right
| |
19:18 | so run me through it from the start
| |
19:18 | <unkmar> Other clients are logging in fine. I've reset the client password and still no go.
| |
19:18 | <DJUnreal> your server is up and running
| |
19:18 | you boot up a client
| |
19:18 | you're able to log in and use it
| |
19:18 | and after the client runs its screensaver it locks up?
| |
19:18 | <unkmar> yep, pretty much.
| |
19:18 | <DJUnreal> Okay
| |
19:19 | <unkmar> The client isn't frozen. I get a login screen. it just isn't authing.
| |
19:19 | <DJUnreal> ahhhhhhhh
| |
19:19 | that's different
| |
19:19 | i was about to blame drivers and gfx cards
| |
19:19 | Laughs Out Loud
| |
19:19 | <unkmar> everything is functional. Just won't auth.
| |
19:20 | <DJUnreal> that's unhelpful
| |
19:20 | but other clients can first-time-auth /after/ this issue starts happening?
| |
19:21 | <unkmar> and.. well. I didn't put ssh on the clients so... I can't see form the client perspective at all. :(
| |
19:21 | <DJUnreal> even with ssh on the clients
| |
19:21 | you can't see what's going on with them unless you have a local login which you won't have
| |
19:21 | <unkmar> Have not logged other clients out. So I don't know if they auth or not.
| |
19:21 | <DJUnreal> because the clients have no local users as i understand it
| |
19:22 | <unkmar> I'm running fat clients and they have persistance but... yeah. looks like a lot of things are unavailable. :(
| |
19:22 | <DJUnreal> sounds like perhaps lockfiles are getting in the way or something
| |
19:22 | <unkmar> I'm booting a virtual client now to test login. :(
| |
19:23 | * DJUnreal puts the Jerez MotoGP on his other screen to aid his thinking | |
19:25 | <unkmar> okay. got locked into the freaking virtual host for bit there.
| |

| |
19:25 | <DJUnreal> Okay
| |

19:25 | or host-locked?
| |
19:26 | ahh awesome
| |
19:26 | i've managed to get NIS working :)
