Not too much
10:23
crying about the Elementary, but that's about it
10:24
<jammcq>

10:24
<rjune>
They've had drunken monkeys doing a lot of work
10:24
<jammcq>
heh
10:24
<rjune>
both there and at the high school
10:24
600' ethernet runs
10:24
pigtails just sticking out of walls.
10:24
rather then a proper jack.
10:25
~20 computers tied to a single 30 amp breaker
10:25
four 110 hots tied to a single 110 neutral
10:25
over five machines that have NEVER had any windows updates applied
10:25
<jammcq>
sounds pretty typical of a school
10:27
<rjune>
the 600' ethernet run was the high school, everything else was the elementary

am getting "xserver failed" on my k12ltsp 6 install.
17:58
but it fails only on a thinclient with the 82915G/GV/910GL video.
17:58
but it works on a thinclient with an i810 video.
17:58
it says i should chk /tmp/mnt/xorg.log but somehow, i can't find this file.

wth_: /tmp/mnt/xorg.log is on the thin-client ... you logged in there?

thanks vagrantc, found that.
18:14
it appears that the newer video 82915G/GV/910GL is also an i810.
18:14
so setting XSERVER=i810 should also work.
18:15
let me try that.

mistik1, Dude, ya gotta move to Rochester - if I'm busy like this for much longer, I'll consider hiring.
23:06
<mistik1>
wow
23:07
<PMantis>
Dunno if I can expect it to continue, but I'd like to hope so.
23:07
Right near the end of installing an aserisk phone system for a call center. 30 seats.
23:07
<mistik1>
Its great to hear that you're keeping busy man
23:08
<PMantis>
Thanks... well, How about YOU?!
23:08
You busy?
23:08
<jammcq>
busy is good, but are you making any money ? That's the important thing
23:08
<mistik1>
Not as busy as i'd like but I have a lot of other things on my plate just now
23:08
<PMantis>
Heh, yeah, that's important.... it *IS* why we do thins, right?
23:09
The good part of this project is selling them 3 switches, 30 phones, cards, and my time.
23:10
<jammcq>
PMantis: do you ever run into issues with asterisk, when it comes to dialing conf-call access codes, or other dtmf things ?
23:11
<PMantis>
Yeah, dtmfmode is the option: rfc2083?, inband, info
23:11
<jammcq>
i've had a problem with things that start with '9'. For some reason, the phone thinks i'm trying to transfer the call
23:11
<PMantis>
You have to send DTMF in the same format that the other end is looking for it in.
23:11
<jammcq>
kinda makes it tough sometimes
23:12
<PMantis>
oh, what phone?
23:12
<jammcq>
Linksys 921
23:12
mfdutra says it's a problem in the phone, not in asterisk
23:12
<PMantis>
I have no experience with that. Perhaps the 9 is a hotkey for transfering...
23:12
<jammcq>
but I haven't found a work-around yet. although I haven't really looked much either
23:13
<PMantis>
Consider grabbing a Polycom (shameless plug-I sell them). :)
23:14
<jammcq>
i've got 3 of the linksys phones in my office. I'm not gonna throw them away
23:14
<PMantis>
I configured my customers' system so that any new phone on the network can autoconfigure itself, if you tell the server the mac address.
23:14
Ahh, true.
23:15
If I had one of the phones, it'd be easier to help. But given what I know so far, it's likely a phone config issue.
23:16
jammcq, have you registered your DIDs with e164.org ?
23:16
<jammcq>
huh ?
23:17
<mistik1>
lol
23:17
This is kinda funny seeing PMantis ramble along as the asterisk expert
23:17
I love it man
23:17
<PMantis>
e164.org is a domain for ENUM lookups.
23:17
heh
23:17
<jammcq>
what is DID ?
23:18* vagrantc thinks it's the past tense of "do"
23:18
<PMantis>
DID = Direct Inward Dialing...
23:18
<jammcq>
same as 'done'
23:18
PMantis: and that is..... ?
23:18
<PMantis>
today it refers to the actual phone number, with country code.
23:19
<jammcq>
separate phone numbers for each phone ?
23:19
<PMantis>
No, just a number that enters the * system
23:19
<jammcq>
I still don't understand
23:19
I have a phone number for my office
23:19
why would I need to register that anywhere, other than telling my customers about it
23:20
<PMantis>
Yes, that's considered to be a DID.
23:20
<robbie>
busy? when it stops being busy, that is good too. Thats when the cheques start coming in.
23:20
<jammcq>
PMantis: ok, why would I want to register that?
23:21
<PMantis>
Ok, that's the point. My system does an ENUM lookup on evern phone number that I dial...
23:21
For example... if you dial me.:
23:21
15852989420
23:21
Your system can do this: host -t any 0.2.4.9.8.9.2.5.8.5.1.e164.org
23:21
<jammcq>
and why would I want to do that?
23:21
<PMantis>
(My number, backwards, in domain format)
23:22
Type that in a shell, and look.. it gives you a direct IAX2 dialstring for toll-bypass.
23:22
<jammcq>
I still don't get the point. why would I want that?
23:22
<PMantis>
"toll bypass"
23:23
<jammcq>
try speaking in English, maybe I'll get it
23:23
<robbie>
i think he means cheap phone calls
23:23
<jammcq>
cheap for me?
23:23
<PMantis>
Bypassing the phone company, so not paying toll for long distance.
23:23
<mistik1>
would it be fair to say its just a fancy phone book?
23:23
<jammcq>
who's not paying toll ?
23:23
how does it make it so I don't have to pay long distance ?
23:24
<mistik1>
hmm
23:24
<PMantis>
Anyone who dials you with an ENUM-enabled PBX connects direct... and if your system does lookups, you can save tolls for those people you call that have their numbers gregistered.
23:24
<jammcq>
it sounds like something I could do so OTHER people don't have to pay toll to call me
23:25
<PMantis>
jammcq, True, and each person does their part of listing numbers.
23:25
<jammcq>
so what goes there, Phone number and IP address ?
23:26
<PMantis>
Basically, yes
23:26
<jammcq>
and then, do I open up a port on my system to allow IAX2 connections?
23:26
<PMantis>
Yes
23:26
<jammcq>
sounds like a vulnerability to me
23:27
letting unknown people make iax2 connections to my asterisk box. hmmm
23:27
<PMantis>
Only for the numbers you give public access to.
23:27
<mistik1>
how much more vulnerable would it be than a listed phone number?
23:27
<jammcq>
listed phone number goes through my voip provider
23:27
they don't connect directly to me
23:28
<PMantis>
Right now, if people dial your number, they get the asterisk box. Not much difference.
23:28
<mistik1>
yea but unless asterisk is inherently vulnerable I dont see a problem
23:28
<PMantis>
mistik1, You probably still have a route in your extensions.conf to call me. :)
23:29
<jammcq>
I'll talk to my buddy john about it. see what he says

I have input like "Cr Limit/Terms= 500/130" or "Cr Limit/Terms= 10000/130" etc and I want to turn them into |500|130 |10000|130 etc. I am turning them into a csv file with | as the delimiter So far I have sed -e '/Cr Limit\/Terms=/ { s/\([0-9]\)\/\([0-9]\)/\1|\2/g}' but it changes every occurrence of number/number in the input not just that following "Cr Limit/Terms="
