<cemc>
hi. I'm running LTSP server on ubuntu. can I put my own variables in lts.conf and use them on the terminals?
07:35
<muppis>
cemc, I've heard that should work.
07:37
<cemc>
muppis: and how? how do I read those variables on the terminal say in a bash script
07:40
<muppis>
VARIABLE=value
07:43
They should appear in export list.
07:43
<cemc>
like they should be available to bash ? or in rc.local ?
07:48
<muppis>
To bash. I haven't tested it by myself, I've just readed from this channel.
07:49
But now for weekend. Bye.

alkisg: "compiz" :: if compiz is giving you problems, one way to disable it for all users is: sudo gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory --type string --set /desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager metacity
08:01
<mgariepy>
hey alkisg you seem to like this one ! :)
08:01
<alkisg>
unfortunately it's tooooooo common :)
08:01
(clients unable to login)
08:07
<shamino>
cemc: yes, whatever variables you define in /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf at server appears to /etc/lts.conf at client and you can export them to your user enviroment with: eval $(getltscfg -a)
08:16
<Gadi>
shamino, cemc: actually, better to use the command: . /usr/share/ltsp/ltsp_config
08:16
that's more accurately the env vars
08:18
<cemc>
Gadi: the ones I put under [Default] will be available to all thin clients, correct?
08:18
<Gadi>
correct
08:19
<cemc>
nice, I'll try that. thanks Gadi, shamino, muppis

I can't locate the guide for setting up a Fat Client on the 10.04 Alternative build using the ltsp install
10:31
should I be doing this from scratch?

I saw that but it was in reference as I was starting from scratch, somewhere I mess up the build
10:37
but if you say that is the place I will try and start from scratch
10:37
our lab enviroments internet is slow was the main reason I use the alternate disc
10:38
so I could troubleshoot easier it may take 4hrs to download a 600mb image (or longer)
10:41
<alkisg>
bufalosolja: you don't need to start from scratch
10:41
You can just remote your existing chroot and also use the alternate disk as an ltsp-build-client source
10:42
This way most packages will be loaded from your cd

Ok I will read on using my current disc as my source, and get a better understanding of chroot

Does anyone how to prevent firefox from storing a cache?
11:56
<akuepker>
I wonder if setting the amount of space in the options dialog to zero would disable it or would interpret as 'no limit'.
11:57
<mgariepy>
Ghidorah, browser.cache.disk.enable should do the trick
11:58
<Ghidorah>
thanks
11:59
<alkisg>
Anyone measured if squid + no browser cache is as fast as with browser cache enabled? I think that it was slower when I tried it...
