<MRH2>
hi i'm having trouble with ltsp ver 3 (yes old!) connecting to the xserver with a new kernel on the xserver
02:05
it boots ok
02:06
but what sort of kernel changes would stop a remote x session from working?
02:07
kernel on the server
02:07
<vagrantc>
considering ltsp 4.2 was released in what... 2006 ?
02:07
and that's basically so old we can barely support it
02:08
maybe 2005...

any thoughts on where i could look? nfs stuff?
02:20
the xorg file looked ok - maybe networking issues with ltsp 3 that only come to light now?
02:22
ok just too many updates to the kernel that are beyond me - i'll keep it on an old one for the mo

14:43
<otwieracz>
Hello.
14:44
Still noone have ideas why I can not log in with LDM?
14:45
http://wklej.org/id/929110/
14:46
How can I find where from the ssh is being started?
14:48
<alkisg>
ssh is started from ssh.c, the plugin
14:49
There are a lot of errors in your paste; some might be due to the bind-mounts and some due to bash vs dash
14:49
It's possible that they affect LDM too, if you run it properly otherwise
14:50
<otwieracz>
ssh is using /etc/ssh_config?
14:51
<alkisg>
Here in Ubuntu that's /etc/ssh/ssh_config, and it also has some command-line parameters
14:52
<otwieracz>
/etc/ssh/ssh_config in chroot, right?
14:52
<alkisg>
What are the contents of /var/log/ldm.log?
14:52
Right
14:53
<otwieracz>
So hypothetically I can set „RequestTTY” in /opt/ltsp/i686/etc/ssh/ssh_config?
14:53
<alkisg>
You shouldn't have to do that though
14:54
<otwieracz>
I understand.
14:54
<alkisg>
How are you launching ldm?
14:54
<otwieracz>
From /etc/init.d/ltsp-client
14:54
<alkisg>
Not from xterm, right?
14:54
<otwieracz>
Right.
14:54
<alkisg>
And what are the contents of /var/log/ldm.log?
14:55
<otwieracz>
Please wait a second.
14:55
<alkisg>
(after a login attempt)
14:56
<otwieracz>
http://wklej.org/id/931548/
14:57
ldm_debug.log: http://wklej.org/id/931550/
14:59
(output from „ldm” command, I've modified screen.d/ldm: http://wklej.org/id931552/)
14:59
And modyfing /etc/ssh/ssh_config gives no effects.
15:00
<alkisg>
About these: "date: invalid date ‘+%s’", /usr/share/ldm/rc.d/I01-halt-check: line 2: [: : integer expression expected
15:00
That's a bug in the ltsp script, please file a bug report with that message
15:00
!ltsp-bug
15:00
<ltsp>
ltsp-bug: To file a bug report for upstream LTSP, go to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ltsp
15:01
<alkisg>
That's not the problem you're having though
15:01
<otwieracz>
I know.
15:02
<alkisg>
About the rest, try `set -x` in some of the ldm rc.d scripts, so that all commands show in stderr, in your ldmdebug file
15:02
That way we'll see which commands produce the next errors
15:04
I don't think you're having an ssh problem; the output says it's authenticated
15:04
It sounds like an xsession problem, e.g. you just might even lack an xsession
15:04
<otwieracz>
Oh.
15:04
<alkisg>
Except for the `set -x` try, also put `env` somewhere there
15:04
<otwieracz>
Wait.
15:04
<alkisg>
To verify that your LDM_SESSION etc are all correct
15:05
<otwieracz>
OK, I've probably found the problem.
15:05
Current /etc/portage/make.profile symlink: hardened/linux/amd64
15:07
I'll try to set not hardened and recompile everything.
15:07
<knipwim>
hmm
15:07
the chroot?
15:08
not likely
15:08
<otwieracz>
No, in server.
15:08
I remember that it makes some problems with X forwarding.
15:08
I'll try.
15:08
<knipwim>
remove all your bin files
15:09
<otwieracz>
What do you mean by „bin files”?
15:09
<knipwim>
sorry, i'm still a bit wasted from last night
15:09
when building the client, by default binary packages are made, so the second build will be done much quicker
15:10
probably those are in /usr/portage/packages/i686/
15:10
<otwieracz>
I've rebuilded whole chroot witk --usepkg=no
15:11
Two days ago.
15:11
<knipwim>
and while you're rebuilding, set your locale properly in ltsp-build-client.conf
15:11
ok
15:11
<otwieracz>
But tell me.
15:11
ltsp-build-client is used while ltsp-build-client?
15:11
Or also in chroot and emerge -e --usepkg=no @world?
15:12
<knipwim>
huh?
15:12
ah
15:12
you're rebuilding from within the chroot
15:12
not create a new one
15:15
in the chroot, your make.profile should be linked to /usr/portage/profiles/default/linux/x86/10.0
15:15
ls -lh /etc/portage/make.profile
15:16
/etc/portage/make.profile -> /var/lib/layman/ltsp/profiles/default/linux/x86/10.0/ltsp/
15:16
and cat /etc/portage/make.profile/parent
15:16
/usr/portage/profiles/default/linux/x86/10.0
15:18
that's hardcoded
15:18
you cannot have made a hardened server
15:18
erm, hardened client
15:37
<otwieracz>
in chroot:
15:37
Current /etc/portage/make.profile symlink: ltsp:default/linux/x86/10.0/ltsp
15:39
euclid / # ls -lh /etc/portage/make.profile
15:39
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 58 Jan 16 13:49 /etc/portage/make.profile -> /var/lib/layman/ltsp/profiles/default/linux/x86/10.0/ltsp/
15:39
euclid / # cat /etc/portage/make.profile/parent
15:39
/usr/portage/profiles/default/linux/x86/10.0
15:39
So looks good.

hello, I have been searching all day trying to get my LTSP in Edubuntu (12.04) to auto mount windows user shares. I think I need some help. The main sources I have been going to are the man page for pam_mount and a older active directory integration (says its for 9.04)

<oo-dragon>
Lots of google searches come up with old documents that may not apply to 12.04 and the ones I try any way don't seem to work
23:12
any assist in getting this working would be appricated
23:19
<Hyperbyte>
oo-dragon, no idea really
23:19
But
23:19
This question isn't LTSP related.
23:19
You could ask questions like this in #ubuntu
23:20
Also, it might help if you explained your problem better... I have no idea what "automounting Windows user shares" means.
23:24
<oo-dragon>
well its for clients in LTSP
23:24
basically I'm integrating LTSP into a windows Active directory domain
23:24
and I want the user shares from windows to be auto mounted in LTSP, so they can go back and forth between platforms
23:28
<Hyperbyte>
Still not an LTSP question per say.
23:29
You'd have to run the mount after login of course, else you don't know which user to mount as. How about creating a script that automounts the CIFS filesystem? You can create a .desktop file for the script in /etc/xdg/autostart/ so it runs during login

yes though... cause it has to happen at the LTSP clients login. if it was just mounting locally for a single user, wouldn't be so bad

It doesn't have to happen at LTSP client login, does it? It could happen when the graphical desktop launches.
