sorry I'm back now. I'm getting some WeIrD errors. ---- update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.4.0-92-generic

I am running Linux mint 18.2
06:22
my server is AMD 8 core 4Ghz with 32 Gb ram

fuzzmew: I will look into that. I wonder if my package was not uploaded to the mint server

I dont know where the mint guide is I tried the one on the ltsp site, no joy, tried several pages and the wiki and no joy, I just don't know what I'm doing wrong unless it is that I am not using the mint guide, where ever that is
06:36
and many thankx for looking into it
06:36
<bennabiy[m]>
fuzzmew: I used to run mint, and might go back to it, but I have not updated the scripts for the latest mint, which means that something might have changed. Granted, it shouldn't have, but it might have. I can fire up a VM tomorrow possibly and see if I can get it to work fine
06:38

Many thanks for doing it, I will ask tomorrow then.

13:52* vagrantc wonders where the bot lives, and how we could back up it's factoids
13:53
<alkisg>
It's in ltsp.org, and I've done a backup 2 months ago...
13:53
I asked jammcq to host the server myself, he'll talk to Ron about the name first and he'll tell us later...
13:54
<vagrantc>
additionally, could we just dump the factoids to a webpage periodically?
13:54
could generate a FAQ from that
13:58
<alkisg>
I would prefer reading the factoids from a web page, if someone will invest the time to code that part... :)
13:58
A nice wiki with FAQ etc
13:58
Now the factoids are chaotic, e.g.
13:58

it's nice to be able to reference the factoids directly in irc when someone asks, but they're hidden if you don't know what to look for
14:01
<alkisg>
I think supybot supports !find or !list or some other commands to list all of the factoids
14:04
<vagrantc>
it usually only gives a partial list
14:04

Hrm. nbd-client shows a lot of errors while mounting the image in recent versions... I wonder if that affects everyone, or just me...
14:28
Buffer I/O error on dev nbd0, attempted send on invalid socket etc etc
14:28
And yet after the 15 initial errors, everything works fine

<alkisg>
nbd-server now supports "allowlist" to list the exports, nice!
14:31
We don't enable it by default though...
14:31
vagrantc: one of the problems I was having with ltsp-manager is, how to provide different defaults that the stock ltsp-config
14:32
E.g. ltsp-config creates a dnsmasq with port=0, i.e. disable DNS
14:32
While since we're already using dnsmasq, why not have it cache the requests, serve dns in the internal nic, etc etc, i.e. have #port=0 commented out
14:33
I tried using sed to comment it out, in `initial-setup.sh`, but in the next ltsp-config dnsmasq --overwrite, that was lost again
14:34
Would you like to default to enabling dns too in ltsp dnsmasq example, or should I search for some other way to override it specifically for people using ltsp manager?
14:35
<vagrantc>
i have no problem with enabling dnsmasq's DNS support ... i thought you had originally disabled it due to conflicts with ubuntu?
14:37
<alkisg>
vagrantc: no, I think originally you didn't like enabling dns by default...
14:37
The ubuntu bits, about "bind-interfaces" etc, are commented out in the example,
14:37
because even if those are used, ubuntu is still borked :D
14:38
Fortunately systemd-networkd and debian introduced a lot of changes and they got bored of maintaining the dnsmasq local resolver hack, and they will drop it (or they already dropped it in 17.10, I don't monitor non-lts versions)
14:38
ltsp-manager's initial-setup.sh undoes the ubuntu dnsmasq local resolver hack, so no problem there
14:41
Cool, I'll upload a new example dnsmasq.conf
14:41

only risk is if someone else already had it configured in some other way...

could also have a second dnsmasq.d fragment to enable and/or disable it

15:56
<alkisg>
vagrantc: many thing in ltsp depend on the arch, just because we decided to name the tftp subdirs etc based on the arch
15:56
That's a good thing for people using several chroots etc, but not for people using only one chroot or ltsp-pnp
15:57
How about making the default e.g. /opt/ltsp/default or /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/default, even if it's a symlink?
15:57
That way, dhcpd, dnsmasq, etc etc, everything could just point to the default by default, so that we don't have to sed or use examples.in files that substitute $ARCH depending on the build arch...
15:57
ltsp-update-image or ltsp-update-kernels can take care of generating the default symlink if it doesn't exist already
15:59
(I was thinking to symlink /etc/dnsmasq.d/ltsp-server-dnsmasq.conf to the examples dir, then I saw we'd need to use an ltsp-server-dnsmasq.conf.in to make it arch specific, then I thought, why do we want this to be arch specific when it can be "all", and I ended up to the "default" symlink idea...)
16:01
Btw, I'll split the proxy-dhcp ranges to a different file, e.g. ltsp-server-dnsmasq-ranges.conf, so that the main file can be just a symlink
