I'm in a corporate environment that is still using LTSP2 based on 2.4.26. I need to add fuso.o and httpfs (yea, I know; it's ancient) for an experiment we have been tasked with... I'm not sure how to go about compiling things against this old kernel. I only have the NFS target to work with; can I chroot it or am I going to need to build a box with 2.4.26?
04:29
<try2free>
Ryan52: i try, seems not worked
04:31
<Appiah>
from a 2.4.x to a 2.4.x should not be a problem , but from 2.6 to a 2.4 i have no idea O_O
04:39
<laga>
tekgnosis: i assume you want fuse.o, not fuso.o?
04:39
<tekgnosis>
yes, typo that was.
04:41
<laga>
tekgnosis: well, start by checking if fuse is available for 2.4.x kernels
04:43
<nubae>
morning laga, ogra, Appiah
04:44
<laga>
hey nubae
04:44
<tekgnosis>
I think I need to compile fuse instead of just finding the files though (libfuse.so and fuse.o); it seems to only come in source form. really, this isn't a question for this group it looks like. Thanks for help anyhow.

Hi ltspers, anyone here using Debian Lenny as their LTSP server?
10:31hanthana has quit IRC
10:31pasmen has quit IRC
10:31
<vagrantc>
i've been known to work with debian lenny :)
10:31
<sebjames>
I ask, because I am experiencing problems with XDMCP connecting to my Lenny server
10:31
<vagrantc>
you configured it to use XDMCP?
10:31
<sebjames>
Yes
10:31
<vagrantc>
what sort of problems?
10:31
<sebjames>
LTSP still uses XDMCP, right?
10:31
<vagrantc>
not by default
10:31
<sebjames>
Ok, here is my problem; GTK lists scroll slowly
10:31
So, evolution, for example is quite difficult to use
10:31
I tried connecting to an Ubuntu804 server, which has very similar package versions to Lenny and the list scrolling is just fine
10:31
It's weird
10:31
<vagrantc>
that is odd
10:31
<sebjames>
An email on the subject to the debian-user list didn't bring any answers, so I figured i'd ask you guys
10:31
But I thought xdmcp was still default for ltsp
10:31
<vagrantc>
haven't used xdmcp by default since the switch to ltsp5
10:31
<sebjames>
what does ltsp5 use?
10:31
<vagrantc>
it's still possible in theory, but ltsp5 uses LDM, which uses ssh X11 forwarding
10:31
<sebjames>
Ah
10:31
ok
10:31
I see this lag for any kind of X connection except for NX
10:31
<vagrantc>
sebjames: you can turn off the encryption for most traffic by setting LDM_DIRECTX=true in lts.conf
10:31
<sebjames>
Ok, I'm not actually using LTSP to make the connection (I do use ltsp, but not for this part of my setup)
10:31
<vagrantc>
ah.
10:31
<sebjames>
I thought I might find someone here who might say "oh, yes, GTK lists are slow in Lenny for me too"
10:31
<vagrantc>
sebjames: basically, LDM is a wrapper around "ssh -X" (well, actually, "ssh -Y")
10:31
<laga>
i seemt o remember an xlib issue making things slow in debian
10:31
not using debian though, just saw it mentioned here
10:31
<vagrantc>
yeah, i forget the bug numbers
10:31
<sebjames>
laga: I think it must be something like that. I want to figure out where, so I can change/path the lib in question
10:31
<vagrantc>
there was a connected bug in ubuntu... i think ogra linked them.
10:31
<sebjames>
That's useful info, I'll do some bug searching on xlib.
10:31
<vagrantc>
some of the xcb stuff, maybe.
10:31
<laga>
evilx: or "xlibs"
10:31
<evilx>
hmm?
10:31
<sebjames>
I use LTSP to network boot the servers and thin client boxes which my companies build into network print servers, by the way. I also installed an LTSP system in a school here in teh UK a few years ago.
10:31
<laga>
not sure if the package was called "xlib" or "xlibs"
10:31
<evilx>
I think you might have the wrong person, since I havent said anything in here in weeks
10:31
<laga>
i'm sorry, i meant sebjames
10:31
<sebjames>
laga: Many thanks.
10:31
<alkisg>
sebjames: there's a fixed ubuntu package in stagraber's ppa
10:31
for xlib, that is
10:31
<sebjames>
alkisg: Superb.
10:31
<alkisg>
You may get it to run under debian, or at least see the fix...
10:31
sebjames: https://launchpad.net/~stgraber/+archive/ppa
10:31
<sebjames>
I just need the fix. I plan to stick with Debian - I like the long time periods between system upgrades :)

Cool, that bug seems just right. I'll test the fixes tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your help!

how can i force acpi on the thin clients?
16:54
i have a bios that dated before 2000 and when booting it complains about the old bios and then that acpi has been disabled
16:54
<sebjames>
Hi folks. I was talking about a problem in xlib/libxcb a little while ago. I applied Stephane Graber's patch in Debian Lenny and normal service is resumed! Thanks for the help!
16:54
<zamba>
so i have to force acpi by doing acpi=force
16:54
i've tried adding that to pxelinux.cfg/default, but to no avail..
16:55
i notice a difference (like that the sound of the loudspeakers are way up), but i'm still not able to power the system completely off
