<tonyv>
I've been successfully running LTSP5 under Debian Lenny. After a motherboard change on the server, I'm now unable to log in from any client. The log shows "Host key verification failed". I've run ltsp-update-sshkeys and ltsp-update-image 'till I'm blue in the face, with no success. Any suggestions, please?
08:47
<epsas>
weird
08:47
"that shouldn't happen"
08:48
are you sure all services are being brought up?
08:49
<tonyv>
No, but I think they are. Which should I look out for?
08:51
<vagrantc>
tonyv: for future reference, on Debian, there's usually no need to run ltsp-update-image unless you've explicitly configured it to use NBD images.
08:52
<knipwim>
epsas: can you login from a regular computer in the network?
08:53
<vagrantc>
tonyv: from the server, try "ssh user@localhost" with the same user you're trying to log in with from the server.
08:54
<knipwim>
epsas: nm
08:54
tonyv: can you login from a regular computer in the network?
08:54
<vagrantc>
though i would think you'd get a different error if ssh wasn't running at all...
08:55
<tonyv>
Vagrant, that works OK
08:55hanthana_ has joined #ltsp
08:57
<tonyv>
Can't get to another computer on the network
08:57
<vagrantc>
tonyv: are you running dhcp on the same server?
08:57
<tonyv>
I've not configured it for NBD images (I think) but certainly need to rebuild the image...
08:58
Yes, DHCP on the same server
09:00
<vagrantc>
tonyv: did you use the --squashfs-image or --create-fs-image or --create-ext2-image options? those configure it to use NBD
09:00
tonyv: to ltsp-build-client, when you originally made the LTSP chroot
09:01
(and actually, only --squashfs-image would require using ltsp-update-image
09:01
)
09:01
tonyv: ok, so what's in /etc/exports?
09:03
<tonyv>
vagrant: I don't think so, too long ago. Certainly not squashfs-image.
09:03
vagrant:
09:03

Sorry, I'm new to this.

09:06
tonyv: and then: invoke-rc.d nfs-kernel-server restart

09:28
tonyv: so, does /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/ssh/ssh_known_hosts exist?
09:29
tonyv: and if so, does it contain the ip addresses you'd expect the thin client to be logging in as the server?

I have noticed something on my ltsp server (four quad xeon w/ 32gb of ram) ... I was watching top and a process (nautilus) call my attention when it was consuming between 90 to 98% of cpu usage. So I asked the user and it wasnt even browsing with nautilus, but before he was using a smb share in the same server trhough nautilus.... is any related bug with smb share, nautilus and ltsp ?

I want to know is there a 64bit version or is it on the same cd?
10:57
I think its called k2linux
10:58
no its k12linux
10:58
Is htere a 64bit version?
10:59
Or maybe I just dont know what im talking about

Gadi: i've been trying to push the bugfix you mentioned for hours
12:20
<Gadi>
the missing "n"?
12:20
<vagrantc_>
Gadi: yeah.
12:20
Gadi: the internet connection here got wonky shortly after the previous commit.
12:20
<Gadi>
wow! that must be a big "n"
12:20
:)
12:22
<johnny>
why did it have to be a perl script?
12:22
<vagrantc_>
Gadi: i knew /etc/ltspfs/mounter.d would come in handy
12:22
<johnny>
that code looks like it could be a shell script?
12:22
<Gadi>
hehe
12:22
I had issues with the shell script and suid running it
12:22
<johnny>
really?
12:22
<Gadi>
it wasn't working for me at the time
12:22
not sure why
12:22
<vagrantc_>
suid is tricky
12:23
<Gadi>
and perl only worked with the perl-suid package
12:23
yeah - mysterious
12:23
<ogra>
not reall
12:23
y
12:23
you dont exec the script, a shell execs it, the shell would have to be suid ;)
12:23
<Gadi>
ah - there ya go
12:24
<ogra>
and thats what perl-suid actually does, it ships a suid'ed interpreter
12:24* Gadi throws ogra a treat

<seanthegeek>
im runting to run donated P3 boxes as clients
14:04
just a basic ubuntu PXE boot
14:05

not the clients.. what will they be doing on the clients?
14:05

what type of server budget are you working with?

14:07
im looking at building one, please see the link above.
14:08
<bieb>
I was looking at that link...
14:09
personally... I would prefer stronger board, 2 processors and more RAM. The server I built has 16gb of Ram. For Firefox to perform well with 25 clients, you should use local apps.. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ltsp-localapps
14:11
<seanthegeek>
Perhaps i would be better off using drbl?
14:13
<Lns>
seanthegeek: personally I think your system might be OK..but i do agree with bieb, you probably wanna get a dual-CPU board instead
14:13
8GB RAM should be fine IMHO
14:13
no less than 4 though
14:14
<seanthegeek>
thanks for the imput
14:14
<bieb>
Lns: he only had 4gb RAM spec'ed
14:14
<Lns>
The things you run into mostly that tack-out the CPU are things like flash...normal stuff like openoffice and normal webpage viewing (no flash) should be fine with the CPU you specced
14:14
bieb: i know
14:15
<bieb>
ok
14:15
<Lns>

hey hey. I'm probably asking for trouble, but trying to get LTSP working in Ubuntu Karmic (+1 release). I can get the client up, and I can get it to run X, but I can't get it to do ldm - and I'm wondering what I'm missing. Any deubbing pointers?
16:43
<johnny>
enable ssh in the chroot, rebuild the image
16:43
and then ssh into it and check /var/log/ldm.og
16:43
ldm.log*
16:43
or
16:43
wait.. i wonder if this still works
16:43
or is not broken rather
16:44
set SCREEN_02=shell
16:44
in lts.conf
16:44
and then go alt +f2 and check ldm.log

hmm, it doesn't start X at all - it says 'Too few X's in /var/run/ldm-xauth-<randomstringhere>/Xauthority (which doesn't exist as a file in any of those directories)
16:56
(I have root shell access to the ltsp client )
