<mwalters>
last time I tried that, they spit out garbage?
13:06
<alkisg>
mwalters: which one, print via samba? It works fine here...
13:07
Garbage = probably wrong drivers?
13:07
<mwalters>
printing to a printer shared by a windows machine
13:07
(from a fat client)
13:07
probably
13:07
Ultimate goal would be to get rid of all of our windows machines... but that's probably not happening for a while...
13:07* mwalters shakes fist @ quickbooks
13:08
<mwalters>
Will probably have at least a windows server for a while... so I'll dig into that again
13:08
oh
13:08
CALs
13:08spaced0ut has joined IRC (spaced0ut!~spaced0ut@unaffiliated/spaced0ut)
13:09
<mwalters>
That's the real reason why not
13:09
<alkisg>
So?
13:09
You can chain print queues :)
13:09
LTSP server prints to windows; the others print to the ltsp server
13:09
<mwalters>
Oh... so technically the only machine accessing the windows machine is the ltsp server ;)
13:10
<alkisg>
So it's 1 connection; no need for cal
13:10
It may even be a VM in the ltsp server
13:10
If you have enough ram
13:10
<mwalters>
I'm sure there's some creative verbiage in the windows EULAs that covers that case ;)... MS are really good at making them IMPOSSIBLE TO UNDERSTAND... I doubt they'd care in either case with how small we are, though
13:10
I'll dig into that a bit further
13:11
yeah, we have a windows server at this office for quickbooks (and eventually moving all of our accounting staff to LTSP and RDP to the windows server)... the other servers are like 64gb or 128gb memory, so no problems there ;)
13:11
(other servers that host ltsp)
13:12
They bought big beefy servers here because they were doing thin clients
13:13
It'd probably help if I actually learned how CUPS/linux print stack even worked ;)
13:15
<alkisg>
I also enjoy the part where my rpi is a print server to all my linux and windows machines without having to do anything extraordinary
13:15
and a scan server for linux pcs too
13:33
<mwalters>
nice. We just do "scan to email" for scanning

saned was fun to mess with. I hacked a HP network scanjet5 once, stuffed a faster mainboard and scsi card in it, found a script for the serial LCD and keypad, and made a much faster network scanner
14:45
another HP mechanical design tho, the rollers were not designed to be replaceable, same with the 9100C, so they are all dead now. I do have a 9100C still working, but it can only do normal paper and only a couple pages at once

<josefig>
hi guys, i tried to upgrade some apps on my ltsp image and i'm getting the following error:
17:52
Err:2 http://ppa.launchpad.net/ts.sch.gr/ppa/ubuntu bionic InRelease >>> Couldn't create temporary file /tmp/apt.conf.Uxdvkc for passing config to apt-key
17:53
it looks like the tmp directory is not mounted when I do ltsp-chroot -m
17:56
<alkisg>
josefig: tmp isn't a mount
17:56
It's a simple directory; so you must be doing something weird
17:56
<vagrantc>
it can be...
17:57
<alkisg>
vagrantc: well, if he deliberately tried to ... what, delete tmp in the chroot and the mount it?
17:57
Because even if it was a mount point, it should work
17:57
<vagrantc>
true, that does sound confusing
17:57
<alkisg>
Maybe it's just "out of space" issue
17:57
<vagrantc>
plausible
17:57
<alkisg>
Or wrong tmp permissions
18:04
<josefig>
i did an upgrade of some packages needed on the ltsp server
18:04
but when I tried to install new packages and create a new image i got that error
18:06
but i didnt move anything regarding the tmp directory
18:06
maybe permissions?
18:06
drwxrwxr-x 3 root root 4.0K Jun 26 18:03 tmp
18:07
root@sagitario:/# df -h >>> Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda5 1.3T 142G 1.1T 13% /var/cache/apt/archives udev 12G 0 12G 0% /dev
18:08
it's not disk
18:08
<vagrantc>
should be drwxrwxrwt
18:08
<josefig>
ah I see
18:08
weird
18:09
worked, thank you vagrantc

vagrantc: so, buster == wayland by default? No epoptes, no ssh -X... :/
19:10
<Sleaker>
wait they swapped to wayland now?
19:10
hmmm
19:10
is it still a choice?
19:12
<alkisg>
Sure
19:12
It's just about the default... the choice should be there for many years
19:14
<Sleaker>
fair.

<vagrantc>
alkisg: gdm defaults to wayland with gnome; i'm not sure it's more than that
19:52
<alkisg>
I think that's all; but it's the "default desktop environment, default session"
