<EDinFL>
There's a discussion of LTSP in the group https://www.facebook.com/groups/LinuxUsersGroupOfficial

<alkisg>
EDinFL: thanks, it appears to be a private group, we can't see its messages, right?
12:32* alkisg thinks it's weird for open sourced groups to have closed communication :)
12:34
<ogra>
alkisg, you are clearly too old ! ... for the younger generation -> facebook == the internet ...
12:36
<alkisg>
ogra, I don't mind facebook (although I don't know how people organize information in there, it's too chaotic), but I thought it also supports open groups instead of closed groups...
12:36
Also I think irc == 50 years old, facebook = 40 years old, while 20 years old go to tiktok, twitch etc :D
12:37
<ogra>
haha
12:37* ogra wants to see the ltsp tiktok channel ...
12:37
<alkisg>
Hahaha
12:37
<ogra>
i especially want to see vagrantc dance while giving support to someone 😉
12:37
<alkisg>
Hahaha that would be awesome, let's make a tiktok group and invite vagrant, scott and jammjc :D
12:37
*cq
12:38
<ogra>
yeah
12:39* alkisg is trying altlinux for the first time ever, and remembers when there was an ltsp/altlinux folder upstream... :D
12:40
<ogra>
hah, back in the days ...
12:40
interesting that it still exists
12:48
<alkisg>
apt-get along with rpm instead of dpkg... fun :D
12:52
<ogra>
lol
12:52
i was once pondering to create a snap of flatpak for ubuntu ... sounds similar 😉
12:52Vercas has left IRC (Vercas!~Vercas@gateway/tor-sasl/vercas, Remote host closed the connection)
12:53
<alkisg>
A snap of flatpak, haha, it took a while to process that :D
12:53Vercas has joined IRC (Vercas!~Vercas@gateway/tor-sasl/vercas)
12:53
<ogra>
it is technically well possible (the other way around sadly not) ... but the political implications scared me
13:04adrianorg has left IRC (adrianorg!~adrianorg@179.187.25.143, *.net *.split)

<alkisg>
"The most notable change with the Ubuntu 21.04 desktop is now defaulting to the GNOME Shell Wayland session for supported GPU/driver configurations rather than the X.Org session."
14:55
...let's see how long until the usual vnc servers start working there...
14:56
<ogra>
well, it is still a year to the next LTS
14:57
<alkisg>
I got a bit disappointed when the gnome devs said "we don't consider VNC'ing to the gdm screen a valid use case" :/
14:57
<ogra>
there is pipewire now
14:58
<alkisg>
So controlling the user screen at gdm, or broadcasting the teacher screen before login, will never be supported in gdm
14:59
<ogra>
and teamviewer and vnc are both not run by poor companies ... there will be implementations of some sort eventually
15:01
<alkisg>
These aren't targeting "broadcasting screen", only "assisting"
15:02
There are many classroom tools for windows, but unfortunately only epoptes and veyon for linux
15:03
<ogra>
well, as long as nvidia doesnt move forward you can at least be sure that ubuntu will ship with the xorg session
15:04
<alkisg>
We'll probably be using KDE or MATE for the next few years in schools; if GNOME matures, we'll see about switching...
15:04
<ogra>
yeah, mate sounds like a sane choice
15:05
<alkisg>
People have been happy with mate for the last 6+ years, although I think kde is actually lighter these days
15:12
"Today, Canonical released Ubuntu 21.04 with native Microsoft Active Directory integration," ==> hmm, it would be nice to test that one with ltsp clients... to see if it can be done once in the template image, and then all ltsp clients would be registered to the active directory...
15:14
<ogra>
talk to jibel and didrocks, they implemented that in GDM
15:15
(if oyu run into issues)
15:15
<alkisg>
ty!
