....and today's question is, which one sounds better? ltsp-update-image --arch=root, --arch=self, --export-root, or --export-self? :D
04:46
(will read irc logs)
04:49
I think I prefer --arch=self...
04:50
And that btw exports the whole server disk into /opt/ltsp/images/self.img

alkisg, self is really self explanatory

although i would go for the --export-self
05:36
making it clear it's a different function
05:37
than creating an image for the arch of the server

If you look at client's login screen, you see client's IP at right and down corner with clock.

But after login you'll see server IP from terminal if it isn't started as localapp.

<alkisg>
The first time the user will run `ltsp-update-image --arch=self`, or `--export-self`. This will generate /opt/ltsp/images/self.img. The next time, if the user doesn't provide an arch, I'd like it to default to `self` again, so maybe --arch=self makes more sense...
17:28
On a related subject, at some point we'll also add code for exporting a .vdi or .qcow or other image. One idea is to grow a very large set of parameters; another is to consider all of them "arches" (since that's the parameter name, otherwise we could just call them "image names"), and to have .conf file sections that describe where they are, how they can be mounted etc.
17:28
So I guess I'm proposing that "self" and "myvboximage" and "myqemuimage" can all be considered "arches", so that after they're generated once, ltsp-update-image defaults to them in the future, if no other chroot exists...
17:30staffencasa has joined IRC (staffencasa!~staffenca@128.193.8.220)
17:31
<||cw>
alkisg: but then you'd need a vboximgx32 and vboximgx64
17:31
<alkisg>
||cw: no, the local sysadmin would create a .conf file that would describe where it is and how to mount it
17:32
<||cw>
imo, arch should match up with distro arch
17:32
<alkisg>
So he can name it myvboximage and it would be 32bit or 64bit or arm or whatever he wants
17:32
<||cw>
ah I see, so local arch overrides, that would be ok
17:32
<alkisg>
In most ltsp-* commands, "arch" is what we call the chroot name
17:32
So --arch=fati386 is a usual case
17:33
...and of course fat isn't really an arch, it's just a chroot name

for ltsp-update-image currently, --arch is used both for the source (/opt/ltsp/i386) and the destination (/opt/ltsp/images/i386.img)
17:41
<alkisg>
True, but we need something more now, (e.g. from / to /opt/ltsp/images/self.img, from /home/teacher/my.vdi to /opt/ltsp/images/vbox.img...), do you think it's better expressed by [arch] configuration sections, or by possibly many new ltsp-update-image parameters?

The LTSP code is maintained on launchpad, there's nothing recent in sourceforge except for the mailing list

vagrantc: is debian live considered a supported installation method? I was thinking about deploying debian in a few schools here as a test drive, because some teachers weren't really satisfied with unity etc, and debian live would be closer to the installation method they already know...
18:29
<vagrantc>
alkisg: should work ... dunno what you mean aboutt supportted?
18:30
<alkisg>
E.g. if someone goes in #debian and says that he uses sidux, they'll respond "go to #sidux", even if they use the same repositories
18:31
...aptosid or whatever its name is now
18:38
<vagrantc>
alkisg: well, debian-live is an official debian project, though they might redirect you to #debian-live if it's something specific to the live environment, live iinstaller, etc.
18:38
<alkisg>
The "official" part sounds reassuring :)
18:39
<vagrantc>
there are (were?) at least two ways to install from debian-live ... one that was basically running the standard debian-installer from a live environment, and another that just install the live image you were running (kind of like your ltsp-pnp idea in reverse)

Hi I'm experiencing jerky mouse scrolling on my terminals ( ubuntu 12.04 lts ) and I found a reference to a configuration option in lts.conf, but in lts.conf doesn't seem to exist anymore. So where would be the best for me to set a value that could fix this?
21:46
<dead_inside>
what do you mean lts.conf doesn't exist anymore?
21:46

ok is there an lts.conf generator because the page i'm looking at is for ltsp 4.1 and has a ton of options and i only need one
21:49
http://www.opensubscriber.com/message/ltsp-discuss@lists.sourceforge.net/4193267.html
21:49
X_MOUSE_RESOLUTION = 400 seems to be the fix
21:51
<||cw>
fuzai: I htink everything in lts.conf is optional, so if you find a sample, just remove what you don't want
21:51
<fuzai>
ok cool thank you
21:52
Did any of you need to do anything to smooth out the mouse scroll wheel for your clients?
