Hi everybody
12:37
Does anyone have experiences with Fujitsu Desktop PCs?
12:38

The LTSP network boot seems not to work with our Fujitsus that use Intel Boot Agent v1.3.72
12:40
The server runs correctly, cause every other Computer we have can boot via network
12:42
<der_baer`>
svenM: if it does not support booting over network (check the bios boot settings)LTSP wont work
12:42
<svenM>
I did an upgrade of the server this morning, before we ran edubuntu 10.something and now 12.04.3 LTS
12:43
In the old version, everything went fine

12:45
<svenM>
yes

after the upgrade, not every PC started over the network anymore
12:45
Common feature: Fujitsus with Intel Boot Agent GE v1.3.72
12:48
<der_baer`>
svenM: mm I dont this Intel Boot Agent but if it supports PXE everything shut be fine, what does the bios say if you try to boot the PC?
12:49
<svenM>
Last line before it got stuck is "Trying to load: pxelinux.cfg/default OK"
12:49
And then I see this flashing dash...
12:53
BTW: the PCs are no legacy devices, they are pretty new with i7 and so on
12:54
<der_baer`>
mmm ok so pxe is working, maybe you find somethings in the logsfiles of the server (could be an nbd-server fail) but since it is working for the other PCs I'm not so shure about that. did you get the busybox if you hit crtl-c?
12:56
<svenM>
I will check
12:57

I think we're not communicating very well
14:31
How did you try 2.6 in 12.04?

Maybe you're just copying older kernels from older ubuntu versions, with older and incompatible initramfs's...

That is true

That doesn't have any chance to work at all

Good morning,

I have got ubuntu-12.04.3-alternate-i386 install, thinserver, and thinclietns working very nicely at our University TFDL library, we are very happy. However, we still need to rotate/set orientation of the thinclients desktop to portrait or vertical.
15:52
I have carefully followed the instruction here to rotate/set orientation but the thinclients do not seem to apply any of the configuration (I see no changes on thinclients) - http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/precise/man5/lts.conf.5.html#contenttoc10

<Zaphoid>
Having an odd issue. I need my ltsp thick clients to have different DNS settings then the ltsp host. I thought changing it in /opt/ltsp/amd64/etc/resolv.conf and rebuilding the image would be enough, but it doesn't seem to be taking.
19:56
Using ubuntu 12.04
19:59
<vagrantc>
it probably uses resolvconf?
19:59
Zaphoid: you should be able to configure it with DNS_SERVER* in lts.conf
20:00
<Zaphoid>
Ah, nifty. OK
20:00
<vagrantc>
Zaphoid: it's also documented in the lts.conf manpage
20:01
<Zaphoid>
Related to lts.conf, it seems the tftp lts.conf is ignored and only the local is read. Is this supposed to be?
20:02
<alkisg>
Nope. Pastebin your /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/*/lts.conf to pastebin, and mention if * is amd64 or i386
20:02
<vagrantc>
is it attempting to download lts.conf from the right server? i.e. your LTSP server vs. a router on the network?
20:02
<Zaphoid>
vagrantc: That is possible. I don't know how to tell that.
20:03
<vagrantc>
and what alkisg said
20:03
<Zaphoid>
alkisg: amd64 http://pastebin.com/RxFqGZA1
20:05
<alkisg>
Zaphoid: can you describe your dhcpd setup?
20:05
E.g. 2 nic, isc-dhcp on the ltsp server...
20:05
<Zaphoid>
dhcpd is running on a separate server.
20:05
ltsp server is a virtual guest running tftp/ltsp/etc
20:06
1 nic
20:06
I have to add IPAPPEND 3 to the pxelinux.cfg/default for it to fully boot
20:07
<alkisg>
OK, symlink $TFTP/ltsp/amd64 to $TFTP/ltsp/i386
20:08
er, the other way around
20:08
...because in your case it's searching i386 for lts.conf
20:08
<Zaphoid>
I wondered if that was the case. For some reason just symlinking didn't enter my mind.
20:09
<alkisg>
Note that symlinks must be relative due to tftpd-hpa
20:09
cd /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp; sudo ln -s amd64 i386
20:09
<Zaphoid>
Thanks for the reminder.
20:10
I'll let you know in a second if it worked.
20:11
Assuming several things
20:13
Yes on both accounts. That fixed the lts.conf (wish I had tried that earlier, would have saved me a CRAPTON of rebuilding client time)
20:13
And I know it fixed the lts.conf since the DNS changes I made were in that lts.conf, and they were implemented
20:13
So sweet

win32-loader: win32-loader.exe can be used to add a "PXE - Network boot" option to the Windows boot manager. It's developed for Debian and it uses gPXE/iPXE for the network booting. You can download a binary from http://ftp.debian.org/debian/tools/win32-loader/unstable/ (if someone could write a wiki page for that it'd be great, a Greek page you can translate as a starting point is available at (1 more message)
