I'm trying to `ltsp-build-client --dist wheezy` on Ubuntu Server 12.04 and I get "chroot: failed to run command `locale-gen': No such file or directory".
11:34
Also it gives the same error with --dist squeeze.
11:36
<alkisg>
That's to test the graphics driver?
11:37
<ncom0pl>
Yeah, still...
11:37
<alkisg>
Why not test live CDs instead of trying via LTSP?
11:39Fenuks has left IRC (Fenuks!~Fenuks@5.128.82.13, Ping timeout: 272 seconds)

<ncom0pl>
I'm not sure if a regular live CD would boot with 128MB RAM and no swap anyway.
11:41PhoenixSTF has joined IRC (PhoenixSTF!~rudi@78.29.154.124)
11:41
<alkisg>
Sure, LXDE boots with 128 and without swap. If needed, you can have a usb stick for swap.
11:42
About the locale-gen part, I can't really comment, I haven't used ltsp-build-client in years... it sounds like some script in incompatible between debian/ubuntu
11:44
<ncom0pl>
Also, I've managed to build a working setup on Ubuntu 8.04, but I have no idea how to transfer that to my 12.04 server and make it use NFS instead of NBD. vagrantc told me yesterday 8.04->12.04 would be massively incompatible, and was probably right...
11:45
<alkisg>
NBD and squashfs are incompatible, yup, but NFS, why?
11:45
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/LTSPWithoutNFS
11:46
I think that page mentions how to switch to AND from NFS in such old ubuntu versions...
11:46
<ncom0pl>
He was talking about the releases in general and not NFS I guess.
11:46
<alkisg>
Getting the most recent disto that _works_ for your hardware is a good idea, sure
11:46
I don't think anyone objects there
11:48
<ncom0pl>
Yup, agreed.
11:48
It's not like I'm trying older stuff just because I fancy so.
11:49
<alkisg>
I mean, if you discover that wheezy works, you should use that instead of 8.04
11:49
<ncom0pl>
Of course.
11:49
<alkisg>
It's up to you to decide how much distro bisection you want to do... :)
11:50
You can also install distros in a USB stick and boot from that
11:50
E.g. sudo kvm -m 512 -hda /dev/sdb -cdrom wheezy-lxde.iso
11:51
<ncom0pl>
I'll probably only try debian-based with different releases, I have some basic knowledge of how to use it and with other distros I'd probably be completely lost...
11:52
I just hope I don't get banned here soon for asking these questions one after another :P.
11:53
Ok, so I'll try with live cds, I've got a usb stick with a swap partition set up, I just hope it mounts it automatically.
11:54
<alkisg>
Does the client have a cdrom drive?
11:54
<ncom0pl>
No, but it boots USB with no problem.

19:39
you'll need to specify VENDOR=Debian
19:40
VENDOR=Debian ltsp-build-client --foo --bar --etc
19:40
<ncom0pl>
I did, before I did this it crashed on locale-gen
19:41

19:42
<vagrantc>
did you quote the arguments to --mirror?
19:43
and is it loading plugins from Debian or Ubuntu dirs?

Now I'm getting "cp: cannot stat `/tmp/tmp.DdxuJOCTrE/boot/.': No such file or directory" while building a wheezy client on ubuntu 12.04.

And I'm getting that after

20:37
Updating /var/lib/tftpboot directories for chroot: jaunty-i386
20:38
The thing is the jaunty-i386 chroot was also malfunctioned and I thought I deleted all it's files...how do I get rid of that?
20:38
<bennabiy>
vagrantc: You here?
20:45
<alkisg>
ncom0pl: it's much easier if you mv /opt/ltsp to /opt/ltsp.bak, and have only one chroot in /opt/ltsp/i386
20:45
Otherwise, delete the jaunty chroot under /opt/ltsp....
20:49
vagrantc: Hello! LTSP 5.5 breaks ltsp-pnp, could you release a point version some time in the future?
20:49
<ncom0pl>
alkisg: I did delete the chroot under /opt/ltsp, yet the above message still appears while building a wheezy chroot...
20:49
<alkisg>
ncom0pl: so now what directories do you have under /opt/ltsp ?
20:50
And, what images under /opt/ltsp/images?
20:50
<ncom0pl>
Okay, I did not delete the one under images.
20:51
<alkisg>
mv /opt/ltsp is the easiest way around all those :)

alkisg-todo: (#1) upload fixed nbd-server package in the PPA, or (#2) LDM password hash, or (#3) Check ltsp bugs in debian.org, or (#4) ltsp-config aoe (for swap too), or (#5) Hooks for running scripts on these phases: INITRD/INIT/RC/DM/AUTH/LOGIN/SESSION/PERIODIC/LOGOUT/SHUTDOWN
20:52
<alkisg>
Nope those can wait for later...
20:52
<vagrantc>
aoe isn't doing any better for you?
20:52
<alkisg>
It's fine, but we don't have ltsp-config for it
20:53
And we don't have swap support either
20:53
<vagrantc>
bennabiy: barely here
20:53
bennabiy: got more mint fixes?
21:04
<alkisg>
vagrantc: suppose ldm recommends: ldm-theme, and ldm-theme is a virtual package, provided e.g. by ldm-ubuntu-theme, which depends: ubuntu-desktop, or by ldm-xubuntu-theme, which depends: xubuntu-desktop.
21:04
Question, if we did it that ^ way (I haven't checked how we do it currently), when someone installs ldm in ubuntu, would apt be smart enough to select ldm-ubuntu-theme because it wouldn't require any additional packages, while ldm-xubuntu-theme would require xubuntu-desktop to be installed?
