I am trying to authenticate ltsp clients with samba4 ad users. User session closes after successful login. Does anyone know solution for this?

Installed a new Trusty Tahr server, but some realtek clients only get ipv6 and drop into busybox. Typing 'exit' at the busybox prompt lets them boot successfully. This didn't happen on 10.04. Ideas?

Chap: ltsp in 14.04 is buggy, do file a bug report, maybe stgraber will include the bug fix for the final release even though it's only solved upstream and not yet in debian

(that's because debian doesn't use udhcpc, it's mostly ubuntu-specific anyway...)

<marcodinis>
Hi! I'm configuring a LTSP server. Without autologin on the client eveything works fine, however with autologin the X will crash as soon as press the first key on the keyboard
09:33
<alkisg>
distro/version?
09:33
<marcodinis>
CentOS 6.5
09:35
<alkisg>
Any key, or specifically "enter"?
09:35
E.g. if you press "C", does it crash?
09:36
<marcodinis>
yes. any key
09:36
<alkisg>
Does CentOS use plymouth, the boot splash screen?
09:38
<marcodinis>
I removed the 'quiet' from the boot command line
09:39
<alkisg>
OK, but you didn't answer the question
09:39
<marcodinis>
the plymouth is installed, but only text is shown on boot up
09:40
<alkisg>
I'm asking because I've seen a similar bug in Ubuntu, caused by plymouth. And plymouth was running even though "quiet splash" was not specified.
09:40
Plymouth was doing some weird things with the VTs, mis-redirecting the input and causing xorg to crash
09:41
<marcodinis>
I'll try to remove the plymouth and try to boot again
09:41
<alkisg>
marcodinis: in Ubuntu, it goes inside the initramfs
09:41
So even if you remove it from the chroot, if you don't update the initramfs and copy it to TFTP, it still runs
09:42
<marcodinis>
err... it'll remove dracut, dracut-kernel, kexec-tools
09:42freedomrun has left IRC (freedomrun!~freedomru@unaffiliated/freedomrun, Quit: So long and thanks for all the fish.)
09:45
<alkisg>
Another thing to try, is to autologin with the "xterm" session, which is very light, to ensure it's not related to compositing etc
09:46
And, you could also try with GUESTLOGIN, to see if it also happens when you login using the mouse, without using the keyboard
09:49
<marcodinis>
Ok, I'm having problems trying to remove plymouth, so I'll try those two suggestions first
09:50
With xterm works fine
09:51
The session I was using is 'openbox-session'
09:51
<alkisg>
Launch your session from that xterm
09:51
cat /usr/share/xsessions/....desktop,
09:51
and use the Exec line from there
09:51
<marcodinis>
It works
09:52
no crash
09:53
<alkisg>
What's your lts.conf like?

09:56
<alkisg>
You autologin/login as root?
09:56
<marcodinis>
Yes
09:57
<alkisg>
That doesn't sound appropriate... :) Can you try with some non-root user?
09:59
<marcodinis>
It crashes too
10:01
I don't think it's relevant, but I'm using virtual machines
10:09
"Found" the problem. Reverted to default openbox configuration (rc.xml) and it works now. Thanks alkisg :)

Chap_: that took me 4 days to solve :-/

Zoiks and I sent credit the wrong way.

So sorry.

Yeah it was odd. I thought it was related to ipv6 b/c in busybox it looked like ipv6 only
20:36

stgraber published the upstream changes into ubuntu, he also deserves credits...
20:36
<Chap_>
but I think the clients are ipv6-only now?
20:36
(upgrading from 10.04 so it's been awhile since I've been bleeding edge)

I don't think so, no. They usually don't even get an ipv6 address...

20:39
<Chap_>
Yes we're finding that ;)
20:40
But thankfully new atom clients are under 150 so woOWO!
20:40* alkisg doesn't like atoms, they don't make good ltsp fat clients...
20:41
<Chap_>
We're going to get stable and then look at a good fat box for google hangouts/skype with webcams.
20:42
Do you know the status of cd/dvd burning using local devices or fat clients? I've read conflicting reports.
20:42
<alkisg>
I think CPU-wise, one needs at least 1000 score at http://cpubenchmark.net/common_cpus.html for a client nowadays, and at least 2000 for a server
20:43
LTSP fat clients are pretty much the same as if you installed the OS locally, so everything should work fine
20:43
Localapps in theory also work fine, the integration sometimes lacks a bit...
20:43
<Chap_>
Dig it.
20:43
<alkisg>
Local devs on thin clients don't work too well though
20:44
<Chap_>
Ah
20:44

Everything that can work over ltspfs, does, but cameras, dvdrw devices etc, need localapps or fat clients
