<SysadmOFF>
good morning gents

<alkisg>
Heya

<fiesh>
once upon a time, there was an ltsp-5.4.4.tar.xz -- is there any chance to get it back, or a similar version?
13:10
it was the source code of ltsp-server
13:10
like this https://launchpad.net/ltsp/ltsp-trunk/5.4.4/+download/ltsp-5.4.4.tar.xz
13:14
ah https://git.launchpad.net/ltsp has a 5.4.4 tag :)
13:23
<alkisg>
There are also some .tar.xz there: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/l/ltsp/
13:23
...but they'll probably get removed once 18.04 stops being supported
13:23
<fiesh>
ah thanks -- I'll better switch mit ebuild to git I think
13:23
<ABIXadamjurkiewi>
fiesh: better try with new Ubuntu: https://github.com/abixadamj/free-serwer
13:24
<fiesh>
ABIXadamjurkiewi: don't think that's gonna help me
13:24
<ABIXadamjurkiewi>
snap removed, firefox, ms-edge as deb
13:25
it is just for creating fresh install
13:26
<alkisg>
fiesh is installing the old ltsp 5 in gentoo
13:26
He hasn't migrated to the new ltsp yet
13:26
<ABIXadamjurkiewi>
ok....
13:29
<alkisg>
ABIX adam.jurkiewicz: btw, shouldn't that be "server" instead of "serwer"?
13:29
<ABIXadamjurkiewi>
O yes, serwer is in Polish language
13:29
<alkisg>
👍️
13:30
<fiesh>
lol I thought it was a pun with server and sewer
13:30
<ABIXadamjurkiewi>
but I think i will leave it as is... because this is project with little users....
13:31
I made only about 30 installations in Poland in last 10 years
13:32
teachers and authorities loves Microsoft in Poland
13:47
<fiesh>
beautiful, costs more and sucks -- but it's not real money, it's just taxpayer money

<SysadmOFF>
just want to inform you that i have copied files from tgz into same ubuntu and started. As result - A lot of failed starrtings of processes and mounts with aufs dependency. Few files should be removed or commented out  and i have already booted in X.  Quite old image and very ugly, but already implemented ldap and sshfs and few additional things
14:01
which can help me in future. I Decided to make a new fresh live image=)   But im happy because of issue resolved somehow=)  Thanks for help!
14:25
<alkisg>
LDAP in the old LTSP doesn't work the same way as in the new LTSP; it's a good thing you decided to start fresh

<SysadmOFF>
quick question:
18:25
PRE_INITRD_BOTTOM_IMAGE_TO_RAM="dd if=/root/images/x86_64.img of=/dev/null &"
18:25
is this path should be changed?
18:34
and another one - just created img from linux mint with user bcadmin, now im not able to login with that user
18:34
strange
18:44
<alkisg>
The user accounts come from the server, not the image
18:44
You can have 100 images, they will all use the server accounts
18:45
Add a user account on the server, then run ltsp initrd to add it to ltsp.img, then reboot the client

<SysadmOFF>
i understand
19:58
i have installed mint21, and ltsp also there. so users are identical
19:59
but now i have moved img with ltsp, initrd,vmlinuz to FOG server, which im using for deploying IPXE images
20:00
so image succesfully started but not login. I have noted that if i put wrong username - i have a mesagge user not exist
20:02ricotz has left IRC (ricotz!~ricotz@ubuntu/member/ricotz, Quit: Leaving)
20:03
<SysadmOFF>
but if login is valid - it shows me "Login incorrect"
20:04
no matter is password valid or not.Basicaly it should be valid , because paswrd the same as login )) bcadmin:bcadmin
20:09
Strange, but looks like error message is not "Login incorrect" , but ".Login incorrect. "  --with dots
20:11
<vagrantc>
you need to run "ltsp initrd" on the server that is hosting the images
20:18
<SysadmOFF>
there is no ltsp installed
20:19
after each attempt to login with bcadmin i have
20:19
Aug 17 23:18:14 fog sshd[674466]: Connection closed by 10.0.22.168 port 43086 [preauth]
20:19
in fog server which hosted ltsp image
20:20
looks like nfs trying to mount drive
20:21
<vagrantc>
you'll need some way of conveying account information to the image, which is normally done in the initrd ltsp.img
20:22
you could use some other system, such as LDAP, but that is left for you to figure out
20:22
<SysadmOFF>
i see, but anyway the same user with same credentials should exist on FOG server, because IPXE img trying to login to NFS with credentials
20:22
<vagrantc>
what do you mean "login to NFS" ? normally, ltsp uses unauthenticated NFS
20:23
<SysadmOFF>
yes, LDAP will be the best choice. And i will work on this. Do you have some good MAN for this?
20:23
<vagrantc>
no, that is what i meant by "left for you to figure out." :)
20:23
<SysadmOFF>
unauthenticated? strange, so why im getting "Connection closed by 10.0.22.168 port 43086 [preauth]"
20:23
168 - ip of deployed live MINT
20:24
and logs im reading on FOG server
20:24
<vagrantc>
ssh connection, maybe?
20:24
<SysadmOFF>
each attempt to login via X?
20:24
how it can be
20:24
if NFS is unauthenticated
20:24
<vagrantc>
NFS is just the filesystem
20:25
although sshfs is used as a filesystem for home directories by default ...
20:25
unless you configure it to use something else
20:25
<SysadmOFF>
yes, thats what i mean) sorry
20:25
kernel http://${fog-ip}/img/mint21xfce//vmlinuz initrd=http://${fog-ip}/img/mint21xfce/ltsp.img initrd=http://${fog-ip}/img/mint21xfce/initrd.img root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=${fog-ip}:/images/ ltsp.image=mint21xfce/min21xfce.img loop.max_part=9
20:25
initrd http://${fog-ip}/img/mint21xfce/ltsp.img
20:25
initrd http://${fog-ip}/img/mint21xfce/initrd.img
20:25
boot || goto MENU
20:25
nfsroot
20:26
<vagrantc>
yes, the rootfs is unauthenticate
20:26
d
20:26
although technically, the rootfs is a loop-mounted image where the image is stored on an NFS mount
20:27
<SysadmOFF>
got it
20:27
so i need to have the same account on FOG as on LIVE MINT?
20:27
<vagrantc>
well, actually, it's even more complicated than that, but hopefully we don't have to go there :)
20:27
<SysadmOFF>
ahaha)
20:27
i hope we will not
20:28
ideally i want to boot LIVE OS and users will authenticate via LDAP
20:28
<vagrantc>
if you have the same accounts with the same credentials ... it *should* work ... though i *think* they need to have matching userid, groupid, groups, homedir, etc.
20:29
<SysadmOFF>
doesnt work with the same account names and pasword. Looks like should be more identical info =(
20:29
<vagrantc>
or it's not logging into the server you think it is
20:29
<SysadmOFF>
not so easy as i thought few weeks ago=(
20:29
<vagrantc>
or you don't have ssh configured to allow sshfs ... or ...
20:30
using it the way it is designed is pretty easy.
20:30
it doesn't get in the way of doing more fancy things, but ... you have to know what you're doing pretty solidly. :)
20:31
<SysadmOFF>
is it best option to do like this?
20:31
1.Install MINT,
20:31
2. install LTSP
20:31
3. setup LDAP
20:31
4 MASK in LTSP
20:31
5. TEST ?
20:31
))
20:31
<vagrantc>
i don't know what you mean
20:32
<SysadmOFF>
i mean best choice to get working live OS with ldap auth
20:32
<vagrantc>
MASK ?
20:32
<SysadmOFF>
mask ldap and other services
20:32* vagrantc shrugs
20:33
<SysadmOFF>
ok OK)
20:33
<alkisg>
Install mint, ltsp, configure sssd, run ltsp image, done
20:33
<SysadmOFF>
my english not so good, so maybe im writing strange things))
20:33
alkisg , exactly!)
20:34
<vagrantc>
and then ... copy over to other server and see what breaks still :)
20:34
<SysadmOFF>
i see,you are not so optimistic ))
20:34
@al
20:34
alkisg greetings to you from CY
20:36
thanks to all of you. will try testing and trying to not to bite my own tail
20:42
<vagrantc>
good luck!
