<gdi2k>
greetings. I'm having trouble getting the correct resolution on my terminal. I suspect I need to have the nvidia module installed to make it work (I've never got correct resolution working with nv). so, how would I go about installing the nvidia module for the clients? (ubuntu edgy). Do I have to chroot in and install that way or something? Can't find much info on it...
01:52
It seems that no matter what I put in the [Default] section of my lts.conf, it gets ignored by the clients. How can I tell if the clients are using lts.conf to get config info at all - to me it seems that the file is being completely ignored...

<gdi2k>
sorry, I'm a ubuntu user myself. any idea why my lts.conf might be being ignored? My clients seem oblivious to, regardless what I put in there...

The helps says PCI cards should be auto-detected by the LTSP kernel. But what if I have an on-board networkscard on my Nforce4 motherboard?

Hi, all :) Have you configured Local printers or scanners in LTSP-5?
09:35
I followed this guide: http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/Scanners, but no success

<Fosforo>
there is a way to automagically let users login based on MAC address ?
22:21
<sbalneav>
Not easily, no
22:23
<vagrantc>
well, depends on what you mean.
22:23
Fosforo: you mean automatically log in?
22:24
Fosforo: like, as soon as a particular terminal boots, it logs in with a particular user?
22:36
i seem to recall being able to configure xdm to autologin based on ip, so if you configure static ip in dhcpd, you'd indirectly have it mac based.
22:36
also wrote hooks to sdm/xdm to only allow certain logins based on mac address.
22:40
<mistik1>
vagrantc: you got to teach me how to write python GUIs
22:40
<vagrantc>
mistik1: i'd have to learn how first :)
22:40
<mistik1>
lol
22:41
I think I may have fixed a long running issue with Xdialog today
22:41
<vagrantc>
which, wouldn't be such a bad idea... ogra_ was supposedly rewriting ldm to use some new GUI backends ... cairo ?
22:41
i should probably get in on that
22:41
<mistik1>
Can you imagine a program called [X]dialog that does not report itself to the window manager AS a dialog
22:42
<vagrantc>
heh
22:42* mistik1 made a patch today that fixed that little issue
22:42
<mistik1>
at least with gtk2 anyway
22:43
It would take a bit more effort to do it on the gtk1x side
22:43
<vagrantc>
what still runs gtk1 ?
22:43
<mistik1>
I cant believe the author would not add that one stinkin line of code
22:43
He even defended not doing it
22:44
Do you know anyone that uses Xdialog for a full screen program
22:45
I'm going to send the patch upstream in hopes that he'll even look at it
22:45
If not his loss
23:02
<jammcq>
jeez, been quiet all day long
23:02
I turn away for a few minutes, and it's like a party in here
23:04
<mistik1>
hehe
23:11* vagrantc cracks open a wine bottle
23:12
<Fosforo>
vagrantc: sorry for the delay
23:12
<vagrantc>
Fosforo: no apologies needed :)
23:12
<Fosforo>
vagrantc: :-)
23:12
vagrantc: yes. automatically login an user in X, based on mac / ip
23:13
vagrantc: i want to made things easier to these people (xpde + gdm) - automatically login
23:14
vagrantc: they only have saw redmond things in their entire life
23:15
<vagrantc>
i haven't tried that sor of thing since 2001 or so, so my memories a little rusty
23:15
whenever i wrote sdm, actually.
23:16
<Fosforo>

23:17
<Fosforo>
hmmm great !
23:17
good security pratices...
23:18
<vagrantc>
Fosforo: so ... do you want to be able to specify the user and automatically log in, or just have a specific login for each thin-client?
23:19
<Fosforo>
Fosforo: automatically login
23:19
vagrantc:
23:19
vagrantc: a specific login for each thin client i think is set at dhcp3.conf
23:20
vagrantc: dhcp3/dhcpd.conf
23:21
<vagrantc>
sure
23:22
well... probably no need to have gdm then, you can just configure xdm to pop up a login whenever the client connects to it
23:23
<Fosforo>
vagrantc: i thought about no popups... just the xp-like interface and the software they used to work being displayed
23:25
hmm maybe i found it

23:26* vagrantc has little to no familiarity with xp

vagrantc: xpde interface...
23:29
<vagrantc>
even less familiarity with that
23:29
anyways ... yeah, the gdm stuff will probably work for you.
23:34
<Fosforo>
vagrantc: after some tests i'll post result here
23:34
thnx man
