I noticed recently using zypper on suse, that its package names are quite nice too
I dont know what happened to ubuntu
johnny: I have 2.6.6 installed now
i don't know.. i find gentoo's package naming much better than ubuntu
gentoo has slots
i much prefer it
yeah... something went wrong there with ubuntu...
so... u have a server up?
I have ejabberd installed here if u dont
sure.. but what do we need a server for?
what's your jid?
you should be on my roster anyways :)
well fuck a duck... of course I dont have libabiword compiled into it
so no sharing shows up
isn't there a package for the jabber support?
pretty sure that's all i did on my gf's comptuer.. i see the collaboration menu on hers
well it was there for 2.6.4
i didn't try it myself tho.. i just wanted to see if it worked or not
just not for 2.6.6 since I installed that from source to have the latest version
next time.. build a dep.. or look for a ppa
there is not ppa
ubuntu is behind on that one too
|00:08||cyberorg has quit IRC|
ah, stupid shit... even Jaunty has 2.6.4-5
ah... I just needed --enable-libabiword when configuring

wow, installing abiword from source on ubuntu is no joke...
Ryan52: if you had not pushed yet, then I personally uncommit instead of resort to trickery.
well, at least if u want support with its collaboration and spelling modules
Ryan52: (referring to reverting changes in bzr)
Ryan52: if you already pushed there is no going back, just commit new changes and march forward
Ryan52: I'm not worried about F-10's spec being proper for devel
Ryan52: I'm extremely careful about maintaining compat
Ryan52: and the fedora conditional was an earlier aborted attempt of a RHEL5 backport
okay, that's what I had (sort of) thought, just wanted to make sure.
no wonder no one packaged this up for sugar... it takes forever to get all the deps out
nubae, aren't packagers supposed to take care of that?
you could have just built a package based off the most recent ubuntu package and up the versions
yeah but supposedly they havent for 1.5 years now
think it was a security thing
anyway, I'm happy Im doing it now, cause then I can at least get sugar working 100%
even though it is a bit of a waste of time
i have to try to configure, then search for the dep, then install the -dev of it, then scroll up, look again, etc etc
and then move to to the plugins and extras directories and do the same there
its a total mess
you could have just grepped out from the configure.ac
unless it was lying..
well its just that its all over the place
its easier for me to do it this way methodically
at least you'd get the list all together..
yeah, but then maybe miss something or whatever...
but yes you are right, it would probably be faster
this is my configure line just for the plugins:
./configure --enable-libabiword --with-abiword=../abiword-2.6.6 --prefix=/home/n--disable-all --enable-abicollab --with-abicollab-service-backend --enable-abimathview --enable-abicommand --enable-loadbindings --enable-presentation --enable-OpenDocument --prefix=/home/nubae
hmmm... sugarb bug tracker has a nice little system, connected to twitter, so that if u follow it, it will tweet the bugs to you via msn/gtalk to your account
could do that for ltsp too
bot could then paste them to the channel
|01:07||alkisg has joined #ltsp|
johnny: welp... so now everything is installed, all plugins and everything, but still no collaboration menu when I open it up...
try adding --enable-all ?
oh.. you have --disable-all ?
thats whats in the docs...
ah never mind, found it
u have to install the plugins afterwards from a weird directory that it installs them too
but now I get this on the collaborate menu: Could not load glade file '/usr/local/share/abiword-2.6/glade/ap_UnixDialog_CollaborationAccounts.glade'.

i have to setup an tlsp server but there's 1 windows vista pc that also needs connection to the ltsp server, you know of a windows client i can use, it must be very simple
which package has pgdb in ubuntu? "ImportError: No module named pgdb"
it does not exist on any rpm distro
use rpmfind.net maybe you find a package there
nightrid3r, i did http://rpm.pbone.net/ checked all
form ubuntu ----> File pgdb found in courier-doc, courier-maildrop, maildrop, python-pygresql
python-pygresql sounds more like it
you can use !find in #ubuntu to look for files in packages

Hello all, looking for some help with using ELO touchscreen on LTSP5(ubuntu8.10), thank you
Phille: USB or serial?
Serial, I set the X_TOUCH_DEVICE to the correct port, but no reaction from the touch
on ltsp.org I found this option : X_TOUCH_DEVICE, but it is not documented on what values to set. I'm not sure if that param is needed or not?
Phille: do this:
sudo chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 dpkg -l |grep elographics
if that returns nothing, you should first do:
Ok, done that now. (I feel like newbie though I've been using Ubuntu for a long time now...)
sudo chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-elographics
indeed, no return from the chroot ... command
and then: sudo ltsp-update-image
after the image rebuilds, add to lts.conf:
that should at least get you working
then, you can add calibration parameters
note: if you do not have lts.conf, make one in: /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf
Man, thanks a lot! I don't understand why this stuff isn't documented more detailed on the web.
format is ini format
I've been searching for weeks for a guide or some steps to follow
Phille: well, there are a lot of lts.conf params to tweak things, and the docs are lagging a bit
especially for touchscreens
especially since the touchscreen support may likely change with the changes in Xorg and evdev and such
Ok, that is true
do you have a link were to find more info on the chroot ... install .. command you sent me,
I'm curious about what other modules and such I can get working with the thin clients
well, your chroot is simply a minimal ubuntu, using all the same ubuntu packages as your server
you can add any package into the chroot, simply by chroot'ing into it and using all the usual commands
ie, as soon as you: sudo chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 you are in the chroot environemnt
and can apt-get update, apt-get install, etc
then, after you exit the chroot, you can reroll the image sent to the client with ltsp-update-image
that stuff is documented well, I think
Gadi: "ubuntu" is a Debian based GNU/Linux distrubution that includes a Ubuntu specific version of LTSP. It can be found at http://www.ubuntulinux.org. to install ltsp on ubuntu: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/LTSPQuickInstall
wow, that is a fun toy :) thank you so much for that info
Gadi: "docs" is For the most current documentation, see http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/LtspDocumentationUpstream
I did realize that probably the touch driver was missing, but had no idea on how or what to try
LTSP is a unique project, as we are worked on by reps of most major distros
and some things are distro-specific, while others are common
I came from ltsp 4.2 about two years ago, installed that in my distro and is working fine until now.
now I'm testing the Ubuntu with LTSP integrated, up until now it was a lot easyer with LTSP already integrated into the distro
but then again, Ubuntu is new to me
what did you use before?
Thank you for the links, I'm copying a lot of info and links :)
with LTSP 4.2
but support for localdev was hard to get working,
suse has a sorta fork of ltsp called kiwi-ltsp
Gadi: "opensuse" is http://en.opensuse.org/LTSP
they basically use upstream stuff, but have their own commands for managing things
indeed, I also tried that, and was very handy with the iTalc tool, but somehow I got cought-up with Ubuntu
mainly because my colleagues pushed me :)
well, we are the UN here
so, feel free to pop in for help
Great! thank you so much for your help, you gave me a lot of info to try out!
indeed, Gadi rocks :p
have a great weekend btw!

sbalneav: how long ago did development on LTSP 4.2 stop?
3 or even 4 years
|11:10||spectra has joined #ltsp|
so roughly 2005?
ubuntu 5.10 was the first ubuntu release carrying ltsp5 ... when we started development on it 4.2 wasnt developed anymore
there was no overlap
when was that?
so end 2004, beginning of 2005
ubuntu version numbers are (200)Y.MM
|11:12||* Gadi seems to recall a period of overlap|
(so its easy to guess from that)
Gadi, i dont think there was 4.2 development after the sydney UDS
and 5.0 development started there
sydney was only 5.0?
jim did one kernel update for 4.2 about 6 months after the first ltsp5 release
possible thin clients?
last update 4.2 update 4 8/06
brief history on this page: http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/LTSP-42
etyack, right, that was the kernel update i was talking about
in oct 2005 the first 5.0 release came out
so, we really are talking end of 05 beginning of 06
so it was not 6 but 10 months after that when jim did the kernel security fix
Gadi, UDS was in april 05
there ltsp5 was specced and nobody worked on 4.x anymore
ogra: u remember the history from the ubuntu perspective
scott just had finished teh first ltspfs which was the last thing going into 4.2 before

nubae, how could anyone tell after only a picture ... there are no tech specs anywhere
who knows if it hasnt an ATOM CPU with the new pulsbo graphics chipset ... which is worse than nvidia
oh, I thought there were specs there too... sorry
for specs contact us :P
great marketing strategy :P
yah well, they're Indians
ogra: is pulsbo better than i945?
warren, if you accept having a fully closed driver, having to compile your own libdrm and the like, it saves a lot of power, yes
(oh and indeed the in kernel drm needs a rebuild of your kernel as well)
its worse than nvidia
intel only used pulsbo in MID like devices yet ... but netbooks will surely come
http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2008/08/compal_jax10_aigo_p8880_quick_review.html ... typical pulsbo device ... funnily it additionally has a closed touchscreen driver as well

|21:02||* Ryan52 still gets python tracebacks...|
on my completely rewritten thing to generate the file.
anybody willing to look at it? :)
Ryan52: Would you happen to know how to cat something to a device attached to a client?
|21:03||* Ryan52 tried the encode thing, but failed|
TheProf, add "SCREEN_10=shell" to lts.conf, reboot the thin client, and switch to virtual console 10. then do stuff there.
|21:05||* Ryan52 assumes you're doing it for debugging..|
Ryan52: ok. I've got the shell screen on the client. I seem to remember that not all the files are accessible from the thin client -- it seems to have only a subset of the files from the server
yes exactly for that.
yes, it's only the things in the chroot.
are you using nfs or nbd?
so i think it
is in /opt/i386, etc
so just "sudo cp /usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1000.dl /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1000.dl"
on the server.
and then you'll have access.
perfect. I will try it now. thank you!
Ryan52: It seems to be almost working! It accepted the firmware.
Just need to see if now that will make it print
|21:18||vagrantc has quit IRC|
Sheesh it's a MIRACLE!
Seriously. I was going nuts.
now i'm just printing because I can :)
this is wicked.
Ryan52: the solution was running that command from the client shell. Is there a way to do that automatically when the client boots each time?
lemme check if there's an ltsp way before I tell you the general way.
Thank you I appreciate it
okay, looks like there is not. so edit /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/local/bin/setup-printer with your editor of choice.
do you only have one system with a printer? or is there something disinguishing with this system?
(that way it only loads it on this thin client)
I've got it assigned to a specific thin client by mac and ip address
okay, so then just to be sure, add this to your lts.conf first:
I've got a [mac] entry for this client within lts.conf so I will append that line to it.
or, nevermind, that was stupid.
just add "RCFILE_00=/usr/local/bin/setup-printer" to that section.
OK. forgotten :)
no need for anything extra.
then go back into /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/local/bin/setup-printer and add whatever commands you ran manually.
and it should be ran on startup for that system.
hmm..my /opt/ltsp/i386/usr has no local under it
is there a file within that I can search for to see where it is?
you should have one...
but no, in this case you aren't editing a file.
you are creating one.
so just make the directories needed.
so I'll create the local/bin/ directories and create the setup-printer file
do I need to make the executable or any fancy permissions?
probably need to make it executable
sorry took a while to figure out how to make executable. I did a chmod -X setup-printer
in it are two lines -- a comment with a # in front and the cat command itself.
argh sorry, yes it was +x
you coulda just asked me how to do it :)
alright so now I reboot the client and test
can I see the script being run someplace?
or I'll just know if it prints which is good enough :)
Ryan52: Nope. Didn't run the command. I just tried to print and it didn't go. same as before. ran the command manually and it worked
let me just check if I made a mistake in the setup-printer file
this is the command in lts.conf
this is what is in the setup-printer file located at /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/local/bin
# File to run the cat firmware > usb printer for the computer lab HP LJ 1000
cat /usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1000.dl > /dev/usb/lp0
the file has the attributes 100755 root root

I think I might know the problem
|22:01||CaScAdE^FarAway has joined #ltsp|
Ryan52: Got it!
1) I was missing that !/bin/bash line at the top
|22:02||keithclark has quit IRC|
2) there was a sample file included in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/rc.d that lets you
run scripts at client boot.
|22:03||keithclark has joined #ltsp|
for ltsp specific stuff?
it has a file called sample that gave some steps. the same thing you said really
weird, I didn't know that existed.
only difference was it needed an RC number from 01 to 10
so I changed it to 01 and put the setup file in that directory.
but thank you
I may just have to print more to try it again it's so great.
