<nubae>
I noticed recently using zypper on suse, that its package names are quite nice too
00:00
I dont know what happened to ubuntu
00:02
johnny: I have 2.6.6 installed now
00:02
wanna play?
00:03
<johnny>
i don't know.. i find gentoo's package naming much better than ubuntu
00:03
gentoo has slots
00:03
or fedora
00:03
i much prefer it
00:04
<nubae>
yeah... something went wrong there with ubuntu...
00:04
so... u have a server up?
00:04
I have ejabberd installed here if u dont
00:04
<johnny>
sure.. but what do we need a server for?
00:04
what's your jid?
00:04
you should be on my roster anyways :)
00:05
<nubae>
well fuck a duck... of course I dont have libabiword compiled into it
00:05
so no sharing shows up
00:06
<johnny>
isn't there a package for the jabber support?
00:06
pretty sure that's all i did on my gf's comptuer.. i see the collaboration menu on hers
00:06
<nubae>
well it was there for 2.6.4
00:06
<johnny>
i didn't try it myself tho.. i just wanted to see if it worked or not
00:06
<nubae>
just not for 2.6.6 since I installed that from source to have the latest version
00:07
<johnny>
next time.. build a dep.. or look for a ppa
00:07
s/dep/dev/
00:07
err deb
00:07
<nubae>
there is not ppa
00:07
for 2.6.6
00:08
ubuntu is behind on that one too
00:08cyberorg has quit IRC

<nubae>
ah, stupid shit... even Jaunty has 2.6.4-5
00:11
ah... I just needed --enable-libabiword when configuring

<nubae>
wow, installing abiword from source on ubuntu is no joke...
00:36
<warren>
Ryan52: if you had not pushed yet, then I personally uncommit instead of resort to trickery.
00:36
<nubae>
well, at least if u want support with its collaboration and spelling modules
00:37
<warren>
Ryan52: (referring to reverting changes in bzr)
00:37
<Ryan52>
yes
00:37
<warren>
Ryan52: if you already pushed there is no going back, just commit new changes and march forward
00:38
Ryan52: I'm not worried about F-10's spec being proper for devel
00:38
Ryan52: I'm extremely careful about maintaining compat
00:38
Ryan52: and the fedora conditional was an earlier aborted attempt of a RHEL5 backport
00:39
<Ryan52>
okay, that's what I had (sort of) thought, just wanted to make sure.
00:51
<nubae>
no wonder no one packaged this up for sugar... it takes forever to get all the deps out
00:56
<johnny>
nubae, aren't packagers supposed to take care of that?
00:57
you could have just built a package based off the most recent ubuntu package and up the versions
00:57
<nubae>
yeah but supposedly they havent for 1.5 years now
00:57
think it was a security thing
00:57
anyway, I'm happy Im doing it now, cause then I can at least get sugar working 100%
00:57
even though it is a bit of a waste of time
00:58
i have to try to configure, then search for the dep, then install the -dev of it, then scroll up, look again, etc etc
00:58
and then move to to the plugins and extras directories and do the same there
00:58
its a total mess
00:59
<johnny>
you could have just grepped out from the configure.ac
00:59
unless it was lying..
00:59
<nubae>
well its just that its all over the place
00:59
its easier for me to do it this way methodically
00:59
<johnny>
at least you'd get the list all together..
00:59
<nubae>
yeah, but then maybe miss something or whatever...
01:00
but yes you are right, it would probably be faster
01:00
this is my configure line just for the plugins:
01:00
./configure --enable-libabiword --with-abiword=../abiword-2.6.6 --prefix=/home/n--disable-all --enable-abicollab --with-abicollab-service-backend --enable-abimathview --enable-abicommand --enable-loadbindings --enable-presentation --enable-OpenDocument --prefix=/home/nubae
01:00
:-)
01:04
hmmm... sugarb bug tracker has a nice little system, connected to twitter, so that if u follow it, it will tweet the bugs to you via msn/gtalk to your account
01:04
could do that for ltsp too
01:04
bot could then paste them to the channel

johnny: welp... so now everything is installed, all plugins and everything, but still no collaboration menu when I open it up...
01:23
<johnny>
try adding --enable-all ?
01:23
oh.. you have --disable-all ?
01:24
<nubae>
thats whats in the docs...
01:24
ah never mind, found it
01:25
u have to install the plugins afterwards from a weird directory that it installs them too
01:25
but now I get this on the collaborate menu: Could not load glade file '/usr/local/share/abiword-2.6/glade/ap_UnixDialog_CollaborationAccounts.glade'.

which package has pgdb in ubuntu? "ImportError: No module named pgdb"
02:05
it does not exist on any rpm distro
02:07
<nightrid3r>
use rpmfind.net maybe you find a package there
02:07
<cyberorg>
nightrid3r, i did http://rpm.pbone.net/ checked all
02:08
<nightrid3r>
form ubuntu ----> File pgdb found in courier-doc, courier-maildrop, maildrop, python-pygresql

<Phille>
Hello all, looking for some help with using ELO touchscreen on LTSP5(ubuntu8.10), thank you
08:30
<Gadi>
Phille: USB or serial?
08:31
<Phille>
Serial, I set the X_TOUCH_DEVICE to the correct port, but no reaction from the touch
08:32
on ltsp.org I found this option : X_TOUCH_DEVICE, but it is not documented on what values to set. I'm not sure if that param is needed or not?
08:32
<Gadi>
Phille: do this:
08:33
sudo chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 dpkg -l |grep elographics
08:34
if that returns nothing, you should first do:
08:34
<Phille>
Ok, done that now. (I feel like newbie though I've been using Ubuntu for a long time now...)
08:35
<Gadi>
sudo chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-elographics
08:35
<Phille>
indeed, no return from the chroot ... command
08:35
<Gadi>
and then: sudo ltsp-update-image
08:35
after the image rebuilds, add to lts.conf:
08:35
CONFIGURE_X=True
08:35
USE_TOUCH=Y
08:36
that should at least get you working
08:36
then, you can add calibration parameters
08:36
note: if you do not have lts.conf, make one in: /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf
08:36
<Phille>
Man, thanks a lot! I don't understand why this stuff isn't documented more detailed on the web.
08:37
<Gadi>
format is ini format
08:37
<Phille>
I've been searching for weeks for a guide or some steps to follow
08:37
<Gadi>
Phille: well, there are a lot of lts.conf params to tweak things, and the docs are lagging a bit
08:38
especially for touchscreens
08:38
especially since the touchscreen support may likely change with the changes in Xorg and evdev and such
08:41
<Phille>
Ok, that is true
08:41
do you have a link were to find more info on the chroot ... install .. command you sent me,
08:41
I'm curious about what other modules and such I can get working with the thin clients
08:42
<Gadi>
well, your chroot is simply a minimal ubuntu, using all the same ubuntu packages as your server
08:42
you can add any package into the chroot, simply by chroot'ing into it and using all the usual commands
08:43
ie, as soon as you: sudo chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 you are in the chroot environemnt
08:43
and can apt-get update, apt-get install, etc
08:43
then, after you exit the chroot, you can reroll the image sent to the client with ltsp-update-image
08:44
that stuff is documented well, I think
08:44
:)

<Gadi>
LTSP is a unique project, as we are worked on by reps of most major distros
08:45
and some things are distro-specific, while others are common
08:46
<Phille>
I came from ltsp 4.2 about two years ago, installed that in my distro and is working fine until now.
08:47
now I'm testing the Ubuntu with LTSP integrated, up until now it was a lot easyer with LTSP already integrated into the distro
08:47
but then again, Ubuntu is new to me
08:47
<Gadi>

3 or even 4 years

so roughly 2005?
11:11
2004?
11:11
<ogra>
ubuntu 5.10 was the first ubuntu release carrying ltsp5 ... when we started development on it 4.2 wasnt developed anymore
11:11
there was no overlap
11:11
<warren>
when was that?
11:11
<ogra>
so end 2004, beginning of 2005
11:11
<warren>
ok thanks
11:11
<ogra>
ubuntu version numbers are (200)Y.MM
11:12* Gadi seems to recall a period of overlap
11:12
<ogra>
(so its easy to guess from that)
11:12
Gadi, i dont think there was 4.2 development after the sydney UDS
11:12
and 5.0 development started there
11:13
<Gadi>
sydney was only 5.0?
11:13
<ogra>
jim did one kernel update for 4.2 about 6 months after the first ltsp5 release
11:13
<nubae>

<ogra>
etyack, right, that was the kernel update i was talking about
11:14
in oct 2005 the first 5.0 release came out
11:14
<Gadi>
so, we really are talking end of 05 beginning of 06
11:15
<ogra>
so it was not 6 but 10 months after that when jim did the kernel security fix
11:15
Gadi, UDS was in april 05
11:15
there ltsp5 was specced and nobody worked on 4.x anymore

11:32

warren, if you accept having a fully closed driver, having to compile your own libdrm and the like, it saves a lot of power, yes
11:32
<warren>
closed!?
11:32
<ogra>
(oh and indeed the in kernel drm needs a rebuild of your kernel as well)
11:32
yes

indeed

21:02* Ryan52 still gets python tracebacks...
21:02
<Ryan52>
on my completely rewritten thing to generate the file.
21:03
anybody willing to look at it? :)
21:03
<TheProf>
Ryan52: Would you happen to know how to cat something to a device attached to a client?
21:03* Ryan52 tried the encode thing, but failed
21:04
<Ryan52>
TheProf, add "SCREEN_10=shell" to lts.conf, reboot the thin client, and switch to virtual console 10. then do stuff there.
21:05* Ryan52 assumes you're doing it for debugging..
21:05
<TheProf>
Ryan52: ok. I've got the shell screen on the client. I seem to remember that not all the files are accessible from the thin client -- it seems to have only a subset of the files from the server
21:05
yes exactly for that.
21:06
<Ryan52>
yes, it's only the things in the chroot.
21:06
are you using nfs or nbd?
21:06
<TheProf>
nfs
21:06
so i think it
21:06
is in /opt/i386, etc
21:06
<Ryan52>
yes.
21:07
so just "sudo cp /usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1000.dl /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1000.dl"
21:07
on the server.
21:07
and then you'll have access.
21:07
<TheProf>
perfect. I will try it now. thank you!
21:16
Ryan52: It seems to be almost working! It accepted the firmware.
21:16
Just need to see if now that will make it print
21:18vagrantc has quit IRC
21:18
<TheProf>
IT WORKED!!!!
21:18
Sheesh it's a MIRACLE!
21:18
<Ryan52>
YAY! :)
21:22
<TheProf>
Seriously. I was going nuts.
21:22
now i'm just printing because I can :)
21:22
this is wicked.
21:23
<Ryan52>
heh
21:23
<TheProf>
Ryan52: the solution was running that command from the client shell. Is there a way to do that automatically when the client boots each time?
21:24
<Ryan52>
lemme check if there's an ltsp way before I tell you the general way.
21:24
<TheProf>
Thank you I appreciate it
21:26
<Ryan52>
okay, looks like there is not. so edit /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/local/bin/setup-printer with your editor of choice.
21:26
do you only have one system with a printer? or is there something disinguishing with this system?
21:27
(that way it only loads it on this thin client)
21:27
<TheProf>
I've got it assigned to a specific thin client by mac and ip address
21:27
<Ryan52>
okay, so then just to be sure, add this to your lts.conf first:
21:28
[mac:addr:goes:here]
21:28
SETUP_PRINTER=true
21:28
<TheProf>
I've got a [mac] entry for this client within lts.conf so I will append that line to it.
21:28
<Ryan52>
or, nevermind, that was stupid.
21:29
just add "RCFILE_00=/usr/local/bin/setup-printer" to that section.
21:29
<TheProf>
OK. forgotten :)
21:29
<Ryan52>
no need for anything extra.
21:29
then go back into /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/local/bin/setup-printer and add whatever commands you ran manually.
21:30
and it should be ran on startup for that system.
21:31
<TheProf>
hmm..my /opt/ltsp/i386/usr has no local under it
21:32
is there a file within that I can search for to see where it is?
21:33
<Ryan52>
you should have one...
21:33
but no, in this case you aren't editing a file.
21:33
you are creating one.
21:33
so just make the directories needed.
21:33
<TheProf>
so I'll create the local/bin/ directories and create the setup-printer file
21:33
<Ryan52>
yep
21:34
<TheProf>
do I need to make the executable or any fancy permissions?
21:34
<Ryan52>
probably need to make it executable
21:40
<TheProf>
sorry took a while to figure out how to make executable. I did a chmod -X setup-printer
21:40
<Ryan52>
+x..
21:41
<TheProf>
in it are two lines -- a comment with a # in front and the cat command itself.
21:41
argh sorry, yes it was +x
21:41
my mistake.
21:41
<Ryan52>
you coulda just asked me how to do it :)
21:41
<TheProf>
alright so now I reboot the client and test
21:41
<Ryan52>
yep.
21:42
<TheProf>
can I see the script being run someplace?
21:42
or I'll just know if it prints which is good enough :)
21:42
<Ryan52>
ya
21:48
<TheProf>
Ryan52: Nope. Didn't run the command. I just tried to print and it didn't go. same as before. ran the command manually and it worked
21:48
let me just check if I made a mistake in the setup-printer file
21:49
this is the command in lts.conf
21:49
RCFILE_00=/usr/local/bin/setup-printer
21:50
this is what is in the setup-printer file located at /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/local/bin
21:50
# File to run the cat firmware > usb printer for the computer lab HP LJ 1000
21:50
cat /usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1000.dl > /dev/usb/lp0
21:51
the file has the attributes 100755 root root

22:02
1) I was missing that !/bin/bash line at the top
22:02keithclark has quit IRC
22:02
<TheProf>
2) there was a sample file included in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/rc.d that lets you
22:03
run scripts at client boot.
22:03keithclark has joined #ltsp
22:03
<Ryan52>
for ltsp specific stuff?
22:04
<TheProf>
yes
22:04
it has a file called sample that gave some steps. the same thing you said really
22:04
<Ryan52>
weird, I didn't know that existed.
22:04
<TheProf>
only difference was it needed an RC number from 01 to 10
22:04
<Ryan52>
oh.
22:04
<TheProf>
so I changed it to 01 and put the setup file in that directory.
22:05
but thank you
