Hey nestorac :)
12:17
!install
12:17
<ltspbot>
install: To install LTSP: https://ltsp.org/docs/installation/
12:17
<alkisg>
Start with this, it's the easiest way to get up and running in 1 hour
12:17
(including the base os installation)

<nestorac>

14:04
<nestorac>
I have run "ltsp image /" to create the OS to boot under LTSP
14:05
how does ir work? It creates an image which cannot be modified, maybe?
14:30
<RaphGro>
does iPXE work via wifi too?
14:45woernie has left IRC (woernie!~werner@p578bb7b6.dip0.t-ipconnect.de, Quit: http://quassel-irc.org - Chat comfortably. Anywhere.)
15:32
<nestorac>
alkisg, I have read and tried, but when I start iPXE on my guest VM it cannot load the OS
15:33
it complains about a System Rescue image not found on 10.0.2.4 server
15:41
<alkisg>
nestorac: you just followed the installation page, or did you do something more?
15:41
What's your setup like, 1 nic, 2 nic, are you using an external dhcp server etc?
15:42
RaphGro: ipxe supports a few wifi cards, yes, but in general wired is better, especially for a lot of clients
15:43
nestorac: also note that it's usually better to use "bridged mode" in VMs, not "NAT"
15:50
<RaphGro>
alkisg: ok, thanks
15:55
<nestorac>
it's true, now I am using Bridged mode
15:55
my setup is: an Ubuntu 20.04 computer with two Virtualbox VMs
15:56
one runs Debian 10, the other one is ony iPXE
15:56
*only
15:56
I switch up iPXE VM and it receives an IP address from an external DHCP server
15:57
<alkisg>
nestorac: great, and you have both VMs in bridged mode?
15:58
<nestorac>
alkisg, that's it , yes
15:58
<alkisg>
And what's the situation now?
15:58
The client still won't boot? With what message?
15:59
Btw are you using the internal ipxe of virtualbox, or e.g. ipxe.iso?
16:04
<nestorac>
I'll try ipxe.iso
16:06
"Nothing to boot" Int18 boot failure
16:06
:-(
16:07
no such file or directory
16:08
I guess it happens because my DHCP external server does not assign PXE information to the DHCP answer
16:09
<alkisg>
nestorac: no, this is normal
16:09
nestorac: did you run `ltsp dnsmasq` in debian, AFTER you switched to bridged mode?
16:09
If not, then it won't know the new subnet...
16:10
<nestorac>
OMG, you're right!! ltsp dnsmasq did the trick
16:10
now, I get the screen and I choose the first option, but it lacks the image
16:12
<alkisg>
nestorac: it lacks the option to boot x86_64?
16:12
Did you run `ltsp ipxe` AFTER running `ltsp image /` ?
16:15
<nestorac>
it's running! I missed "ltsp initrd"
16:15
:-) now, it's time to try and deploy
16:15
thank you!!!
16:15
<alkisg>
You're welcome :)
