<Burgundavia>
either will work
01:04
you need ltsp-standalone if you are using ubuntu
01:07
<wf_c0d3r>
yups but when i used the desktop version i just can get it run
01:10
<Burgundavia>
I belive so

sahil: well, network-manager kind of treats your networking configuration as it's own and, as far as i understand, doesn't respect other configuration schemes
05:32
this is coming from someone who's never used it, only the complaints i've heard from others
05:33* vagrantc makes no further comments regarding network manager

<cottima>
I have a question I am a bad linux user, so please pardon me, but I have an old Compaq rack mount server that was donated dual p3 900mhz and about 512mb. I have never done a project with linux, just a bad user using desktop graphical environment and a LITTLE command line. I am worried about control, and do not totally like ubuntu but know that it is friendly for most.
11:23
Oh, sorry. I have two questions: 1) anyone think that server can handle 12 to 15 terminals and 2) am I just being chicken about ubuntu and/or security (I do not want users to have command line access, at least no base system access).
11:24
I am developing a lab for non-profit org to allow children to do homework
11:40
<jammcq>
cottima: that server would be ok for about 5 terminals. take a look at: http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/ServerSizing
11:41
also, the only way to know for sure is to try it
11:41
if possible, try to add some more ram, that's the most important thing
11:42
and i'd be curious to hear why you don't totally like ubuntu
11:49

Etherboot is getting a dhcp address (I see DHCP discover/offer/request/ack in Ethereal), but when IP-Config tries to get a DHCP address I only see DHCP discover/offer. IP-Config doesn't continue with a DHCP request.
23:16
<F-GT>
any ltsp devs awake ?
23:19* sutula suspects there are people awake somewhere in the world
23:20
<F-GT>
still trying to get ltsp working after about 4 hrs .. starting to do my head in :)
23:21
v5 anyway
23:21
<Burgundavia>
what distro?
23:22
<F-GT>
fc7 with the feisty tarball
23:23
<Burgundavia>
ahh
23:23
<F-GT>
i see the bootsplash for ubuntu
23:23
<Burgundavia>
that isn't shocking
23:24
I think that is part of the tarball
23:24* jammcq wonders what he was expecting to see
23:24
<F-GT>
and if i tail /var/log/messages i can see dhcp requests, offers and packs
23:25
:)
23:25
i dont get ldm
23:25
<jammcq>
what kind of thin client?
23:25
<F-GT>
infact i cant seem to get it to do anything other than drop back to a busy box after time
23:25
ive got it in vmware atm
23:25
<jammcq>
ok, you need to disable usplash, to see what it's doing
23:26
find the pxelinux.cfg/default file, and remove the 'usplash quiet' options
23:26
<F-GT>
yeah
23:26
did that
23:26
<jammcq>
ok
23:26
<F-GT>
doesnt seem to do anything
23:26
<jammcq>
is usplash still showing?
23:26
<F-GT>
yep
23:26
let me just try again
23:26
<jammcq>
then you didn't do it right
23:26
or you did it to the wrong file
23:27
<ringlej>
F-GT: are you using an external dhcp server?
23:27
<F-GT>
im using the dchp server on my fc7 box
23:27
<jammcq>
that's no problem
23:27
<F-GT>
pwd
23:27
/opt/ltsp/ubuntu_feisty_i386/boot/pxelinux.cfg
23:27
<jammcq>
that's wrong
23:27
<F-GT>
doh
23:28
<jammcq>
do this: grep server_args /etc/xinetd.d/tftp
23:28
<F-GT>
yeah
23:28
i just changed the other one
23:28
once sec
23:28
one sec
23:28
<jammcq>

23:29

23:29
<jammcq>
k
23:29
<F-GT>
that
23:30
ok .. getting text now :)
23:30
nfsmount need a path.. hmm
23:31
<jammcq>
what's your 'root-path' set to, in dhcpd.conf?
23:31
i'm guessing you have the ip address in there
23:31
<ringlej>
I just found out that in order to use an external dhcpd3-server, I had to add "always-broadcast true;" to my dhcpd.conf. Otherwise, when IP-Config tries to do a DHCP discover, it doesn't seem to see the offer response.
23:31
<jammcq>
ringlej: never heard of that
23:31
<F-GT>
option root-path "192.168.0.1:/opt/ltsp/ubuntu_feisty_i386";
23:32
<jammcq>
F-GT: yeah, ltsp-5 has a bug, it can't handle the IP address in the root-path
23:32
remove the 192.168.0.1:
23:32
<F-GT>
ok
23:32
<jammcq>
so it's just the path
23:32
<F-GT>
got it .. trying again
23:32
looking better
23:33
nope
23:33
doh
23:33

23:35* sutula rests his case that people are awake, even some that know something (unlike himself :)
23:35
<ringlej>
jammcq: ok. I wasn't really sure about that. There are two different entites that do dhcp request during the boot of a ltsp-client: pxe/etherboot and later IP-Config. In my case, I was having a problem with the later.
23:35
<F-GT>
ok.. that's stopped the nfs mount errors
23:35
<jammcq>
ringlej: yeah, but by the time NFS starts doing it's thing, you'll be way past dhcp issues
23:35

F-GT: umm, dunno how fedora enables nfs over tcp
