I have a problem. I just installed ltsp from packages with Hardy and it is a bit different from the previous version
a bit. not that much.
is there any documentation for this new version?
nothing has been updated, AFAIK
but ask anyway
how can I create a user for the thin client
for debugging purposes
|07:17||subir has quit IRC|
you'd need to do that in the chroot, then re-generate the image
what do you need to debug, more specifically?
|07:18||the_code_ has joined #ltsp|
that is a long story :)
|07:19||the_code has quit IRC|

but I have separated the desktop session to a separate machine
and have the ltsp access part on another
ok, so one machine provides the LTSP boot image and another one serves the desktops?
that should work, as long as it's properly configured on your DHCP server.
it's not an ideal solution, mind you
in previous version I just changed the server attribute from lts.conf and imported application servers public keys to the access server
you'd also need to modify the lts.conf to point to a different server. not an easy task.
that should still work, AFAIK
there is some problems so I need to check what is going on
you can just temporarily enable the root password, for that
but the creation of a new user to the nfs-root did not work as it used to
as it is somewhat different now
we don't use NFS anymore
lets say client root?
we use network blocks
|07:24||Guaraldo has quit IRC|

masus: LDM for LTSP5
Blinny : is it possible to change? to GDM
|09:34||Q-FUNK has quit IRC|
dummy question yes :)
i dont understand why the ldm package by me is not installed by default.
have problems with Auto login features have added these lines to lts.conf "[00:30:05:06:CC:D5] \ LDM_AUTOLOGIN=true \ LDM_USERNAME=xxx \ LDM_PASSWORD=xxx" where xxx is the real user and pass, and have installed the package ldm.
but nothing changed may i do something wrong ?

masus: I have used gdm with ltsp
vpro: im newbie can u explain howto ?
if not no problem
masus, yu ill lose all additional features, but can enable it by SCREEN_07=xdmcp
(and setting up GDM right for XDMCP as well)
I meant to say I used to :)
ok thanks i'll try
thats deprecated with the latest releases
its called xdmcp now
and whats with the auto-login any ideas ?
but in your case i'D be more concerned why you have a broken setup at all, did the ltsp-build-client not finish properly ?
ldm *must* be there in any case
else something went fundamentally wrong
i use ltsp since 2 days without any errors
but i want to add auto login so i have googled a little
and see the that i need ldm for that
and hav look with aptitude and see thats not installed
so i have install it for 30 min ago
note that ldm should never ever be installed on the server, it needs to be in the client environment (under /opt/ltsp/)
so it was installed
and f you use etch without the backports i dont think ldm knew about autologin back then, etch is pretty old
hmmm u think thats the problem
masus: autologin is quite easy with gdm
nothing is easy for me
vpro, but no local devcies, no secuity and no sound setup or any of the other ltsp features will work
they are all tied to ldm in ltsp5
masus: that is true

is possible you try help me with rtl8101E ?
hmm, probably not. I've been out of ltsp development for a very long time
that was fxed only very recently (2.6.25 i think)
you will need some very new ltsp version for that, i dont think there exists any yet using this kernel
(because i havent managed to pull in the ltsp merges into ntrepid yet, else you could at least try the ubuntu dev release)
|10:22||cliebow_ has quit IRC|
ah, no, i just see it was backported to ubuntu hardy, so it should work there with rtl8101E whith no oopses or other problems now
you just need the updated kernel from hardy-proposed
(if you dont use ubuntu, ask your distro maintainer to include the fix)
ogra, I use openSUSE.
ogra, in ubuntu this nic work ?
in hardy (8.04) with -updates and -proposed or in intrepid (8.10)
ogra, what version the best ubuntu ?
ogra, ok thanxxx
see the help.ubuntu.com page above for nstall instructions
ogra, I try download now

ogra, about ipconfig: klibc 1.5.11 is out, and has one of my patches that I think was the basic problem: the ltsp-server answered first with DHCP_OFFER, ipconfig then send DHCP_REQUEST, but finally ipconfig mistook the just-arriving router offer as DHCPACK (and so fell to busybox). I think that should cover many of the problematic cases without changing anything in ltsp_nbd. I'm still waiting for some other patches to be approved though...

warren: what's the context?
well, I heard debian has it
I've never seen it
i don't know what you mean by "figure out" i guess.
vagrantc: rather than manually pick keyboard layout options from a big and confusing menu, it tells you to type things until it figures out your layout. Apple has something similar.
dexconf does only keyboard setup?

ah - I think crossover used the loki installer
so, you can get it either in loki installer form or straight deb
|16:21||Nubae has quit IRC|
ok, what I'm installing is a .deb, not sure what it means with installing on top of loki package
or... maybe because there is a previous installation in /opt/cxoffice
it means you need to blow away (or uninstall) all the existing crossover files
and that was a script...

k... delete that and it should go I guess
was hoping I could just put it on top, not to have to reinstall all the windows apps
