<Q-FUNK>
:)
07:16
<vpro>
I have a problem. I just installed ltsp from packages with Hardy and it is a bit different from the previous version
07:16
<Q-FUNK>
a bit. not that much.
07:17
<vpro>
is there any documentation for this new version?
07:17
<Q-FUNK>
nothing has been updated, AFAIK
07:17
but ask anyway
07:17
<vpro>
how can I create a user for the thin client
07:17
for debugging purposes
07:17subir has quit IRC
07:18
<Q-FUNK>
you'd need to do that in the chroot, then re-generate the image
07:18
what do you need to debug, more specifically?
07:18the_code_ has joined #ltsp
07:18
<vpro>
that is a long story :)
07:19the_code has quit IRC
07:19the_code_ is now known as the_code
07:19
<vpro>
but I have separated the desktop session to a separate machine
07:19
and have the ltsp access part on another
07:19
<Q-FUNK>
ok, so one machine provides the LTSP boot image and another one serves the desktops?
07:20
<vpro>
yes
07:20
<Q-FUNK>
that should work, as long as it's properly configured on your DHCP server.
07:20
it's not an ideal solution, mind you
07:21
<vpro>
in previous version I just changed the server attribute from lts.conf and imported application servers public keys to the access server
07:21
<Q-FUNK>
you'd also need to modify the lts.conf to point to a different server. not an easy task.
07:22
that should still work, AFAIK
07:22
<vpro>
ok
07:22
there is some problems so I need to check what is going on
07:23
<Q-FUNK>
you can just temporarily enable the root password, for that
07:23
<vpro>
but the creation of a new user to the nfs-root did not work as it used to
07:23
as it is somewhat different now
07:23
<Q-FUNK>
we don't use NFS anymore
07:23
<vpro>
ok
07:23
lets say client root?
07:23
<Q-FUNK>
we use network blocks
07:24

i dont understand why the ldm package by me is not installed by default.
09:42
have problems with Auto login features have added these lines to lts.conf "[00:30:05:06:CC:D5] \ LDM_AUTOLOGIN=true \ LDM_USERNAME=xxx \ LDM_PASSWORD=xxx" where xxx is the real user and pass, and have installed the package ldm.

09:59
<ogra>
masus, yu ill lose all additional features, but can enable it by SCREEN_07=xdmcp
09:59
(and setting up GDM right for XDMCP as well)
09:59
<vpro>
I meant to say I used to :)
10:00
with SCREEN_07=startx
10:00
<masus>
ok thanks i'll try
10:00
<ogra>
thats deprecated with the latest releases
10:00
its called xdmcp now
10:01
<masus>
and whats with the auto-login any ideas ?
10:01
<ogra>
but in your case i'D be more concerned why you have a broken setup at all, did the ltsp-build-client not finish properly ?
10:01
ldm *must* be there in any case
10:01
else something went fundamentally wrong
10:04
<masus>
i use ltsp since 2 days without any errors
10:04
but i want to add auto login so i have googled a little
10:04
and see the that i need ldm for that
10:04
and hav look with aptitude and see thats not installed
10:04
so i have install it for 30 min ago
10:06
<ogra>
note that ldm should never ever be installed on the server, it needs to be in the client environment (under /opt/ltsp/)
10:06
<masus>
oh
10:06
so it was installed
10:07
<ogra>
and f you use etch without the backports i dont think ldm knew about autologin back then, etch is pretty old
10:08
<masus>
hmmm u think thats the problem
10:08
<vpro>
masus: autologin is quite easy with gdm
10:08
<masus>
nothing is easy for me
10:08
:)
10:08
<ogra>
vpro, but no local devcies, no secuity and no sound setup or any of the other ltsp features will work
10:09
they are all tied to ldm in ltsp5

ogra, about ipconfig: klibc 1.5.11 is out, and has one of my patches that I think was the basic problem: the ltsp-server answered first with DHCP_OFFER, ipconfig then send DHCP_REQUEST, but finally ipconfig mistook the just-arriving router offer as DHCPACK (and so fell to busybox). I think that should cover many of the problematic cases without changing anything in ltsp_nbd. I'm still waiting for some other patches to be approved though...

hmmm... anyone know what a loki package is?
16:17
<Gadi>
wasnt loki the game company that open sourced their installer?
16:17
it may be an installer
16:17
or a package for the loki installer
16:19
<Nuba1>
trying to install crossover demo for someone and it complains
16:19
This CrossOver Linux Standard Debian package cannot be installed on top of a Loki package.
16:19
<Gadi>
ah - I think crossover used the loki installer
16:20
so, you can get it either in loki installer form or straight deb

<Nuba1>
ok, what I'm installing is a .deb, not sure what it means with installing on top of loki package
16:21
or... maybe because there is a previous installation in /opt/cxoffice
16:21
<Gadi>
it means you need to blow away (or uninstall) all the existing crossover files
16:21
<Nuba1>
and that was a script...

<Nuba1>
k... delete that and it should go I guess
16:22
<Gadi>
yup
16:22
<Nuba1>
was hoping I could just put it on top, not to have to reinstall all the windows apps
16:22
<Gadi>
the windows apps should live in ~/.cxoffice
16:22
iirc
16:22
so, you should be good to go
16:23
<Nuba1>
in managed version they are under /opt
16:24
<Gadi>
ah

what does iirc mean?
16:35
<johnny>
if i recall correctly
16:35
you could use a search engine to find that tho :)
16:36
<Nuba1>
just wondering people use it on here... I'm just wondering what it means
16:37
<|Ryan52>
or install the debian package 'wtf'. probably in other distros too.
16:38
oh. bsdgames. same difference.
16:38
<Nuba1>
if it really counts... ok
16:38
another mystery resolved :-)
16:39
or If I recall correctly
16:39
I think he meant the latter
16:40
doh... now I'm reading the conversation again and see johnny said that like 20 minutes ago
16:40
its getting late...
