My Ubuntu 12.04 LTSP clients boot into Busybox since they cannot find NBDServer. NBDServer doesn't want to start after the upgrade (alkisg: This is the machine that had the dnsmasq blockked by the firewall). How can I "fix" NBD Server on this without rebuilding the whole thing?
13:15
<alkisg>
lifeboy: client: cat /proc/cmdline
13:15
nbd server doesn't start?
13:16

13:18
<lifeboy>
alkisg: Yes, it complains about "Key file does not have key 'exportname'" ... I'm pastebinning the output and config now
13:18
<alkisg>
Did you upgrade from 10.04 to 12.04?
13:18
<lifeboy>
yes I did
13:18
<alkisg>
The upgrade path there is pretty broken
13:19
<lifeboy>
actuall first 10.10 a while ago and then to 11.04, 11.10 and 12.04
13:19
<alkisg>
It would be better if you uninstalled everything ltsp/nbd related, deleted all configs from /etc, and then reinstalled everything ltsp/nbd related...

13:22

<alkisg>
lifeboy: you have a 10.04 chroot
13:30
You need to build a 12.04 one
13:30
<lifeboy>
yes,the client hardware needs that
13:30
<alkisg>
Are you sure? Why?
13:31
is the problem (1) pae or (2) cmov?
13:31
<lifeboy>
The chip doesn't support some code that was dropped from UBuntu after 10.04
13:31
ah, yes, cmov
13:31
<alkisg>
Hmmm you'd better use a wheezy chroot then
13:32
The nbd-server in 12.04 uses name-based exports,
13:32
while the nbd-client in 10.04 uses port-based exports
13:32
<lifeboy>
and 10.04 can't talk to that?
13:32
ok, I understand
13:32
<alkisg>
Not unless you change nbd-server in 12.04 to use port-based exports,
13:32
...which will be an extra overhead...
13:33
The wheezy chroot is very similar to a 12.04 chroot wrt application versions
13:33
<lifeboy>
does Ubuntu LTSP support installing a debian client or must I do that manually?
13:33
<alkisg>
I'd install debian in a vm, then run ltsp-build-client there, and trasfer the result back to ubunntu
13:34
<lifeboy>
Ok, that can be done
13:34
<alkisg>
Ubuntu supposedly supports building a debian chroot, but I think you'll hit a few bugs there...
13:34
<lifeboy>
That I could also run a client in a VM and test by config remotely, not so?
13:34
<alkisg>
Sure
13:35
<lifeboy>
Since I can't go out the site again over the weekend, but I can build the VM remotely
13:35
<alkisg>
The nbd-server configuration that's now missing will be created when you run ltsp-update-image, unless you stick to using nfs
13:36designbybeck has left IRC (designbybeck!~quassel@x176y131.angelo.edu, Remote host closed the connection)
13:36
<lifeboy>
So 12.04 doesn't by default use nfs?
13:36
<alkisg>
No, debian uses nfs by default, ubuntu uses nbd by default, in all versions
13:36
<lifeboy>
Ah, I see
13:37
<alkisg>
(I closed vnc)
13:38
<lifeboy>
So I build a chroot for wheezy in a Debian VM, copy it for UBuntu and do ltsp-update-image, which will configure it with nbd rather than nfs?
13:38
<alkisg>
Right
13:38
<lifeboy>
I think I'll get started a.s.a.p. and let's see if I get stuck
13:39
Never played with Debian, but I suppose it's pretty much like Ubuntu, right?
13:40
<alkisg>
Right, and wheezy is pretty much the same as 12.04 lts, you could even use that for your server without seeing much of a difference
13:40
(nope, you don't need it, i was just saying...)
13:42
<lifeboy>
Thanks for helping again!
13:42
<alkisg>
np
13:44
<lifeboy>
I see debian has some complete images I can download. Is wheeze the "stable" release?
13:44
wheezy
13:45
<jmilot>
wheezy will be the next strable release in few days
13:46
<lifeboy>
so which version should I installed? 6.0.7?
13:47
<alkisg>
Wheezy
13:47
It's debian 7
13:50
<lifeboy>
Ok, I'll search for it.

See, before I could not use scanimage-L does not find the scanner. Now it finds the scanner, both the shell client and the terminal server.
20:02
<jammcq>
when you run 'scanimage -L', what is the output?
20:03
<ltspuser_22>
device `net:192.168.153.21:hpaio:/usb/HP_Color_LaserJet_CM1015?serial=00CNBY67V016' is a Hewlett-Packard HP_Color_LaserJet_CM1015 all-in-one
20:05
<jammcq>
ok, try this:
20:05
scanimage -d net:192.168.153.21:hpaio:/usb/HP_Color_LaserJet_CM1015?serial=00CNBY67V016
20:05

I did this work was to install in the chroot libsane.hpaio
20:06
<jammcq>
scanimage -d net:192.168.153.21:hpaio:/usb/HP_Color_LaserJet_CM1015?serial=00CNBY67V016 >image.pnm

that should scan the document and place the image in image.pnm
20:07
