https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ltsp/+bug/360355 - i have this problem
09:59
or something similalr
10:08
k, so looking at volume control, i have "nvidia ck804 alsa" on the server, but i also have audio controls for pulse audio, and pulse audio has fewer controls than the alsa
10:08
hrm, however changing that doesn't solve my problem
10:09
it's suggested that the "audio" group be removed
10:10
it appears that the user does not have individual controls set up for sound
10:10
this is also the same for logout/login options, it's not user permission based either
10:11
does ltsp do a hardware inventory based on mac address and store that configuration?
10:12
shouldn't each user/login have their own "audio group" configuration stored in their home directory?
10:13
i would have assumed that anything user changeable would be in something similar as ".user_config" and would specify those settings for that user
10:13
where as system wide, would be stored in "user_class" type of info
10:14
and then things such as "group_config" for groups of users
10:14
and "machine_config" for each individual machine identified by mac address
10:14
am i missing something how ltsp works?

on the ltsp side, i have 512mb ram and a 20g hard drive. is there a way to use the ram on the thin client? i'm having problems with flash
15:44
<Ryan52>
Ahmuck_: use localapps for firefox?
15:46
<Ahmuck_>
hrm, somebody mentioned localapps solution. my mind doesn't retain things like it used to
16:10cyberorg has joined #ltsp
16:18
<Ahmuck_>
Ryan52: it says chroot. do i need to rebuild the ltsp client?
16:19
<Ryan52>
no clue what you mean. and I'm busy.
16:19
<Ahmuck_>
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ltsp-localapps - not functioning yet?
16:19
i'll wait
16:30
sbalneav: looking at launchpad, it appears you are implementing the local apps. it appears it's not fully functioning yet?
16:30
if i do an "aptitude search ltsp-localapps" it returns nothing
16:31
<vagrantc>
localapps is available in recent versions of ubuntu's ltsp implementation
16:32
<Ahmuck_>
fuse?
16:32
<vagrantc>
you basically need to install it in the chroot (chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 apt-get install FOO), update the image (ltsp-update-image) and set LOCAL_APPS_MENU=true in lts.conf (create or add to /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf)
16:32
localdevs use fuse...
16:32
totally separate from local apps
16:36
<Ahmuck_>
faq or primer somewhere?
16:42* Ryan52 has never seen a tutorial for how to set up localapps
16:43
<Ryan52>
I don't know if I've even set it up myself before..

vagrantc: on ltsp, everything is chroot install? so any new app needs to be chroot install for the clients?

Ahmuck_: only local apps
18:18
Ahmuck_: normally, all apps are installed on the server, *not* in the chroot.

<Ahmuck_>
so local apps need to be chroot. firefox chroot, does flash then need to be chroot as well. would this work for SDL applications?
22:04
<Ryan52>
yes.
22:04
what's SDL?
22:05
you mean the framework?
22:05
if so, then I don't see why it wouldn't..
22:05
<Ahmuck_>
SDL sound on apps such as ri-li
22:06
currently trying to get any type of SDL app to run on a thin client is impossible
22:06
<Ryan52>
I think it'd work. try it and see :).
22:06
<Ahmuck_>
so if one could do local apps, it might be something i'd consider
22:06
<Ryan52>
oh.
22:06
dunno, you really should just try it yourself.
22:07
<Ahmuck_>
k, and if neither works, then i submit a add on to "i assume" already existing bug?
22:18
can you tell localapps what to use, for example, my procs are 800, but i have 512mb mem
22:24
so use server processor, but local memory
22:24
<Ryan52>
that has nothing to do with localapps.
22:25
localapps just runs the command on the thin client instead.
23:22
<Ahmuck_>
now i'm confused about localapps
23:23
so, ie, firefox still runs from the server, but how does it run localapp wise?
23:23
<Ryan52>
it runs on the thin client if you set it up to run with local apps.
23:24
<Ahmuck_>
SDL ri-li runs on the thin client if it's set up to run with local apps?
23:24
<Ryan52>
it shoulh, yes.
23:24
<Ahmuck_>
Ryan52: is there a diagram. i'm real good with diagrams
23:24
<Ryan52>
no
23:25
<Ahmuck_>
like a flow chart ...
23:25
<Ryan52>
Ahmuck_: just go play werewolf :P
23:25
or yandere?
23:25
where do I know you from?
23:25
<Ahmuck_>
ah really!
23:25
yandere prolly
23:25
#japanese ?
23:25* Ryan52 nods
23:25
<Ahmuck_>
or nihongo
23:25
<Ryan52>
no
23:25
what?
23:26
<Ahmuck_>
hrm
23:26
anyhow i'm not intersted in yandere
23:26
<Ryan52>
:P
23:26
<Ahmuck_>
i'm interested in getting certain apps to run well enough in a ltsp environment to consider it stable
23:27
<Ryan52>
tbh, I can't help.
23:28
<Ahmuck_>
tbh (?) don't know the meaning of that
23:32
<Ryan52>
to be honest
