sbalneav: bryce might have figured out what causes auto-configuration to fail on -amd. he says that we might still have time for a last-minute UVF.
00:49
<sbalneav>
Q-FUNK: Really?
00:49
What's causing it?
00:50
Anything I can download and test?
00:50
<Q-FUNK>
it seems that X tries to fall-back on vga, for some reason, and fails.
00:51
he added some comments to the bug.
00:51
not yet, but soon now that we're aware of what causes the issue.
00:51
or well, we have a slight idea.

sbalneav: actually, can you try the kernel I have here, to see if it fixes it? http://q-funk.iki.fi/debian/pool/l/linux-image-2.6.22/linux-image-2.6.22-dbe61_2.6.22-1_i386.deb

<Q-FUNK>
sbalneav: I vaguely recall something about the recent drivers making broad assumptions that they are running on top of lxfb. this kernel has lxfb built-in.
01:11
<sbalneav>
Q-FUNK: That one gets to the point of loading the rtl8139 module, then latches up solid

even alt-sysrq-b wont reboot it.
01:11
<Q-FUNK>
hm.
01:12
really weird.
01:12
<ogra>
what are you guys trying ?
01:12
<sbalneav>
Kernel
01:12
<ogra>
that i see :)
01:13
<sbalneav>
This is the problem with the thincan that it won't load X because autoconfig cacks out
01:13
<Q-FUNK>
trying to see if the presence of lxfb makes autoconfiguration work
01:13
<ogra>
ah
01:13
and kernel helps ?
01:13
i thought its an X prob
01:13
<sbalneav>
Well, not THIS kernel, anyway :)

ogra: I have suspicions that recent driver changes assume that they are running on top of gxfb or lxfb.
01:26
i vaguely recall Jordan saying something about the backup solution to fallback on BIOS inherited available video modes not working as expected.
01:27
<ogra>
did you try with sid ?
01:27
does it work there, is there a kernel difference wrt lxfb between debian/ubuntu
01:27
<Q-FUNK>
I do not have sid
01:27
lxfb is not yet merged in vanilla.
01:27
<ogra>
ah
01:28
<Q-FUNK>
it should enter vanilla with 2.6.23, IIRC
01:29
<ogra>
ah, thats bad ...
01:29
<Q-FUNK>
sbalneav: can you check if rebuilding the standard ubuntu kernel with this lxfb patch fixes anything?

<Curs0r>
does ltsp support iscsi or ata-over-ethernet booting?
01:33
<sbalneav>
Q-FUNK: I'll try that tomorrow.

ltsp5
02:20
what version are you running?
02:20
<jane19>
o, I am also on ltsp5
02:20
but, as soon as I play sound in client it gets played in server,
02:21
Do we have to specify other parameter in lts.conf expect sound=yes,
02:21
<cyberorg>
try this export ESPEAKER=<clientIP>:16001
02:21
give the actual ip address of the client, and launch application from the same shell
02:23
<jane19>
ok, lets try it
02:23
but , other says, that there is no actual sound support in etch,

04:37
i have a small question
04:38
<bgomes>
haier: w?
04:38
<haier>
in a lan with 2 ltsp servers, when a client starts with PXE , whish server it will choose ?
04:39
<bgomes>
haier: on dhcpd.conf your have tag for prioritary server
04:39
but I recomend you use only one server
04:40
<haier>
if a have 1 ltsp server but in the lan there is another dhcp server (windows for example) what would hapen ?
04:40
<bgomes>
haier: and make balance of xdmc service with dhcpd of one server
04:41
haier: if use fixed-address on both servers u dont have prblem
04:41
<haier>
what do you mean by fixed adress ? in whish host ?
04:41
<bgomes>
but if dont use... it woking beter with one sever only
04:42
fixed-adress on dhcpd.conf
04:42
<haier>
can i specify to my client the ip adress to use for ltsp ?
04:42
i mean the server ip !
04:42
<bgomes>
ip adreess and mac
04:43
host hersonlan {
04:43
hardware ethernet 00:19:7e:62:0e:a0;
04:43
fixed-address 10.0.0.8;
04:43
}
04:44
<haier>
excuse me but i'll ask another question
04:44
<bgomes>
u need use this on both servers, but I use one server only on my lan
04:44
<haier>
in a 10.0.0.0 network, can i use 192.168.0.0 adressing in both ltsp server and client ?
04:45
so it will be better for client to detect server ?
04:45
ok
04:45
never mind
04:46
i have problem cause i'm in a windows network
04:46
<bgomes>
I use client in outher network but it is not necessary
04:46
<haier>
with a dhcp server
04:46
and adding my dhcp server will cause problems ! isn't it ?
04:47
<bgomes>
you can move your client for outher switch and on windows network only one lan card of server
04:48
all client use the server machine, and the server machine is on windows networking, your problem is solve
04:48
<haier>
i can't cause it's at work network
04:49
thanks for all help bgomes

04:53
<haier>

04:53

04:54
<bgomes>
haier: yes
04:54
bgomes: it's woking better
04:54
<haier>
but the 3389 port is closed here in the server !!
04:54
<bgomes>
haier: why its closed?
04:54
<haier>
i don'ts know !
04:55
<bgomes>
haier: in windows server or linux server?
04:55
<haier>
that's what the 'nmap localhost -p 3389' says !
04:55
*in linux server
04:56
<bgomes>
you dont need on linux server this port open, you can use rdesktop ip_of_your_windows_box
04:56
<haier>
no
04:56
i mean can i use an rdp client in windows to open a ts session in linux server ?
04:57

04:57
<haier>

04:57
<haier>

04:58
<bgomes>
haier: I am use pxe and boot from lan with epron burn for networking card
04:59
<haier>
i want to use etherboot in usb to use pxe and boot the cient
04:59
i'm using a cdrom pxe boot now

haier: no cdrom it not good
05:00masus has joined #ltsp
05:00
<haier>
usb??
05:00
<bgomes>
haier: you can make epron for your lan card, and use boot from lan as pxe boot or novel boot
05:01
<haier>
but in some clients i haven't this possibility
05:01
so usb will be better
05:01
the gPXE is fine
05:01
<bgomes>
haier: I can not like use removible media for boot
05:01
<haier>

crab ... my ltsp server mounts the homes of the users over nfs and now (after a restart and some update on other parts of the nfs server machine) the nfs client (ltsp-server) mounts the homes but gives all the data "as present" to the user and group nobody ... did somebody have an idea how i can fix this?

<vagrantc_>
K_O-Gnom: paste your /etc/exports file to the pastebot

vagrantc_: "pastebot" is The LTSP pastebot is at http://pastebot.ltsp.org. Please paste all text longer than a line or two to the pastebot, as it helps to reduce traffic in the channel. A link to the content will be pasted in the channel.

14:39
<vagrantc_>
K_O-Gnom: what distro ?
14:39
<K_O-Gnom>
vagrantc_: gentoo
14:40
vagrantc_: and i only run a systemupdate (and it dont update som nfs stuff) and restart the server and got that error
14:40
<vagrantc_>
K_O-Gnom: so it was working before ?
14:41
<K_O-Gnom>
vagrantc_: yes it workes perfekt
14:44
<vagrantc_>
K_O-Gnom: hmm... i would maybe consider setting "root_squash" instead of "no_root_squash" but it seems like it's behaving like you configured "all_squash" ...
14:44
<K_O-Gnom>
vagrantc_: hmmm so should i set no_all_squash?
14:45
<vagrantc_>
K_O-Gnom: i guess you could try it ...
14:45
K_O-Gnom: did you have a kernel upgrade ?
14:45
<K_O-Gnom>
vagrantc_: i think yes
14:45
but with same settings (doing make oldconfig)
14:46
<vagrantc_>
K_O-Gnom: the default nfs options may have changed between kernel versions ...
14:46
<K_O-Gnom>
vagrantc_: ok ill try that ..
14:48
vagrantc_: same shit again ... (tryed to mount on the server and got as ownership 4294967294:4294967294 )
14:50
vagrantc_: got the error ... the rpc.idmapd wasnt startet ..
14:51
now it workes ....
14:52
(added to default runlevel so that cant miss again ..
