<alkisg>
Yeah!!! New gpxe patch makes it possible to do this from a client's menu.lst: kernel /boot/gpxe.krn dhcp net0;set next-server 192.168.192.10;kernel /ltsp/i386/vmlinuz ro ip=192.168.192.101:192.168.192.10:192.168.192.1:255.255.255.0:myhostname:eth0:none;initrd /ltsp/i386/initrd.img;boot vmlinuz
01:27
So static IPs, hostnames, kernel arguments etc can be configured directly on the clients, no need for dhcp3-server, mac addresses or anything... Perfect! (at least for my old, non-pxe enabled clients that happen to have a hard disk).

I don't think Trask ever got any takers on becoming maintainers of the smbldap installer
08:08

the new slapd is wierd
08:09
i have my own installer but i have to rewrite it every time i switch os
08:09
slapd.conf is goin away..and replaced by a slapd.d dir full of ldifa
08:10
samba.schema has to be converted in order to work

If I did ltsp full-time, I'd probably take it on; but it's just a side hobby for me these days.

I haven't heard anything about it for a while, but I though Samba 4 was supposed to have its own repo such that ldap wasn't needed any more.
08:12
not sure where it's at in development, though.
08:12
<cliebow>
it apparently has it integral..
08:12
i tried to get it going on theis laptop without success..only some pieces work at this point
08:13
and i really dont want to get into tying in with ad anyway
08:13
<pscheie>
I think the goal was to be able to replace AD
08:13
<cliebow>
may have to if i cant get machines to join this domain..or revert to gutsy tod oit
08:15
from waht i can gather it was the interconvertibility between the two..i had the article on my desktop ..til i blew away the os messing with this ldap piece..trying to go up a version of slapd

we would like to convert two nic ubuntu ltsp5 to one nic can someone nuge me in the right direction
08:44
we have an existing
08:44
ltsp network
08:45
but it is ltsp 4
08:48
the network is using separate linux based dhcp server
08:49
what I'm not sure is can we have both ltsp 4 and 5 on the same segment? we are using xdmcp chooser
08:49
and it would be great if our new ltsp5 server came up as one of the choices

johnb: are you on ubuntu?
10:51
<johnb>
yes
10:51
<Gadi>
johnb: if you are, then you basically need to turn off the dhcp server on the LTSP box, add entries to the external dhcp server to point to your ltsp box as the TFTP server (next-server, filename, etc), and add: nbdroot=<LTSPboxIP>:2000 to the kernel command line in: /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default
10:53
<johnb>
thank you it was the nbdroot= that I needed
10:53
I tell you I looked high and low
10:54
I will query on nbdroot and see where I missed this in the documentation
10:54
thanks again
10:55
I will also have to take of the ssh keys too
10:58
<Gadi>
ssh keys should be same
10:58
no need to update those
10:58
only if the chroot is on a different box than the application server
11:00

dropping eth1 and only using eth0 will put ltsp on a "new" subnet

Hey Gang - I set my server up with / on md0, and marked a disk as failed, and on reboot, I get an error that /dev/md0 doesn't exist. I'm now in BusyBox.

Any ideas for how to restart md0?

what type of raid?

Hello. I hop everyone is well. I have a question please -- is the /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf suppose to be entirely empty? I have a clean install of K12linux based on Fedora 10 and it's an empty file.
21:38
I was looking to add a local parallel printer and the wiki says to add certain lines to the file but I was surprised that it was empty. Also rebooting a thin client gives an error about /etc/lts.conf not being mounted with the [failed] message.
21:39
I added the lines as instructed by the wiki, but I can't telnet to the client and it doesn't print so I'm wondering if these are related.
