07:02
<troels>
I think they are in /opt/ltsp/i386/lib/modules/2.6.16.1-ltsp-2/kernel/
07:03
<nf1>
10x I found them
07:03

only one side audio
07:38
I run skype, and when I call someone, I can hear, but I can't speak
07:39
that's an issue wich will no longer be in LTSP5 i think
07:40
<troels>
Okay then you must have gotten ALSA to work right ?
07:41
<nf1>
yes
07:41
ESD+ALSA
07:41
<troels>
I can't get that to work
07:42
<nf1>
I gotta go now, If you may try to read this about the sound: http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/SoundCards & http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/WorkInProgress#esd_ALSA_sound_on_LTSP_4_2
07:43
<troels>
ESD works but when I, check the variables LD_PRELOAD & ESPEAKER they are not set. what distro are you using ?
07:43
<nf1>
debian sid
07:43
<troels>
I'm using Xubuntu
07:43
<nf1>
with ubuntu i think it's even easer, but i never tested it
07:44
<troels>
When you open a terminal and echo $ESPEAKR and echo LD_PRELOAD
07:44

07:44

<chupacabra>
Should I get ltsp from ltsp.org or ubuntu for my new ubuntu box?
11:03
<nf1>
If you use an uptodate version of ubuntu, you can install LTSP from your package manager
11:06
<chupacabra>
6.10
11:08
seems happy with this. sudo apt-get install ltsp-server-standalone openssh-server
11:08
<nf1>
:)
11:11
<chupacabra>
what is ltsp-utils?
11:11
Dont use the ltsp-utils package from universe with this ltsp implementation, it is for a different ltsp version, installing them together will break.

mighty-d: better ask jammcq or Gadi.they are most up on the improvements..you wont see GAdi before Monday id guess
14:24
<mighty-d>
ok cliebow, but what do you think is it likely?
14:28
<cliebow>
mighty-d: you would need to be sure the web drivers are in the filesystem on the clkient..
14:29
i am not sure for instance if ovcam is in either 4.2 or ltsp5
14:30
<mighty-d>
ovcam?
14:31
<cliebow>
that is one cdamera....qc-usb is another
14:32
usb camera driver
14:32
<mighty-d>
in thin clients?
14:33
<cliebow>
so the filesystem you mount on a thin client needs to have drivers for the devices you hope to use
14:34
<mighty-d>
the filesystem on a thin client? isn't a diskless terminal?

<kusznir>
Hi all: I've got some X related ltsp questions. I'm trying to "go live" now with 5 terms (old PCs converted to terms). However, the resolution I'm getting out of ltsp is not as good as the resolution I was getting from the local X install (same base OS on the terms and the server)
15:14
Right now, ltsp is giving me 1280x960; I asked for 1400x1050 (the origional res) through the lts.conf option.
15:14
The only thing I can think of is these systems have nvidia cards, and I don't think ltsp does...
15:15
cliebow_: Is that an intel-based mac, or the powerPC-based mac?
15:16
(but then again, we used to run these systems without the nvidia drivers, and it still worked....)

cool :)

ive used 4.1 quite a while..but needed the radeon driver for the powerpc g4s..so had to try it
15:22
plus i do like the wierd science part of it..

<mchristo>
hi there
17:40
I am in the process of evaluating LTSP and I have a question concerning user sessions on thin clients
17:41
I am wondering if there is a way to join a user session in progress in order to do remote tech support... just think of an end user having problems with one of their applications
17:41
and a tech support person wants to join into the user session in order to show the user what to do, etc.... does this feature exist in LTSP?
17:41
Thanks in advance for your help...
17:43
<vagrantc>
not as part of LTSP per se ...
17:44
you could do something like that with VNC or NX i think
17:47
<mchristo>
But LTSP manages the thin client session, right? So wouldn't the "joining" of a session by a tech support person mean that LTSP is somehow involved?
17:50
<vagrantc>
LTSP is just a collection of services.
17:50
LTSP is basically NFS + DHCP + TFTP + various X protocols....
17:50
<mchristo>
ok
17:51
<vagrantc>
typically, XDMCP or ssh X11 forwarding is used, but it can also be configured to use VNC or NX
17:51
<cliebow_>
mchristo: i "shadow" clients with x11vnc c
17:52
<mchristo>
neat
17:52
<cliebow_>
i believe the new ltsp client manager is based on vnc2swf
17:52
<mchristo>
cliebow_: Can you also "interact" with their desktop
17:52
<cliebow_>
take it right over
17:53
just like vnc
17:53
<mchristo>
awesome
17:53
problem solved
17:53
vagrantc, cliebow_ thanks for your help...
17:53
<cliebow_>
ive taken over sessions in a school up in the blueberry barrens..from Paris
17:55
mchristo: wiki.ltsp.org..in experimenal is some nx and vnc stuff..but the student controlpanel....client manager looks reaaly awesome for deisty
17:56
err s/d/f
17:56
<mchristo>
I will take a look at that... thanks for the great advice.
17:57
<cliebow_>
well. the price is right 8~)
17:57
<mchristo>
LOL... free as in speech I guess.
17:57
<cliebow_>
everything evolves so fast
17:57
hard to keep up..even tuned in here all the time
17:59
i remote admin 12 schools....with an nx server in each school..and important windows machines loaded with tightvnc
17:59
so nx into the server then vnc to a secretaries desktop..
18:00
or use Teach2 to take over an ltsp client
18:05
<mchristo>
what's Teach2?
18:05
lemme google it...
18:08
It seems to be some sort of python script... not too much out there on first glance...
18:08
cliebow_: know of any good resources on teach2?
