alkisg: Boot was sucessful in the virtualbox can i boot a real machine from that configuration?
01:24
<alkisg>
Sure
01:24
As long as it's wired, not wireless
01:25
<priyank>
ok thanks let me try

<hahlo>
why sudo is disabled from fatclients? I mean is there some very good reason for it? long run it bothers little bit, harder to use
03:54F-GT has joined #ltsp
04:09
<alkisg>
hahlo: for sudo to work on the fat client the password hash would have to be stored in /etc/passwd and that is considered as a security concern by some devs
04:09
But what are you trying to do with `sudo` on a fat client?
04:10
<hahlo>
like to install programs, if possible? and configure network-interfaces lately usb-networking
04:11
<alkisg>
To install programs you use `sudo chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 apt-get install` on the server
04:11
If you do it with sudo on a fat client, you'll just install the program in its RAM, possibly crashing it
04:12
You can configure interfaces with network manager in non-system mode
04:12
(of course *not* the boot interface, only another interface if you have one)

<knipwim>
Is lp:~ltsp-docwriters/ltsp/ltsp-docs-trunk going to be tagged as 5.2.5 as well?
04:18
<hahlo>
alkisg: but I don't see network-manager applet in panel like normal ubuntu has?
04:20
<alkisg>
hahlo: in the default ubuntu fat client installation network manager is removed so that it doesn't break network booting
04:21
But you can change that behavior if you want by un-blacklisting it and by inserting an "eth0 manual" in /etc/network/interfaces
04:21
Why would you want 2 connections in the fat clients?
04:21
Are you sure that won't break your connection to the nbd server?
04:24
<hahlo>
I just would like to connect my phone with usbnetworking, not sure if that break something?
04:25
now I cannot use ltsp-fatclient to my phone tuning cause no usb-networking
04:25
<alkisg>
What is usbnetworking? Which package provides it?
04:27
<hahlo>
if I connect my phone to normal ubuntu, network-manager see it as usb0 or eth2, and manual configuration for ip
04:27
<alkisg>
So on a fat client, if you run `ifconfig -a`, you see usb0 or eth2?
04:28
<hahlo>
yes
04:28
<alkisg>
OK, then you have these options afaik:
04:29
1) switch to a root console and enable networking or enable "sudo" by specifying your password on the client
04:29
!SCREEN_02
04:29
<ltspbot>
alkisg: "SCREEN_02" :: to get a root shell on an Ubuntu thin client: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/ClientTroubleshooting#Using%20a%20shell%20SCREEN
04:29
<alkisg>
2) un-blacklist network manager and add "eth0 manual" to /etc/network/interfaces on the chroot, so that network manager works
04:29
(maybe that's the best one)
04:30
<hahlo>
ok thanks
04:30
<alkisg>
3) write eth2 to /etc/network/interfaces on the chroot, maybe that works

After upgrading from ldm-2.1.3 to ldm-2.2 on Gentoo, the LDM_SESSION (fluxbox) from lts.conf does not start. Instead I log into tvm.
04:46
anyone got any clues why this happens?

08:48
and manage thin/fat clients using your DHCP

you can bind the MAC with IP and .img file

hi. created a new user but can't login in thin client. no server response.
13:57
do i have to chroot in order to properly create new users for ltsp?
13:59
<johnny>
no
13:59
it's all on the server
13:59
soundsd like you don't have ssh on the server setup right
14:00
<baiki>
sshd logs says user "test" succeeded with login. if i use my own username to login on thin client then all is ok, but not the newly created user.
14:01
<johnny>
then you didn't give them the right permissions
14:01
or something
14:01
read your logs
14:03
<baiki>
thats my problem. logs. i studied them alreday a thousand times. but i guess i have to read more. thanks anyway
14:10
<knipwim>
johnny: do you recall why games-util/joystick is a ltsp-client dependency?
14:10
<johnny>
inputattach
14:11
baiki, look at what happens right when you login.. see why it won't establish the session
14:11
and then paste it to the pastebin
14:18
<knipwim>
johnny: shouldn't it be replaced by xf86-input-joystick ?
14:19
<johnny>
no, it includes the inputattach binary
14:19
i don't think xf86-input-joystick does
14:19
it's not actually just for the joystick

@johnny, is this helpful? [module:pam_lsass]pam_sm_open_session failed [login:test][error code: 111]
14:27
where test is the username
14:28
<johnny>
somewhat, but look for what ssh says
14:29
<baiki>
sshd[4730]: Accepted password for test from 192.168.0.22 port 41771 ssh2

15:15
<muppis>
alkisg, applications launched with SCREEN_0x -setting is runned as root, right?
15:15
<alkisg>
right
15:15
(I assume you mean shell there)
15:15
SCREEN_0x=shell...
15:16
Ah, also ldm, rdesktop etc, yes
15:17
<muppis>
So, if I put there su -c xbmc -l xbmc, it should start xbmc with username xbmc ?
15:17
<alkisg>
The screen script must exist
15:17
You can't put arbitrary commands there
15:17
So to do something like that, you should make your own screen script...
15:17
<muppis>
Ok.
15:18
<alkisg>
I think nowadays the kiosk plugin has a user and launches a command, maybe you can use that one
15:18
<muppis>
That would be nice. I could take a look at it.
