<other_other_joe>
Would the epoptes-client affect my ability to directly ssh into my clients?
14:27
I feel like the epoptes-client -c borked something with ssh config but my conf file is unchanged
14:27
<alkisg>
No
14:28
The certificate of epoptes is completely unrelated to ssh and goes to another directory
14:28
<other_other_joe>
damn
14:30
thx man
14:30
was hoping I had something to point the finger to
14:43
<alkisg>
Open a shell from epoptes, and then try to ssh to localhost

I should be able to run epoptes with X forwarding on one of the clients, right Alkisg?

14:56
<alkisg>
Sure
14:56
<other_other_joe>
ssh -X server epoptes fires it up fine
14:56
it just doesn't see any clients

if I run epoptes with ssh forwarding on the client, it should be able to see itself in the list, yea?

<alkisg>
Nah, I'd like to hear from someone using pnfs in an ltsp setup though
15:11
xnbd uses a similar approach for nbd images
15:12
And, sometimes I also use...
15:12
!local-nbd
15:12
<ltsp>
Error: "local-nbd" is not a valid command.
15:12
<alkisg>
!local-boot
15:12
<ltsp>
local-boot: If you want LTSP fat clients on a low-speed network, you can put i386.img on e.g. C:\Boot\LTSP\i386.img and use this command line in pxelinux.cfg: APPEND ro initrd=ltsp/i386/initrd.img init=/sbin/init-ltsp root=/dev/sda1 rootflags=ro loop=/Boot/LTSP/i386.img; IPAPPEND 3
15:12
<other_other_joe>
yea, I'm trying to figure a good way of using that still
15:12
I got 8gig flash cards for all my clients
15:12
<alkisg>
You can copy the image from within epoptes
15:13
select all clients, run 1 command, go for a 1h coffee, done
15:13
<other_other_joe>
well, I need to figure a good way to have them use the card unless I've made changes to the image
15:13
so boot, check the image hash, if it doesn't match download and reboot
15:13
probably
15:14
<alkisg>
If you make changes to the image, pxelinux.cfg/default gets updated, so they use the new image until you fix that file
15:14
So no need to tell the clients anything... :)
15:14
the new image ==> from the net
15:14
<other_other_joe>
haha right right
15:15
that's true, I can change the image and just reboot them all at night
15:15
the copy the new image to cache
15:15
then\
15:15

Morning folks - I'm running ltsp on ubuntu 12.04.3 with fatclients. We need to run chromium-browser with a user agent switcher (set to chrome and chrome OS) so we can access some online testing sites (NWEA). I've got chromium installed in the chroot. Is there a way to install user agent switcher and configure it from cli? Any ideas on how I would set this up?
16:01alkisg has joined IRC (alkisg!~alkisg@ubuntu/member/alkisg)

mip5: I'd imagine the same as you'd do for multiple users on a standalone system
16:05
soit's really more of a chrome+global add-ons thing

mip5: LDM doesn't support user-agent-switcher

mip5: but you could set up a chromium kiosk or something on an alternate tty from LDM

16:16
<mip5>
llcw: I was thinking the same thing, but was not sure how to do that either!
16:16
<alkisg>
vagrantc: user agent switcher is for chrome to send different headers, not for switching between user sessions....
16:16
(in case you understood the second one)
16:17
mip5: just install the plugin per user
16:17
<||cw>
I was just wondering that
16:18
<sligett>
Does LOCAL_APPS_MENU_ITEMS work in Unity environment?
16:18
<mip5>
alkisg: so, I would have to login as each user and install and set it up that way? I can definitely do that, but figured (hoped) that there would be a more efficient way.
16:18
<alkisg>
No idea, most people with ubuntu + ltsp don't use unity... :)
16:18
mip5: that part is not at all ltsp related, so ask in #ubuntu or in #mozilla etc
16:19
or #chrome etc
16:19
On how to globally install an extension
16:19
<sligett>
Well, isn't what you get w edubuntu 12.04 ltsp install unity?
16:19
<alkisg>
sligett: afaik edubuntu uses gnome-fallback by default
16:20
<mip5>
alkisg: okay - thanks, I'll do that.
16:20
<alkisg>
As it's more thin-client-friendly
16:20
Not 100% sure about it though, it might be using unity-2d as the default and just ship fallback
16:21
<sligett>
Hmmm. Well, we have a "dock" on the left side of the screen. I assumed that meant Unity.
16:21
<alkisg>
Yup, that's unity
16:21
dpkg -l gnome-session-fallback
16:22
==> that will tell you if gnome-session-fallback is installed

16:23
<sligett>
Ok, if I do that, then if I put the LOCAL_APPS, LOCAL_APPS_MENU, and LOCAL_APPS_MENU_ITEMS commands in lts.conf, wil local apps "just work"? (if installled in chroot....)
16:24
<alkisg>

16:26

Yup
16:26
<sligett>
I like magic.
16:27

Only the white one myself, I don't like zombies etc...
16:28
<sligett>
well, zombie processes haven't bothered me - just leave them to themselves is my philopsophy.
16:31
Oh, is making flash work on local-app'd Firefox simple, too? (Sorry for all the questions - googling brings up info from the 10.04 era. (a good era, that's true.)
16:32
<alkisg>
It's just about launching programs, not about magically making them work :) If ltsp-localapps firefox doesn't show flash, then LOCALAPPS_MENU* won't help.

<bcdonadio>
mgariepy, I'm getting a lot of PHP errors in the ltsp-cluster-control interface. Is it supposed to work or it's really broken?
19:46
<mgariepy>
bcdonadio, which version of ubuntu ?
19:47
bcdonadio, it hasn't been tested a lot lately.. last version of ubuntu i installed it on is 12.04, it was working fine (as fine as it can..)
19:48
<bcdonadio>
saucy
19:49
<mgariepy>
bcdonadio, can you install it on 12.04 ?
19:49
<bcdonadio>
If i use precise on ltsp-cluster-control and saucy everywhere else, should it work?
19:49
<mgariepy>
yeah
19:49
it won't be a problem since it's only serving configuration for the thin clients.
19:50
<bcdonadio>
mgariepy, ok, I will try it, thanks
19:51
<mgariepy>
bcdonadio, you are welcome

<staffencasa>
anyone wanna help me troubleshoot an issue ssh'ing into a client from my ltsp server?
22:52
<Hyperbyte>
!ask
22:52
<ltsp>
ask: Don't ask to ask a question, simply ask it, and if someone knows the answer, they'll respond. Please hang around for at least a full hour after asking a question, as not everybody constantly monitors the channel.

Hey hyperbyte, I hope I did not make you made a while ago, when you !ask ed me
23:42
It seemed like you might have gotten a little frustrated, but I wanted to make sure there was no hard feelings, and if so, I am sorry
23:42
Staffencasa, what issue are you having?
23:48
<Hyperbyte>
bennabiy, there are no hard feelings. It's just annoying that people don't say -what- they want.
23:48
Or at least specifically say. If staffencasa had provided some more info, perhaps an error message he's getting, both you and I could've given him an answer already.
23:49
That's why I !ask... :-) It's what it's there for.
