Hi
05:10
When running ltsp-build-client it errors our with: ln : creating symbolic link `/dev/fd' to `/proc/self/fd`: file exists
05:10
how can i fix this ?
05:12
<ogra>
dont install to an unclean target
05:13
i.e. sudo rm -rf /opt/ltsp/i386 && sudo ltsp-build-client
05:14
<cliebow_>
ogra: most of my problems went away when my hard drive crapped out and i installed ne.all that is left is wirerlss card is detected as a wired card
05:15
<ogra>
you mean it doesnt show up in iwconfig ? or how do you define "wirerlss card is detected as a wired card"
05:15
?
05:16
<cliebow_>
it dies not
05:16
the card is found but ubuntu thinks it is not wireless
05:16
wont accept essid or key

<envite>
it depends
05:41
do you have dhcp 3 or previous?
05:41
<Bhaskar>
envite, i have k12ltsp in FC5
05:41
<envite>
no idea :(
05:41
try /etc/dhcpd.conf
05:42
<Bhaskar>
envite, ok
05:42
<cliebow_>
envite:he can set things in lts.conf by mac address
05:42
<ogra>
that wont solve the PXE problem though
05:42
<cliebow_>
bhaskar:is that a real old pxe?
05:42
<Bhaskar>
cliebow_, syntax
05:42
<envite>
cliebow_: yeah, I know, but I think it's better to leave MAc things to dhcp and use only names in lts.conf
05:42
<Bhaskar>
cliebow_, no new pxe
05:42
<ogra>
you dont need to set a MAC address anywhere
05:42
<cliebow_>
true..didnt look
05:43
<ogra>
PXE roadcacsts and should get an answer ... if it doesnt the answer was wrong or didnt come at all ... check your dhcp server
05:43
*broadcasts
05:44
<Bhaskar>
ogra, dhcp is ok
05:44
<ogra>
obviously not
05:44
else your PXE would work :)
05:45
<Bhaskar>
ogra, ping from client also ok, checking from other OS
05:45
in Client PXE is enabled
05:45
<ogra>
do yu see PXE recieving *anything* on the screen while booting ? or does it directly error out
05:45
<Bhaskar>
but not booting from PXE
05:46
ogra, client directly goes to another system
05:46
<ogra>
to a locally installed one ?
05:46
<Bhaskar>
ogra, any config. in BIOS of client
05:47
<zald>
question: why is that when i start my client it say "no screen found", but the server has gnome desktop environment install
05:47
<ogra>
well, then fix these BIOS settings ... so it boots from the NET ...
05:47
<Bhaskar>
ogra, Boot priority?
05:48
<ogra>
zald, thats a message from yur xserver (graphics driver) that it couldnt autodetect your card or monitor directly ....
05:48
<envite>
zald: that sounds as a LOCAL X server error
05:48
<ogra>
Bhaskar, no idea whats wrong, i'm no BIOS expert ...

ps aux | grep gdm it say "/usr/libexec/gdmopen -l /bin/sh -c /etc/gdm/XKeepsCrashing -noopen"
05:49
<ogra>
yes, your gdm cant start because your xserver didnt find any screens to display something on
05:50
<zald>
how do i fix this
05:50
<ogra>
so it shows the XKeepsCrashing dialog
05:50
<zald>
because im running the xserver to another machine , not on the ltsp server itself
05:50
<ogra>
sure, thats how ltsp works
05:51
the xserver runs on the client ...
05:51
<zald>
thats the error upon boot-up
05:51
<ogra>
the users session runs on the server ...
05:51
<zald>
no screens found
05:51
<ogra>
right
05:52
your graphics card isnt detected or unsupported ... or your monitor is returning totally wrong vanuels during the autodetection
05:52
*values
05:52
<zald>
but when i put into my default setup to run the xserver on the ltsp server it works, but changing to another x server i doesnt
05:52
<ogra>
i'd try a differetnt monitor first
05:52
???
05:52
<zald>
okay ill try it first
05:52
<ogra>
how do you mean ?
05:53
where do you put a "default setup" ?
05:53
<zald>
before my xserver runs on ltsp server itself
05:53
<ogra>
your xserver always runso on the client
05:53
it *never* runs on the ltsp server
05:55
<zald>
?
05:55MoL0ToV has quit IRC
05:55
<ogra>
the xserver never runs on the server ...
05:56
if you boot a client it starts the kernel, autodetects all confguration and then starts an X server ...
05:56
locally
05:56MoL0ToV has joined #ltsp
05:56
<ogra>
then it either starts a local login manager (ltsp5) or runs an X query on the net to connect to a server via xdmcp ...

16:22
<jammcq>
ok, sounds like it can't find the file
16:23
<mrchicken>
weird thing is ... I have nothing that resembles that line in my dhcpd.conf
16:23
lemme doublecheck
16:23
<jammcq>
pxelinux.0 is a 2nd stage boot loader. the first thing it will do, is attempt to download a configuration file
16:23
usually called pxelinux.cfg/default
16:24
<mrchicken>
option root-path "192.168.99.4:/opt/ltsp/i386/";
16:24
filename "/lts/2.6.16.1-ltsp-1/pxelinux.0" ah there it is
16:24
<jammcq>
mrchicken: that's not it
16:24
there ya go
16:25
but.... I gotta run
16:25
<mrchicken>
so I should try and find a pxelinux.0?
16:25
and put the appropiate path in there?
16:25
<jammcq>
you should already have it
16:25
if you installed either LTSP-4.2 or LTSP-5, you should have it
16:25
<mrchicken>
[root@ltsp ~]#
16:26
./tftpboot/lts/2.6.16.1-ltsp-2/pxelinux.0
16:26
so I should change my root dir?
16:26
<jammcq>
NO
16:26
it has nothing to do with root-dir
16:26
rootdir is used by NFS, AFTER the kernel is loaded
16:26
<mrchicken>
then why on earth am I getting the not found!!
16:26
<jammcq>
what distro are you using?
16:26
<mrchicken>

16:27
<jammcq>
ok, change your 'filename' entry to include the leading '/tftpboot' on it

<jammcq>
ok
17:24
<Regnad>
In reality the file contains ltspadmin and ltspcfg (as expected)
17:24
<jammcq>
hmm
17:24
I don't know who the maintainer of that package is
17:25
<Regnad>
Is there any good place on the Wiki I could post that the right people would see it?
17:25
<jammcq>
no, best thing would be to look at the email address for teh packager, and send him an email
17:26
<Regnad>
Lemme see here... " Scott Balneaves [sbalneav@ltsp.org]"
17:27
<jammcq>
no
17:27
oooh
17:27
oh, that package
17:27
sorry
17:27
I was thinking you meant the package in the debian repository
17:27
you could email scott at that address
17:28
<Regnad>
Yeah, I'll do that. It's an easy fix, and people love to hear about easy fixes.
17:28

Ok, I give, what IS the right URL from which to retrieve packages?
19:29
"http://www.ltsp.org/ltsp-4.2/" doesn't seem to be the right one (404 error)
19:35
Oh well, perhaps the mirror would be a good starting point...
