zeitsofa: no, I don't know anything like that in ltsp. nx supports it though.
05:21

is there a way to combinate nx and ltsp to do this?
05:22
<alkisg>
You could make a different login screen that uses nx... but I don't know anyone that has done it.

<EricLMG>
good morning all
10:27
I have a question regarding the setup of my LTSP server. We set up the server and a single app server. The first time I load up a new thin client, it logs into the app server correctly, but then on every subsequent boot, the thin clients are logging into the ltsp server instead of the app server.

could someone please help with an issue i am having with my ltsp server? for some reason, my thin clients are being directed to the ltsp server instead of the app server, and I can't figure out why
11:08Faithful has joined #ltsp
11:13
<Appiah>
" directed" ?
11:15
<alkisg>
EricLMG: distro/version/lts.conf/dhcpd.conf?
11:15
<mhull>
alkisg, i'm with EricLMG... we are using the ltsp loadbalancer
11:17
the thin clients connect to the application server as they should be once, but after they've been defined in the ltsp-cluster admin page, they always connect to the actual ltsp load balancing server rather than the app server
11:17
<alkisg>
The LTSP-cluster loadbalancer? Or a custom loadbalancer implementation, like it's documented in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LDMLoadbalancingSupport ?
11:17
OK, sorry, no idea about ltsp cluster
11:18
<EricLMG>
its exactly as documented in wiki
11:20
<alkisg>
I'm seeing on ldm.c that some info is logged about the balancing
11:20
So, check ldm.log locally, maybe you'll find some clues there
11:21
loginfo("IP before balancing: %s",ldm.server); // loginfo("Balancing failed to get an IP"); // logerr("Balancing failed"); etc

Also check what "getltscfg-cluster -l ldm" tells you (again locally)
11:26
<mhull>
getltscfg-cluster -l ldm returns nothing
11:27
any idea what this might be: "code 400, message Bad request syntax ('getkey')"
11:28
that's showing up in ltsp-cluster-lbserver.log

hey guys, configuring ltsp on ubuntu. Everything seems to be working fine, up til client login. It authenticates, then throws "getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)" Any ideas what might cause it?

yes

before I did that the login itself was timing out, now it seems to putter out when launching X
13:04
<atkuepker>
ah, that's different from a login failure.

any ideas on what to look at? googling has helped much yet

if you're having X problems, the .xsession-errors file will probably be needful.
13:08
Those issues are sometimes difficult to sort out though. Unlike most folks, we've had an awful time here dealing with i845 Intel video drivers
13:11
<Grindar>
where would that file be stashed?
13:12
<atkuepker>
home directory of the user that's logging in
13:12Faithful has quit IRC
13:12
<Grindar>
ok, checking it now
13:15
hmm, I don't see that file, or anything close to that
13:16
in fact, my home directory has nothing but the default folders
13:17
<atkuepker>
did you specify the file or use the '-a' flag?
13:18
<Grindar>
ah, -a did it.
13:20
"please ask your system administrator to enable user sharing."

can't help you with that one. We have that stuff turned off for HIPAA compliance.

hello :) my thinclients always have 800x600 but in the ltsp.conf X_MODE_0 = 1024x768. it's a bug oder user error?

actually, that doesn't seem to be cause of crash...it's earlier. trying to copy from virtual machine :p

<alkisg>
zeitsofa: the monitor frequencies are probably not detected correctly. What graphics card / monitor does your client have?
13:38
<zeitsofa>
alkisg: monitor atm is an old NEC LCD 2010 - and graphic card i don't know atm
13:38
<alkisg>
Do you know the correct resolution for your monitor? E.g. 1024x768@60Hz?
13:40
<zeitsofa>
yes its true
13:41
<Grindar>
let me reboot my thin client and I'll give it a shot
13:41
<alkisg>
Grindar: a logoff should suffice
13:41
<Grindar>
not when it was frozen >.<
13:41
<alkisg>
Heh ,ok
13:42
zeitsofa: try putting those in your lts.conf:
13:42
[Default]
13:42
X_HORZSYNC=30.0-88.0
13:42
X_VERTREFRESH=59.0-61.0

13:43
<alkisg>
Then reboot the client and see if it works.
13:43
Grindar: if you're using thin clients (as opposed to fat), then just on the server.
13:43
<zeitsofa>
alkisg: thx i'll try
13:46
<Grindar>
ok, entered the command, trying it :p
13:48
<zeitsofa>
alkisg: looks little bit better - the font is very very small now
13:48
<alkisg>
zeitsofa: open a gnome terminal, and enter: xrandr
13:48
You'll see the active mode and the available modes.
13:49
<zeitsofa>
ah ok
13:49
1024x768 61.0
13:50
<alkisg>
That's all? No other modes? Do you also have an X_MODE_0 in your lts.conf?
13:51
<zeitsofa>
just a moment i'll create a nopaste
13:51
<Grindar>
ok, trying again, but nothing happened after I disabled compiz
13:52
went to a terminal screen that was basically frozen with a spinning white circle (hourglass equivalent)
13:54
<zeitsofa>
alkisg: http://nopaste.info/b4fb4c8793.html
13:56
<Grindar>
yep, did the same again
13:56
<alkisg>
zeitsofa: ok, if you think that 1024x768 is not appropriate, you can try different modes from System > Preferences > Monitor settings (or similar - I don't have english menus)
13:57
<zeitsofa>
alkisg: german?
13:57
<alkisg>
zeitsofa: also, do you need XSERVER=vesa?
13:57
If you remove that, maybe it'll correctly autodetect your monitor
13:57
No, Greek
13:57
<zeitsofa>
alkisg: i turn it of but it is the same
13:57
<alkisg>
Do turn it off then, it's faster without vesa
13:58
Grindar: does your server have a GUI? Or is it headless?
13:59
<zeitsofa>
ok i found a good solution for me :)
13:59
<Grindar>
server has a gui
13:59

thx a lot

Grindar: try logging in on the server with that user
14:01
<Grindar>
yep. not a problem there
14:04
<alkisg>
OK, try to collect some extra info
14:04
auth.log from the server,
14:04
ldm.log from the client,
14:04
~/.xsession-errors etc
14:05
<Grindar>
you want me to pastebin them?
14:06
<alkisg>
Not the whole auth.log - just see that each time a user tries to connect on a client, you actually get a successful authentication there
14:06
I think you can pastebin the other 2 :)
14:08
<Grindar>
ok, here's the xsession errors
14:08
glib-critical **:g_once_init_leave:assertion 'initialization_value !=0' failed
14:08

silly can't copy between my lappy and the virtual machine...
14:10
ok, looking for the rest

hi
15:43
I have some old thin client which only support RDP protocol.. I have Linux Server , What Software/Server I should install for thin client setup.
15:43
Or may you guide for better IRC channel
15:44
<alkisg>
LTSP sends its own OS to the clients, so they'll support other protocols too.
15:44
Don't they support PXE booting?
15:44
<Appiah>
PXE boot the thin client
15:44
