!seen vagrantc
06:54
<ltsp>
vagrantc was last seen in #ltsp 4 days, 0 hours, 40 minutes, and 49 seconds ago: <vagrantc> yes, thats exciting
06:54work_alkisg is now known as alkisg
06:59stan has joined IRC (stan!75d82f24@gateway/web/freenode/ip.117.216.47.36)
07:00stan is now known as Guest3459
07:01
<Guest3459>
Can anyone pls guide me why this /dev/ttyACMo port is not working on LTSP client side
07:02
<alkisg>
You're probably using thin clients and are checking the server ports instead of the client ports
07:03
Try running `ltsp-localapps xterm` first
07:05
<Guest3459>
ok i will try and tell you the output now
07:06
i will tell you my requirements first
07:07
i have thin client environment and i installed a application in server name arduino and the board is connected through USB ports.
07:07
<alkisg>
Are you "ame" that was trying arduino a few days ago?
07:08
<Guest3459>
For the ports to run correctly we need to set permission as chmod a+rw /dev/ttyACM0
07:08
yes i logged in as ame but my name change to guest it seems
07:08
<alkisg>
Did you try ltsp-pnp?
07:08
<Guest3459>
sorry i cant change to ltsp-pnp now because there is no downtime
07:09
and i am the only person to work on..
07:09
And i am also new to this environment
07:09
i think you understand my situation
07:09
<alkisg>
Yes, that's why I'm proposing the easy way and you're selecting the hard way :)
07:09
Anyway, ok, go on...
07:10
Continue with the chmod +w that you were saying
07:10
(you'll find 10 other problems later on without ltsp-pnp...)
07:10
<Guest3459>
the only problem i am facing is this arduino board detection on client side..
07:10
<alkisg>
No, that's not the only problem
07:10
It's the first problem
07:10
You'll find 10 more problems once you solve this one :)
07:10
Let me help you with the first problem
07:11
You put this in lts.conf:
07:11
RCFILE_01="chmod +w /dev/ttyACMo"
07:11
<Guest3459>
I will try to change to ltsp-pnp as soon as possible.Before that there is an hurry for this tool to work on
07:11
<alkisg>
And your permissions are now ok
07:11
With ltsp-pnp you can do it in 2 hours
07:11
Without ltsp-pnp you'll need 2 weeks
07:11
Select whatever you want :)
07:11
But don't say it's because of downtime, you need no downtime for that
07:11
<Guest3459>
i understand
07:12
but we need to do some configurations right??
07:12
<alkisg>
You need 2 weeks of configuration without ltsp-pnp, or 2 hours with ltsp-pnp
07:12
In both cases you need configuration, installing programs etc
07:13
<Guest3459>
but everything set and working now except this board detection
07:13
<alkisg>
No
07:13
It's only the first problem
07:13
<Guest3459>
oh
07:13
<alkisg>
You just have not realized yet that you'll get another 10 problems after that
07:13
<Guest3459>
then ok i will try to change that soon
07:13
<alkisg>
If you want to listen to me, do this:
07:13
Forget about your existing server
07:13
Install a new one with ltsp-pnp
07:14
Then boot a client, make arduino work etc
07:14
That will take you 1 hour
07:14
Then, copy the image you created to your existing server
07:14
That will take you another hour, and you're done
07:14
<Guest3459>
Image in the sense
07:14
??
07:14
<alkisg>
/opt/ltsp/images/i386.img
07:15
<Guest3459>
In the same location??
07:15
<alkisg>
Yes
07:15
<Guest3459>
but you said that there is no need for any image for ltsp-pnp
07:15
<alkisg>
No
07:15
I said there's no chroot
07:15
<Guest3459>
oh
07:16
you know i cant get exact clarity on configuring the ltsp-pnp...thats the main pblm
07:16
<alkisg>
Let's try now.
07:16
<Guest3459>
i cant able to continue with the document you gave to me
07:17
ok am ready
07:17
<alkisg>
Do you have a client that you can install ubuntu on, as a test server?
07:17
E.g. a dual core client with 2 gb ram?
07:17
<Guest3459>
yes i do have
07:17
<alkisg>
OK, start with installing ubuntu i386 desktop there
07:17
<Guest3459>
ok
07:17
<alkisg>
When you're done installing ubuntu, ping me
07:17
<Guest3459>
sure then..thank you alkisg
07:17
<alkisg>
Ah, and make arduino work there, before installing ltsp
07:18
I.e. setup a client like you would do it without ltsp at all
07:18
Then we'll make it an ltsp server in 30 minutes
07:19
<Guest3459>
but i need to configure dhcp and all network configuration except building a image..right??
07:19
<alkisg>
No
07:19
Ignore anything you've read so far
07:19
<Guest3459>
ok
07:19
<alkisg>
Just install a simple ubuntu workstation
07:20
No dhcp, no network configuration, nothing
07:20
<Guest3459>
just to install ubuntu i386 and ??
07:20
<alkisg>
And make arduino work
07:20
<Guest3459>
ok
07:20
but i want many softwares also to work
07:20
<alkisg>
Put all that software too
07:20
<Guest3459>
e.g:Libreoffice,mozilla
07:20
ok
07:20
<alkisg>
The desktop cd already has libreoffice and firefox
07:20
You don't need to install it
07:20
It's preinstalled
07:20
<Guest3459>
ok
07:21
But other than all applications should be installed right??
07:21
<alkisg>
Yes if you want some application that is not preinstalled, you need to install it from software center
07:21
<Guest3459>
ok
07:22
<alkisg>
The idea is "create a single ubuntu workstation the way you want it, with all the software etc, and without ltsp"
07:22
<Guest3459>
And i do have many File systems and permissions on my existing server alkisg...
07:22
No problem for my existing file systems right??
07:22
<alkisg>
No problem, no
07:23
What file systems and permissions?
07:23
Is there something you want for your *clients* too?
07:24
<Guest3459>
I have created a LVM and many directories in that and Applied permission on the folder based on the users and make a softlink and kept it on users desktop to access it
07:24
<alkisg>
The clients will be able to access the server file system via sshfs
07:24
Automatically.
07:25
It doesn't matter if it's lvm or whatever else
07:25
<Guest3459>
I have mounted that LVM on /mnt on my server
07:25
<alkisg>
OK, no problem, go on
07:25
<Guest3459>
Like now right??
07:25
<alkisg>
Install the template workstation.
07:25
<Guest3459>
ok then i will install and ping you soon
07:26
<alkisg>
OK, I'll leave in about 1 hour, we can go on later if you don't find me today
07:26
<Guest3459>
Thank you a lot because i dont have anyone to help on this....Am alone
07:26
sure but may i know what time you will be available on tomorrow
07:27
<alkisg>
Sorry, holidays start tomorrow... I'll be online for a few hours per day, but not standard hours.
07:29
<Guest3459>
ok then i will text you once you will be online just reply
07:30
ubuntu version is not a pblm right??
07:30
<alkisg>
For 12.04 you need a ppa
07:30
For 14.04 you don't need a ppa
07:30
Which one will you use?
07:30
<Guest3459>
i have already installed installed ubuntu 12.04 alternate version on my existingn serevr
07:31
<alkisg>
Anyway download 14.04 i386 desktop
07:31
And install with that one
07:31
<Guest3459>
it is not going to be a problem right??
07:31
<alkisg>
No
07:31
<Guest3459>
12.04 and 14.04
07:31
<alkisg>
No problem
07:32
<Guest3459>
okay
07:32
i will install 14.04 Desktop
07:32
<alkisg>
i386
07:32
<Guest3459>
on the system am going to install now
07:32
<alkisg>
Cool
07:32
<Guest3459>

#ltsp Hello, I have a fresh install of Edubuntu 14.04.1-64-bit runnining on ESXi. updated to latest packages. Running gnome-fallback. All lab PCs cpnnect and users are able to log in. Have an issue when users try to shutdown or restart, nothing happens. The only way for a user to get out is to logout. After this the clint can be shutdown from ldm
20:38
this was happening on a default install as well. No updates, no customizations.
20:39
We were running Edubuntu 12.04 and had simmilar issues where the Shutdown and restart options in gnome were not working when slected
20:39
happening on various machines, AMD and intel.
20:50
Merry Christmas. Just found a solution. Related to Cairo-Dock, even thou we are using Gnome classic.
