<TFDL>
Hello there,
04:06
i have an ltsp thin server and client ubuntu 10.04 setup and working.
04:07
because the thin server and client machines have very different hardwares,
04:07
I could rotate the screen on the server right using XRANDR -o right but I can not do the same on the client.
04:08
could you please give me a pointer or some sort of direction to carry on from here. I have tried a lot of different ways before i come here to ask, but i got no luck so far.

Hi guys
13:21
New ltsp server setup
13:22
When logging in I get no menus, just background. the following message is located in the server syslog
13:22
"compiz.desktop respawning too quickly"
13:23
tried unity --reset but reports as deprecated
13:32
<workingcats>
jbassett, try a ubuntu live cd to see if unity works on the system
13:33
<jbassett>
User is able to log in fine on the server, just not using an ltsp client
13:33
I have turned off tunnelling over ssh to improve speed too
13:38
<workingcats>
try a live cd to see if the clients can run unity

<TFDL>
hello i have a question above, can you please help pointing me to where i can find documentations or instruction. so thanksful!
16:22
<||cw>
TFDL: depends on the card and if you want/need proprietary drivers or not
16:23
if not, just make sure the needed xorg driver is in the chroot
16:23
adding nvidia or ati proprietary drivers is quite a lot more involved.
16:26
<TFDL>
||cw: thanks so much this project is for our TFDL library at the University of Calgary
16:27
the driver is is Unichrome
16:27
I have the driver download from VIA who made our small computers we use for thin clients
16:28
VIA driver Unichrome claims to support Ubuntu
16:29
my Ubuntu version is 10.04 LTS x86
16:31
can you please tell me what you mean by: "just make sure the needed xorg ddriver is in the chroot"?
16:32
I think at this point i will decide to put off the "adding proprietary drivers" option.
16:33
i will not pursue this option, and find workarround insttead, but i when i get better at ltsp i will take another look at it.

<moldy>
hi
16:35
what is the difference between LDM_ALLOW_GUEST and LDM_GUESTLOGIN?
16:41
<workingcats>
TFDL, you need to chroot into what is used to build the thin client image, install the driver (*DO* check if it is in your distro package repository, driver downloads from hw vendors for linux are even worse than for windows - yes, this is possible), then rebuild the image
16:41
well thats how it works on my setup, not entirely sure if it's the only possible LTSP setup
16:42
ah ok, sounds like it's not in the repos: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UniChrome
16:44
<TFDL>
workingcats: i am going to check for my distor package repository.
16:45
workingcats: can you please show me a documentation for this task "you need to chroot into what is used to build the thin client image, install the driver"
16:46
<||cw>
!chroot
16:46
<ltsp>
I do not know about 'chroot', but I do know about these similar topics: 'ltsp-chroot'
16:46
<workingcats>
TFDL, well for me the "source" of the image is in /opt/ltsp/i386 and i prefer bash, so the command is: linux32 chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 /bin/bash
16:46
<||cw>
!ltsp-chroot
16:46
<ltsp>
ltsp-chroot: you can download ltsp-chroot from http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ltsp-upstream/ltsp/ltsp-trunk/view/head:/server/scripts/debian/ltsp-chroot
16:47
<workingcats>
the linux32 is necessary because the server runs 64bit but the clients run 32bit
16:47
ah there you go
16:49
<||cw>
that's old, you should already have the script
16:49
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP
16:50
<TFDL>
i feel very dull because i am not getting a clear understand on what you all ve said.
16:50
<||cw>
TFDL: here's the nvidia instructions, unicrome will be similar https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/AtomIon
16:50workingcats has left IRC (workingcats!~workingca@85.232.30.129, Quit: Verlassend)

<||cw>
TFDL: this is a faily advanced task, if you're new to linux, you will be learning a lot as you do it.
16:51moldy has left IRC (moldy!~rene@unaffiliated/moldy, Quit: leaving)

<||cw>
and if your host is 64bit, it's going to be a bit harder since the normal installers won't like it
16:52
<TFDL>
thanks <||cw> i will keep trying ...
16:52
<||cw>
one work around for that is to only 2 client active and set the nbd as read/write and install from a client. that will invalidate your chroot though.
16:52
<TFDL>
my host is x86 or 32 bits
16:52
<||cw>
that's fine then. those nvidia instructions should work well for you
16:53
just replace the nv parts with the unicrome install parts
16:53
<TFDL>
can you please resend the nvidia instructions <||cw>?
16:54
i mean the link?
16:56
ah, right here, i could not follow the conversation https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/AtomIon
16:58
thanks <||cw> again and again.

hello folks, been seeing an odd issue I wonder if anyone might have any insight on
17:42
I'm running a fat client setup and, on occasion, some of my users will spawn multiple auth sessions on my host server
17:42
this causes subsequent weirdness
17:43
it's possibly related to xscreensaver locking them
17:44
after it locks they're dropped back in ldm after a time. This is intermittant though.
17:45alkisg has joined IRC (alkisg!~alkisg@ubuntu/member/alkisg)

they then come back and log back in. This is when the multiple auth's occur

the root server is what hands out the image the clients boot off

it also runs the ltsp cluster control center

you can run all the services of ltsp-cluster on the same server, we like to split services to support more load and such, but it's not necessary at all.

I am having lagging issues in virtualbox over ltsp is it because of graphical lacks in the server?
