Upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04... all went well. Configured the dnsmasq and so on from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/ProxyDHCP
17:54
Now thinclients are being rejected by the nbd server.
17:55
<Pecker>
ltsp-update-sshkeys
17:55
just to make sure
17:55
<blakes>
I'll try that.
17:56
<Pecker>
i remember i had to update the keys once before when think clinets would boot right
17:56
e wouldnt boot right
17:56
er
17:57
bad typing again....
17:57
<blakes>
not the sshkeys. same result.
17:58
<Pecker>
update image too
17:58
<blakes>
Which ndb server answers the call, the one from the inetd.conf or the one running as a service? Already updated the image.
17:58
<Pecker>
other than that i never have used a proxy server
17:58
the nbd conf is in the ltsp files somewhere
17:59
man ltsp services get to be a mess when trying to hunt down a cfg
17:59
sorry i cant help more
18:00
<blakes>
If I had hair on my head, I'd be tearing it out, for sure. Good thing I have a backup of my working 10.04lts config
18:01
<Pecker>
ah backups. nice
18:04
<vagrantc>
Pecker: did you also upgrade or re-install the chroot?
18:04
er, blakes ^^
18:05
<blakes>
I did not change the chroot yet
18:05
<vagrantc>
that will likely cause problems
18:06
switched from running the nbd root stuff from inetd to nbd-server
18:06
<blakes>
the thin client is booting to the busybox prompt, but the nbd server is refusing the connection
18:06
<vagrantc>
which also involves a port change, and the older code may not handle that well
18:06
and a protocol change, actually
18:07
<blakes>
I have tried disabling the inetd.conf section and let the nbd server handle the request but got the same result. Could the interface be blocking the port?

Need some help with Centrify and AD authentication.. I have Centrify installed and I can login to the server with any AD account no problem. But when I try to login from the thin client it fails, and tells me user not found... any ideas where to start looking? (ubuntu 10.10 ltsp)
18:10
<vagrantc>
blakes: the old chroot doesn't support the new nbd-server-based setup, it would only support the inetd style
18:11
<blakes>
Ok...
18:12
I also having a new error when I restart the nbd server:
18:12
WARNING **: Could not parse config file: Could not find required value port in group ltsp_i386: Key file does not have key 'port'
18:12
the config file DOES have the port= 2000 entry in the ltsp_i386 section... wtf?
18:13
<vagrantc>
it probably tried to convert the old setup on upgrade
18:14
<bieb>
anybody??
18:14
<vagrantc>
blakes: it seems like you should probably rebuild your chroot
18:14
blakes: fully backing up the old setup, of course
18:15
<blakes>
Ok... I will rebuild the chroot, but I don't get why the nbd server won't restart now.

18:17
<blakes>
Thanks vagrantc! I will try to rebuild the chroot and see where that gets me.

Hi, I'm trying to use nbdswap with 12.04

Now I want to make sure I've configured nbdswap correctly. In dmesg I see a lot of "nbd9: unknown partition table"
18:33
<vagrantc>
Hyperbyte: that's a false alarm
18:33
<Hyperbyte>
Ah
18:33
So how can I verify that the nbdswap is working?
18:33
<vagrantc>
Hyperbyte: essentially when ldm starts, there's a hook that tries to verify if there's a new nbd image by creating a connection on nbd9
18:34
Hyperbyte: ltsp-localapps xterm, and then try the "free" command.
18:34
Hyperbyte: that should tell you if it's configured
18:34
<Hyperbyte>
It says there's 511 mb swap, but 0 used.
18:34
But it hasn't ran out of memory yet - working on that as we speak. :)
18:34
<vagrantc>
sure
18:35
probably wouldn't be hard to write a C program that dumps gunk to memory until you reach a certain amount of swap
18:35
seems like people really want that confirmation that it's working
18:35* vagrantc notes that issues come in waves
18:35

18:39

ltsp-build-client completes successfully, but drops thinclient to busybox prompt without errors. Now what? (ubuntu 12.04 lts)
20:41
<stgraber>
did you run /etc/init.d/nbd-server restart?
20:41
I believe ltsp-build-client tells you to do that just after compressing the chroot
20:48
<blakes>
stgraber, thanks, I'll try that. Am creating another image after tweaking the ltsp-build-client.conf (minimal late packages).

bieb, does the home dir for the user exist?

yes. now they are.... although i have my 10.04 chroot tarballed
21:26
<stgraber>
ok. Can you put /etc/nbd-server/config, /etc/nbd-server/conf.d/ltsp_i386.conf and /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default in a pastebin?

blakes: your /etc/nbd-server/config looks wrong
21:37
blakes: try: sudo cp /usr/share/nbd-server/nbd-server.conf.tmpl /etc/nbd-server/config
21:37
blakes: then: sudo /etc/init.d/nbd-server restart
21:38
<blakes>
I am sure it does ;)
21:39
<stgraber>
you were basically definiting ltsp_i386 twice and one of the two had an incorrect path which would explain why you couldn't connect to it at boot
21:40
<blakes>
hmmm... no definitions in the nbd-server config? Well, the result was the same... just dumped to the busybox prompt without an error.
21:41
<stgraber>
the /config file says that it includes everything from /etc/nbd-server/conf.d/* which includes the ltsp_i386 export
21:41
anything from nbd in /var/log/syslog?
21:41
is nbd-server running on the server?
21:43
<blakes>
appears to be running
21:44
<stgraber>
anything from nbd_server in /var/log/sys/log?
21:44
*syslog
21:45
<blakes>
formally the nbd server was started with inetd. those lines are commented now in inetd.conf
21:45
checking syslog
21:45
<stgraber>
you should be getting things like that in syslog:
21:45
Aug 13 18:28:04 ltsp nbd_server[9400]: connect from 172.17.0.51, assigned file is /opt/ltsp/images/i386.img
21:45
and if not, hopefully some kind of error
21:47
<blakes>
grep nbd_server /var/log/syslog returns nothing. lots of dnsmasq info though.
21:47
<stgraber>
ok
21:48
in the initramfs prompt, run:
21:48
sh -x /scripts/local-top/nbd
21:48
and look for error messages in there
21:49
<blakes>
can't open /local-top
21:50
whoopa
21:51
the initramfs command yields that there is "insufficient information to load nbd" and it looks like the Port= section is missing.
21:52
and nbd-device
21:53
<stgraber>
can you pastebin your dhcp configuration (/etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf probably)?
21:57
<blakes>
so with dnsmasq (at least as written in the instructions) the dnsmasq replaces the dhcp server, thereby making the /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf irrelevant. So I'll pastebin the dnsmasq config?
21:58
stgraber: http://pastebin.com/U4q0BwYB
22:02
<stgraber>
blakes: comment the rootpath line
22:02
(line 25)
22:03
the rest might be fine, I don't usually use dnsmasq, so can't be sure
22:03
try with line 25 commented and restart dnsmasq, that might be enough
22:05
<blakes>
trying again while looking through http://irclogs.ltsp.org/?d=2011-11-02 as "lifeboy" was having a similar problem
22:06
your change had no affect. I think I need a nbd-device name
22:07
<stgraber>
you probably want to reboot the thin client instead of just re-executing /scripts/local-top/nbd as from what you pasted earlier it doesn't seem to be getting the whole of the initramfs environment
22:14
<blakes>
rebooted, then sh -x /scripts/local-top/nbd: Failure: Insufficient information to set up nbd, quitting (nbdroot=:ltsp_i386, host=192.168.0.254, name=ltsp_i386, port=,nbd-device=)
22:15
So I added port=to the nbd-config.d file and it gave me an error upon restart
