Hi all. I am trying to change the ldm theme for ltsp, I have found this tut - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/LDMThemeChange - its specific to ubuntu 8.04 but i thought id see if the same principles apply, unfortunately its not working. Is there a newer tut I can follow to change the ldm theme for ltsp?

vnc786: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1020048
08:26
To work around it, you increase the timeout in cups.conf, read the report there
08:26
<meamy>
vnc786: mm scince a FAT client pretty much acts like a normal ubuntu desktop I dont see the realtion to ltsp, beside that its it could be a network problem (if the CUPS server is not reachable libre will not see him). As fare as i know libre office use the system default printer
08:27
<alkisg>
The problem is that the cups server (which is remote in fat clients) considers inactive the connections after 5 minutes,
08:27
and libreoffice then gets connection errors
08:27
The fix will come in a future libreoffice version, they'll support reconnections
08:27
The workaround is to increase the timeout in cups
08:28
<meamy>
alkisg: Oh good to know did not stumble over that problem yet thanks for the info

Is there a way to blacklist or un-blacklist drivers on clients from lts.conf?
18:46
<vagrantc>
no, but could write a hook in init-ltsp.d that might be early enough, if the initramfs doesn't load the module.
18:46
<alkisg>
And it would be useful upstream, I remember wanting to do that a couple of times...
18:47
<lykwydchykyn>
I think in my case the problem starts in the initramfs
18:47
NIC driver
18:47
<vagrantc>
that you'll pretty much have to handle manually
18:48
<lykwydchykyn>
Do I need to do separate boot images?
18:48
<alkisg>
break=top would help in troubleshooting it
18:48
If you manually find what's needed, then we can advice on how to automate it...

...in /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default
18:49
You'll get an initramfs prompt before udev loads drivers
18:50
<lykwydchykyn>
Ah ok
18:51
<alkisg>
(you can manually blacklist things there,for testing)
18:53
<lykwydchykyn>
Well basically I have clients with two different models of realtek nic
18:53
They both use r8169 by default, but WOL is broken in r8169
18:54
If I install r8168, the one client works fine with WOL, but the other one doesn't work at all (no network, no NBD, no OS)
18:54
<alkisg>
I think this also works, in pxelinux.cfg/01-mac-address: modulename.disabled=1 => it throws an error with something about "I don't know the option 'disabled'" and it doesn't load it :D
18:54
<vagrantc>
clever...
18:54
<jammcq>
sneaky
18:55
<lykwydchykyn>
That might work...
18:56
<alkisg>
Ah, I don't know if it'll fall back to the next module though. If it doesn't, and you don't want to mess with the pciid maps, you might want to just have 2 initramfs'es
19:01
ogra_: have you tried any nexus 7 phone? I'm thinking of buying LG NEXUS 4 E960 8GB (quad core 1.5 GHz), will Ubuntu on that be as fast as e.g. my 5 year old dual core laptop? With libreoffice, nbd server for ltsp server etc etc? :)
19:02
<ogra_>
there are no nexus7 phones :)
19:02* alkisg is looking forward to the day when he'll use a mobile phone as a server to demo LTSP in a classroom
19:02
<alkisg>
Sorry, nexus 5
19:02
4.7 inch, I think...
19:02
<ogra_>
but yeah, i have both, a nexus7 tablet and a nexus4 phone
19:03
<alkisg>
Would it be fast enough for me to vnc to it and use "real" apps on it?
19:03
<ogra_>
the n4 is an awesome phone .... kicks easily the iphones butt ...but its cheap and you get what you pay for ... the glass case is really really fragile
19:03
especially the back
19:04
<lykwydchykyn>
the modulename.disabled thing didn't do it; not sure if I'm doing it right. If I want to block the r8168 I'd put "r8168.disabled=1" in that file, right?
19:04
<ogra_>
its a quad core 1.5GHz device with 2G ram ...
19:05
so yeah, definitely enough to run LibreOffice and friends
19:05
<alkisg>
lykwydchykyn: you'd first copy pxelinux.cfg/default to 01-mac-address (lower case, separated with -)
19:05
And then change the kernel command line inside that
19:05
<ogra_>
dont forget that your diskspace is limited and unextendable though

ogra_: is it possible to dual boot android + ubuntu from the same internal storage?
19:09

19:10

probably with hacking, yeah
19:10
there are tools for that on the xda forum

though note that ubuntu doesnt really care for such a usecase ... some update might just overwrite your dual boot setup

(if you talk about ubuntu touch)
19:28
i havent booted my zatab in months
19:29
i looked into porting ubuntu touch to it ... but it isnt supporting cyanogenmod 10.1 yet so there is forward porting of android involved first
19:30
<alkisg>
I got very big lags with the 2-3 android roms I tried from the zareason site, making it almost unusable... I'd much prefer it with ubuntu, if the image there actually boots
19:31
(the stock rom had those lags too, they seem like it's having... disk reading problems?!)
19:31

19:34
surely would ... and A10 boards are cheaper than RPi if you order them in china
19:34

19:34
ogra_: you looked at cubieboard at all?
19:35
<ogra_>
only at the specs once, its nice
19:35
<vagrantc>
seems like those might make good thin clients, or maybe even ok fat clients
19:35
<ogra_>
(for the price)
19:35
<vagrantc>
right
19:36* vagrantc plans on picking up a cubieboard soonish
19:36

<kev_j>
if there are two lts.conf files (such as one in the chroot and one in the var/lib/tftpboot/*arch*/) and they have separate options (server=1.2.3.4 in one and ssh_override_port=1234 in the other) would it use both or just one?
21:18
also, this is for the raspberry pi when using vagrantc's raspbian setup.... I don't know if it would make a difference or not, but just in case
21:19
oh.. and if not, then which would it use?
21:21
<vagrantc>
it will attempt to download an lts.conf from the tftp dir, if it finds it, it'll use that one.
21:21
but, depending on how you configured dhcp, it may try the wrong tftp file
21:21
i.e. it might try tftp://server/ltsp/i386/lts.conf, for example
21:22
if you're just using NFS, i think it's easier to simply use the one in /opt/ltsp/armhf/etc/lts.conf
21:22
<kev_j>
really? I have had a few issues with that actually (I think)..
21:22
I am using nbd
21:23
and I have the lts.conf in /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/arch/ sym-linked to /srv/tftpboot/ltsp/arch/
21:24
and I deleted the one in the chroot
21:24
<vagrantc>
depending on your tftp server, it may not support symlinks
21:24
<kev_j>
yeah, I'm pretty sure it doesn't now that you mention it
21:24
so I should just leave the one in the /var/lib/ location?
21:24
<vagrantc>
in general, i prefer dnsmasq, and "ltsp-config dnsmasq" makes it fairly easy to set up
21:25
it can handle both dhcp and tftp pretty nicely.
21:25
<kev_j>
I use isc-dhcp-server because it's what I started with
21:26
<vagrantc>
sure, and if you're booting a lot of clients, isc-dhcp-server handles things a bit better
21:26
<kev_j>
and dnsmasq got in the way of a bind port a few times and I am/was too inexeperienced to fix it
21:27
so should I skip putting it on the rpi? (not in the chroot) or do I need it to tell it where to connect to?
21:28
<vagrantc>
sorry, i won't have much time till the weekend
21:29
seems like partial documentation is almost worse than no documentation :(
21:29
<kev_j>
heh, sorry, I actually figured out a lot of it, I think this is more my curiousity on ltsp in general
21:30
like I don't really know how it handles the lts.conf files very well and am just trying to understand it a little better
