<netdog>
I would like to run an LTSP environment in a call center,I have searched for tutorials on it and found *some* information on it. However, It was for Gentoo and the soft phones in use was Kphone. I would Like to run LTSP on Ubuntu with twinkle instead of Kphone. Is this possible?
03:39
<chowmeined>
anything is possible
03:44
what do you use for sound with ltsp?
03:51
<netdog>
well at this stage I am still planning. but I want to keep things light. So I am thinking about implementing LTSP to dish out a customised xfce desktop with twinkle as the soft phone. I am not sure at this stage what I will be using for sound. any Ideas or recomendations?
03:53
What is the default sound daemon LTSP uses for its thin clients?

10:32
i have one problem with ltsp client..
10:32
when try to login
10:32
with created user...
10:33
the screen flashing
10:33
for little time
10:33
<1 sec.
10:33
and reappear the login screennn
10:33
<ogra>
ThRiX, which distro ?
10:34
<ThRiX>
ubuntu 7.04
10:34
server
10:34
<ogra>
server ?
10:34
<ThRiX>
yes
10:34
<ogra>
but you installed a desktop to log in to ?
10:34
<ThRiX>
...
10:34
on the server
10:34
or chroot?
10:34
<ogra>
indeed
10:34
on the server
10:34
<ThRiX>
ex... ubuntu-desktop?
10:34
<ogra>
yep
10:34
<ThRiX>
uhm..
10:34
no
10:34
because
10:34
<ogra>
well
10:35
ltsp needs something to log in to :)
10:35
<ThRiX>
i don't want
10:35
gui into server...
10:35
i prefeer very fast server without gnome or another gui interfaces...
10:35
<ogra>
then you can use ltsp :)
10:35
<ThRiX>
ehm..yes
10:36
<ogra>
ltsp forwards desktop sessions from the server to the clients
10:36
<ThRiX>
ah ok
10:36
<ogra>
*cant
10:36
<ThRiX>
but is possible don't charge x session at start of server?
10:36
or not?
10:36
<ogra>
sure
10:36
remove gdm after you installed ubuntu desktop
10:36
<ThRiX>
and ltsp work?
10:37
<ogra>
so no x will start on the server
10:37
<ThRiX>
gdm?
10:37
what is?
10:37
<ogra>
the login manager thats used on the server
10:37
<ThRiX>
ok
10:37
<ogra>
if you uninstal it X wont start
10:37
<ThRiX>
only into server
10:37
<ogra>
ltsp uses its own login manager on the client side ... you dont need gdm anywhere
10:37
<ThRiX>
?
10:37
ok ok
10:37
perfect...
10:38
last questions...
10:38
i must install gnome
10:38
with ubuntu-desktop
10:38
ex. apt-get isntal ubuntu-desktop
10:38
...
10:38
sure?
10:39
<ogra>
yes
10:39
<ThRiX>
ok
10:39
<ogra>
the uninstall fdm or remove Sgdm from /etc/init.d/rc2.d/
10:39
*gdm
10:39
<ThRiX>
I proceed!
10:39
can you help me later
10:39
with ssh?
10:39
<ogra>
did you follow the QuickInstall guide ?
10:39
<ThRiX>
i want manage this server form my home...
10:40
yes
10:40
<ogra>
good
10:40
<ThRiX>
but is not present the guide for remote ssh
10:40
see port forwarding etc.
10:42
before finish the install of ubuntu-desktop
10:42
i must (re) type into terminal this command?
10:42
ltsp-build-client etc...
10:47
<ogra>
no
10:47
istalling it is enough
10:47
nothing extra required
11:08
<ThRiX>
ogra: is online?
11:08
can you help me with ssh configuration?

(into ubuntu guide have find, this way but don't find into client...)
11:59
System -> Administration -> Language Support
11:59
from menu!
12:00
can we help me?!
12:00
<ogra>
are you logged in as the admin user of the server ?
12:01
its only yvailable to users of the admin group i.e. sudo users
12:01
<ThRiX>
into client?
12:01
<ogra>
as you like
12:01
<ThRiX>
sorry
12:01
<ogra>
you need to be the admin user and log in to the desktop to be able to add languages
12:01matla has joined #ltsp
12:02
<ThRiX>
ok
12:02
<ogra>
normal desktop users are not allowed to install langage packages
12:02
<ThRiX>
but if i log with sudo user...
12:02
<ogra>
if you have the desired languages installed you can select the lang yo want in the login manager
12:02
<ThRiX>
the server how save my setup for another account/user?
12:02
already select!
12:02
<ogra>
well, the user you created during install is usually the admin user
12:03
<ThRiX>
but 1/2 is in english and 1/2 in italian
12:03
<ogra>
well, check if all language support packages are there
12:03
thats what the language selector you mentioned above does
12:03
<ThRiX>
ok but i must install language package from server...or client
12:03
<ogra>
you dont do *anything* with the client
12:04
its all on the server
12:04
<ThRiX>
ok
12:04
with chroot?
12:04
<ogra>
no, that would be the client
12:05
<ThRiX>
ok ok
12:05
before change language in all
12:05
client i'm find italian or another lang...
12:05
?
12:05
<ogra>
??
12:06
<ThRiX>
sorry
12:06
re...
12:06
before install language pack into server...
12:06
<ogra>
yes ?
12:06
<ThRiX>
after...
12:06
not before...
12:06
sorry
12:06
eheheh
12:06
afte install lang pack into server
12:06
i'm find into all client
12:06
<ogra>
right
12:07
<ThRiX>
my prefereed lang?
12:07
is right?
12:07
...
12:07
now
12:07
<ogra>
if you install the client with ltsp-build-client it will make the chroot default to the language yu selected for the server, in the login manager you can select any language that is installed on the server for your users session
12:08
<ThRiX>
ok ok
12:08
can you help me with last setup?
12:08
(very very thank's...)
12:09

<ThRiX>
..
12:12
<ogra>
you will need to know how your routers have to be configured
12:13
usually thats in the handbook
12:13
you need to forward port 22 on both f them
12:13
<ThRiX>
what router...
12:13
adsl or wireless?
12:13
uhm
12:13
i know how change this param.
12:13
<ogra>
but since thats different for every router you will need to consult your handbooks
12:13
<ThRiX>
but i don't know
12:14
<ogra>
read the manual )
12:14
<ThRiX>
...
12:14
<ogra>
if the router supports port forwarding it will be described in there
12:14
<ThRiX>
ok ok
12:14
ok but which
12:14
port i must insert?
12:14
<ogra>
as i said above, you need to forward port 22 on both of them
12:15
<ThRiX>
22? into adsl and wireless router?
12:15
for tcp or udp?
12:15
<ogra>
tcp
12:15
<ThRiX>
ok
12:16
into lan port i must insert 22
12:16
but into public?
12:16
port?
12:16
always 22?
12:16
(for adsl router!)
12:17
or in public can i insert random port
12:17
for example 5900!?

sbalneav: hi! I'm looking for a site with help on setting up edubuntu ltsp server using two nics - one to my firewall and on to Internet, the other nic going to a switch for clients
23:13
<sbalneav>
Edubuntu handbook should help you
23:13
Just add the seconds nick, assign it a static interface
23:13
If you stick to 192.168.0.254, things should "just work"
23:14
<wpgmb>
Do I need to be concerned with a dhcp config file for the clients?
23:14
<sbalneav>
Not if you use that IP address
23:26
<wpgmb>
k.. I'm confused. What do I use for the gateway? I've given eth0 a static IP of 192.168.0.2, so it's on the same subnet as the firewall. What do I assign as a gateway for eth1?
23:27
<sbalneav>
oh, you've got two subnets with 192.168.0
23:27
then make the terminal one 192.168.1.254
23:28
no gateway
23:28
and fix up your /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf
